U didnt really read my post did u ?

If its a server issue they can change the server code and apply a fix there - seems to be easier than a client side fix.

If it needs a patch it * could * be in 1.0.5 or later just to keep soda happy. the important fact is they are aware and working on getting it fixed at some point.

And i would guess micheal will get it done soon, otherwise players will get frustrated and it will continue to fester.

Just because you know what a bug is, doesn't mean the logic to fix it is easy to implement. Identification is a small starting step it what can be a long and complicated process. So bugs are an easy 1 line fix to a formula or decision tree, others can be long convoluted expansive decision trees. Then once you've found the problem and written a fix, it needs to be tested, which sometimes can be a quick check to make sure a number calculates correctly and at others can be running through an entire process to its final conclusion in order to check the results.

I would hazard that this is something along the lines of the later - something is not happening correctly, so they need to program it to happen, but then they have to run a bunch of iterations to check multiple input conditions vs results to confirm that it's fixed. And I would entirely expect that we'll probably be the ones testing it, as multiple players can run far more tests in a shorter time than a small QA team is able to.

In your comment you go from finding the issue to implementation without all the intervening headaches. Yes it's very easy to install the fix once you have it, the path from discovery to installation is rarely straight forward.

I know the reputation system is supposed to be a black box, fine adds mystery to the game.

But judging by the amount of comments in this post, does the "Digital Manual" not need some more detail? As it's fine if your reading this form and find this exact post, but if your not into using forums then I am sure there are people who feel amiss.

+1 times a million. From your mouth to FD's ears, I hope!

Speaking of, could you provide an answer to my question, when you get a chance, Michael? I believe it got lost in the fray...

It's all driven by influence, so completing missions for the minor faction and trading with them will increase their influence.

Michael

Yes, but what do we do if we have an extremely hard time finding any missions for said faction, and that faction owns no stations, either? Please, help me out here, Michael, I've been trying to figure out the answer to this for a very long time! I want to help restore proper, constitutional leadership to Sol and the Federation, but finding missions for the Sol Constitution Party is ridiculously hard. I know they have literally zero influence right now, but should it be this hard to even help them out, much less eventually help them capture a station and all that?

...And thanks again for all your help :)

sme fringe systems pand for example have this issue potentially, there are reputation missions where if u bring zyx item youre rep goes up ( those are the missions u need even if they are in the hostile factions station) u will still get rep with the faction u wanna support and can go from there.

This is quite common, and the lower your influence it seems the lesser the missions available which becomes a circular problem if you want to bring a faction from a very low point.

Might want to include links to tom hellar i think his name was another dev that posted back in 2013 al the hidden variables planned for the background sim, the 1 to 1000 rating for about 10 different factors that can affect a system - im sure its now more convoluted than that but u get the idea. So we can remind micheal of this when he responds to us

well its almost 7am reboot time, micheal what effect do player actions have upon the 1-1000 rating of various states ( economic, wealth, population, security and so forth) in the short term. And how does this relate to the status of various things in system

I imagine this is part of the black box and intricate details they don't want to discuss, and I don't blame them.

I can understand they may wish to discuss certain parts of the black box and not others its not a matter of assigning blame, but its micheals choice in the end as to what he discloses and what he doesnt as the head of the project.

Now if we are discussing some surface level type stuff in a generalised sense we may wish to refer back to the original design document and what FD have put in, what they may have planned to go in and what may be abandoned or far off into the future

Soda may want to include this in youre links https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=6305

It would appear quite a bit is in game arleady even if there are hidden bugs or bits that are only bare bones and not fully fleshed out

Micheal ok a general question these 1-1000 stats, is it possible for us to create change and effect this ( esp in quite fringe systems) on a daily basis say doing some trade and shifting the wealth modifier say from a modifier of 10-12 or something as a rough example. And does this affect things within the solar system ( amount of npcs, prices, missions, and things that arent directly related to system influence and station control) ie how many USS spawn, how many pirates versus sys auth. And stuff like that

I have a question. Why is FD against giving systems automatic physical changes? Surely you can add some sort of warning system and barriers to prevent players from glitching/bugging it when a system changes and they're there.

I think there is a large degree of automation in some aspects of the simualtion, for now the devs are maintaining a large degree of oversight over a lot of things, over time i think they might slowly automate some of these bits as they find balances etc. I see the galnet news events as a bit of a way of testing some things if they are happy with balance then they implement mroe AI modules around the background simulator. We recently got capital ships, perhaps some tweaks to the markets, bug hutning - bug hunting is probably a big part, we have assinatin missions to come, colony expansion, station upgrades, government changes. More status/events that can affect a system. Perhaps more trade goods. Development indexes and doing missions and content that way. give the devs time the bits that work, seem to work ok. More new bits coming will take months or a year is my guess.

If they have no influence then they don't have the resources to generate missions. It's something we can review.
