News Elite: Dangerous Composer Announced

Having watched the video to death I've finally taken time to concentrate on the music and it is impressive. Solid choice in composer for sure.

I do wonder how he is going to make the music Elite rather than Star wars if you know what I mean.. its gotta be hard to create something unique but that fits with the genre and be the Elite universe.

If only the guy had played Elite growing up.. That said the sound and music are usually taken for granted, perhaps because it was done so well I could concentrate fully on what was going on.

It was seamless in fairness..

Right on!

Ok it was Awesome, sorry I'm too tired at the moment to do enthusiasm

Now is it just me being paranoid or cynical or to be honest I'm not really sure:S:p but with there being a contest to select the composer and such, the visuals must have been around for quite some time, probably at least as far back as first cockpit pictures which look like they could be stills from the video. Does make you wonder what the current state of play is;)

Fantastic video, almost overwhelming. :D

I think you made a good pick with the composer.
I just hope that the music collecting over time will be as epic wide in range like the gameplay is supposed to be.

The only thing which let me ponder about the video after watching it multiple times is about a scene, not the music...
As much such close passes are mind blowing to watch, there's a big difference between enjoying such close quarter flying and actually pulling it off without collecting every steel beam and smacking into every second passing ship.
I know this video was mainly just to impress us and hell, it did that very well :)

I am just curious if the game will offer any kind of assistance of some sort if fights should ever get that congested or if they will rely on sheer luck as skill will just save your butt to some degree.
Don't get me wrong, I love the video, just curious how to make that work in game without a casual list which reads like that:

Ships damaged 78%
Ships destroyed by enemy fire 27%
Ships destroyed by friendly fire 7%
Ship lost by high-speed collisions 66%

I guess the best suggestion is simply not to fly like those manics in the video as there are easier ways of suicide. :D

From about 1:18 until 1:28 in that video, the little accenting trill sounded pure Elite as they cut through the Federal Battlecruiser in pursuit. Brilliant video, crisp and clean. Loved it. And good music too, as it seems most agree.

The thing I would say on the choice of composer is that this probably isn't the type of material (hi-octane action) I would choose to principally base the evaluation on. Hopefully there were other pieces considered because for me, Elite's atmosphere should be linked first and foremost to the quiet times between action, from departures and homecomings to trailblazing the farthest corners of the galaxy.

How did you get the composers interested in the first place? Did you approach them or did you advertise?

I have no idea how you would procure this sort of thing. I'm only used to dealing with buildings which is a bit different!

It was put out in the key game music community - sorry I don't know the exact site!

Fantastic!

Had to post to say how much I absolutely loved this video, it gave me the shivers :) As soon as the camera panned to the main window I felt an instant connection to the same feelings I got playing when I was kid, thank you!

I loved the whole sequence, as subtle as it sounds, one of my favourite parts (and there are many!) was when your ship rapidly slowed to come to a halt. There was that slight jerk forward at the end, you could really feel it an I felt myself moving forward a little bit in my chair with it, that was amazing! Made me think about one of those little bobbing Hawaiian dancers on the dash moving back a little bit at the last second with the momentum, awesome realism.

I have to say as well, I love the fact that this game is British. It takes me back to the bedroom coding years when we put out truly *original* games straight from people's imaginations and creativity without any interference from money obsessed publishers, *sniff*. So nice to see that spirit still lives on, long live democratic crowdfunding!

Excellent.

What I really like is the stylishness, it seems to be adhering very well to some of the concept art we saw early on, gives the Elite universe a cohesiveness and feel of its own.

I love the fonts, colour palette, the neon luminescence of some of the lighting. This is going to look very unique and instantly recognisable.

The action sequence itself is much better than I would have expected. The attention to detail is phenomenal at this stage of development, even given the staged and post-processed nature of the material. It gives even more confidence that Frontier have a properly planned and integrated product that they can deliver close to the planned schedule.

Happy bunny here, but gonna need a bigger computer........

Does anyone know where you can download a file of the clip rather than streaming in YouTube?

Get "Video Download Helper", fantastic app for firefox you can download pretty much any streamed video, and once it starts to download, even start to stream it before it finishes downloading ... nice :)

There isn't much to add to what has already been said here.

Congratulations Frontier for appointing a talented composer. Thank you Erasmus for a fine piece of musical accompaniment to a stunning trailer. I look forward to hearing more of your work from what promises to be an excellent soundtrack in the near future. Glad I pledged for the CD now.

I do hope this trailer goes viral and brings in the additional support Elite Dangerous deserves. :)

The ship is in hyperspace and already heading there, or at least near there.

Why did the fed ship sit there and take it, and not bring the point defense weapons to bear on the other ship? what ever killed the first ship could have done damage to the other one.

Very pretty video.

Did no one else see this?

Those weapons where offline for some reason, and they needed time to fix them, which they didn't get because of continuous Imp onslaught. Sidewinders helped get some breathing room, so they managed to get them in order and the rest was history.

Awesome movie, one of finest sci-fi (despite it's controversy about religion). And yeah, that jump in ED trailer remind me of hyperspace travel in Contact. It's amazing how some stars can look like galaxies from certain point of views.
