Er, in my line of work, testers are paid. I was considering donating some of my time to help test new versions, but this just baffled me...

I... how do you even...

Oh please. it is common practice in the gaming industry that you have to pay to get beta access to basically everything. Hell, i once sold a Betakey for an upcoming MMO for more than 150 Euros.

Oh wow. OK. Looking for victims, it seems. I remember beta testing games; I obviously didn't have to pay anything, that would be absurd. No matter how I look at it, this seems like an extremely shady practice. I'm baffled that they are doing something like this. Who in his right mind...

I was gonna volunteer to help them, but no thanks. That's seriously messed up.

I'm opening a new business btw, looking for employees. You can work for me if you pay me 15 bucks an hour.

Really REALLY not liking this idea. Why should we have to PAY you to HELP you? I know of no other game that does this. You limit the number of people that can test things, you divide your playerbase and not to mention, you just plain old screw your customers.

Seriously, this isn't like early access. Game is out. This is seriously, deeply concerning and makes me question supporting you and any future endeavors in the future.

We also paid extra money to be a part of the Alpha/Beta in the first place, so from my perspective it's nice to automatically have access to future feature testing. You only pay if you want to be "upgraded" to beta level. Although I'm hoping they simply introduce a "beta pass" to let non-backers upgrade their accounts; and I would think the price would be fairly low.

Thanks for your effort and information. Any chance of having passengers before 2016? Or fixing political simulation system?

You're obviously not familiar with common Kickstarter reward tiers?
Seriously, I see this argument a lot and it makes no sense to me. If testing a game is so horrible and tedious that in fact, you should be paid for it, then why are people complaining about having to pay? If it was such a horrible job, nobody would care?
The only reason you are complaining is because you actually want to test the thing. If you want to test it then that has value to you. Just as it had value to the original KS backers who incidentally would be being shafted if this was just granted gratis to anybody who wants it now. Also incidentally without KS there would be no game at all.

I'm pretty sure they announced they had 140K Beta+ users in interviews towards the tail end of the Beta. Why on earth do you think they'd consider paying you (or anyone else) to join what is already a massive group of testers? Do you really believe that your input is so much more valuable than that of those who already paid extra in order to gain beta access?

They're merely offering a way for people who are not part of the Betas to test the features ahead of general release. If you don't want to pay extra then don't, nobody is going to miss your input.

I'm the exception it seems - I'm more than happy to pay for beta access.

I assume that it comes with the other beta benefits - 25% off insurance, free eagle for new starts, etc?

As long as the price is close to the difference between the release and the beta versions (~£10?) I don't have a problem with this.

You honestly see no problem with this? I want to help them, a lot of people want to help them, they should want a LOT of people to help them, but before they can help them, they have to give them additional money?

W.T.F.?

Seriously.. NO OTHER company does this because it is in VERY bad taste. Every MMO and even just multiplayer games (BF4 for example) has a PTR (Public Test Realm) that is free to all gamers to download and try out the new content, give feedback, bug reports, etc.

I undertand your point but Frontier is doing it differently. I bought into the alpha because i wanted the earliest access possible and because i wanted to test. I knew this was going to cost a premium and I chose to do it. This is a OPTION that you do not have to exerise you wont have to wait since they plan on releasing to prod after a week of testing.

If your issue is just paying to get early access remember many(not all) of the MMO's you mention charge a monthly subscription fee. This game was/is crowdsourced has NO subscription fee. They have to make their money somewhere so I see no issue with this issue as I want them to continue development. Again You have the option of paying or waiting. your choice.

Good to know the estimated release dates of those updates. :)

When will the factions be more fleshed out and a Codex about the Elite universe? Will artwork be added to Galnet news?
