How FD can fend off a hypothetical goon takeover (or even a real one)

The chap in question attempted to contact EG leadership through multiple methods and was consistently met with terse "get on TS" responses, and when he posted their private board, the hesitance regarding TS apparently offended the guy so deeply he went from civil to blanket statements involving us lying about our numbers, claiming we've been "nothing but issues from the start" and suggesting Barbie Love Mix as a more suitable game for our membership. Basically, the usual kind of crap we expect from people who mean Serious Business™. The KOS is openly stated.

Yeah, all this because somebody didn't want to get on TS.

Anyway, no skin off our collective noses.

Yeah see what you mean, it's a bit terse innit, there does seem to be a bit of a history prior to that exchange though?

With the teamspeak, it's far superior to text for organising stuff. Not necessarily a requirement but given the buggy nature of groups currently, CMDR messaging not getting through, not being able to reply, instancing going doolaly with CMDRs missing even though others can see them - having immediate communication I think is pretty much required at this point if you actually want to get anything done. It's not a big deal, I mean you can just log in switch your mic off and listen if need be. Not sure if I agree of not but I *can* understand a requirement of teamspeak (if it is actually required in EG I don't know?) for a group who wants to be able to organise itself effectively.

I understand the efficiency of voice comms, believe me, though usually things're too noisy around me for me to bother trying to pay attention to a talking (read: singing 80s hair metal) girlfriend, in-game sfx AND half a dozen people talking about bong hits. It just cracks me up that things went from "hi let's co-operate" to "rargh die" so quickly.

Goons in my experience even EVE were a good bunch.

One of our pilots invaded their newbie space in EVE and declared war on them lol. We had a good scrap with them and with the mercs they hired to deal with us. We've also fought on the same side and I've met a few Goons on a London pub meet. At least they were normal and liked a pint or two unlike some of the freaks you get playing online games.

There are muppets in every group same as there are really cool guys. People get bent out of shape over the Goons because they usually have good communities and bring the numbers.

My generalisation of the Goons would be that they are into the games they play and usually understand the mechanics fairly well and play games how they're supposed to be played and push the boundaries. Not often they whine about getting ganked or about a game in general.

I've seen a few or their newbies get roasted and we didn't get an ounce of smack talk out of them. Started to feel a little sorry for them after a while but eventually you get swarmed.

Huh, they actually did declare war on us. Eh, fair enough, might be interesting.

to be fair we just want to be fake spacemen too. and half the "goon" antics are just staving off boredom or they just sound like such a ridiculously stupid idea that it must be fun. As far as goonwars go, yeah have fun trying to identify a goon just flying around.

I think folks just take this all a bit far, its not like we take an active effort in ruining your optionally "multiplayer" game, hell most folks would be more than happy holding you hostage and making you sing a happy little song before we let you go as opposed to destroying your ship and cargo.

How's this thread still going? The first few posts already said everything about how wrong the OP was, the rest is essentially just wasting everyone's time.

Yeah, don't want to displace any of those quality new topics like fearmongering that ED is going on a monthly subscription and each station will have to be purchased in store in order to trade with in-game.

This thread is here to ally fears that Goonfleet is out to destroy you. So it is the official Goonfleet AMA thread and Embassy Cool Kids' Club.

Which reminds me, mods, please change this topic's title to 'Kermit Laphroaig, Goon Gentleman Adventurer AMA Super Happy Good Thread"

say we got 2000 goons online at once here in open play they could cause nuisence in a number of systems. Or find a random faction in the enviroment and attempt to get them to take over space. That said the influence system is broken. of course space is so big and solo mode is there as well so it would be just another factor in a large game world. The instance limits are another limiting factor, such goons are unlikley to be a factor, if they choose to abandon eve online and come here it could jsut be the thing the game needs, is there any solar systems called goon that anyone has found that could be interesting

Hmm let's see 2000 goons 400,000,000,000 systems so that's only 200,000,000 (two hundred million) systems for each of them to grief, I can see how this would present a problem. A lot of the mechanics of ED were purposefully made the way they are to stop big groups being able to exert influence on other players in game.

It's me, I'm griefing 200,000,000 (two hundred million) systems

I just hope they were better than they were in Planetside 2, they were turrable.

What was worse was after the soltech server merg I had the choice of the turrable goon NC zerg where I had one character, and Buzzwhatever turrable TS zerg where I had my other.

There are legitimate reasons for pirates to kill clean players. If they refuse to give up cargo, then you go for the kill run to teach them a lesson.

:p I don't think the word ,pirate, pirates, or piracy belong in a sentence alongside "legitimate"
There's nothing legal or legitimate about pirating, it's a living for sure, but to use call it legitimate?
You might as well call it "just", "rightious" .

Piracy = fun? A line I wouldn't disagree with, but I'd never call it a legitimate activity (nor would I smuggling)

Within the confines of the game world in Elite: Dangerous, pirating(and smuggling by extension), especially in an Anarchy system, is absolutely a legitimate activity. Don't force your lawful and moral shenanigans on me buddy.

On a side note, I'm going to do everything in my power to go to the home system of the Goons, LTT 700, and disrupt their activities. Word is, they are trying to boost the Federal factions there.

There was me thinking that the hypothetical goon takeover was an alien invasion by pan galactic mega beings... Disappointed now

We are indeed mega beings.

By that, I mean we are all fat.

Also, if by pan-galactic you mean our mothers basements, then we are indeed from there as well.
