awesome video, but if I can give an advice: more stars in the background.

Space is a lot of nothingness...... Additionally, although on earth we can see with the naked eye up to Mag 6 (or thereabouts) we won't be able to see much more than another 10/20% more stars than we can on earth due to the limits of human perception... (There's a thread elsewhere about all this so I won't labour the point)

have you ever seen a starry night in a good location like an observatory?
I do.

I do.

I have... luckily.... The Milky Way is awesome when you can see it properly, but my point does still stand there is a limit to what can be seen even 'up there' especially with the naked eye which is what I was referring to.

I forgot what the size in numbers of the known explored space in the ED universe but I know it was very, very small in comparison to our whole galaxy.
As much as I love the video, seeing at the beginning the ship accelerating for the jump and seeing the galaxy coming closer, a LOT closer then the known space is was a bit odd to me.
But hey, a movie like this in the very early state (pre-alpha) is supposed to drop jaws and attract more people and it did that extremely well.
But that optical effect of the galaxy coming that close in the jump sequence and the extreme tight close quarter fight sequence through the federation cruiser looked very impressive but would end probably in over 90% of the cases in collisions between ships or smashing into the cruiser itself.

Still, I am looking sooo forward playing the game despite those artictic freedoms for the sake of jaw dropping ;) Well done dev team :D

That was actually star system, not galaxy. Stars look like that if they have significant cloud of dust and rock going around them. Our Sol system was just like that some time ago.

Excellent work! The music is perfect and I'd love to hear more of it soon! Thanks for an awesome video!

Now that you said it and I watched it again I see it myself. I guess I was just too tired and overwhelemd by the impressions the video made on me.
I guess I maybe expected also some older start like ours and not this one which looks still pretty young with all that gas and dust near the center.
Makes sense.
Thanks for the feedback.

I still bet hat most players would smack their ships into the fed cruiser if they try that fly through at that speed ;)

@Bearhug67

I thought it was the Milky Way too. It looked like a galaxy from a distance but pausing the video and looking at the detail, there is a severe lack of stars in there. The gas and dust is probably the left overs from the accretion disk when the system formed.

This is a really nice addition to the game because when you go to a system you just assume it is going to be a mature system. Its a nice surprise.

Wouldn't the brightness of the star out shone the rest of the galaxy? You know, made everything else dimmer? I need some coffee...

Brian :)

Yes, that makes sense because usually the closest light source overwhelms everything else. A good example of this are the photo's of the moon landings. The pictures show the suns light (closest light source) hitting the surface of the moon which makes it really bright. The result is that you cannot see any stars in the background at all. They are overwhelmed by the bright light. The lack of stars in the background is one reason why the conspiracy theorists think that the moon landings were faked. (idiots!)

Anyway, you will notice that when speeding towards that star with the gas around it, you will notice many stars everywhere else. We know they are stars because they are bright, sharp individual objects. Galaxies are usually blurry things. That suggests that the current position of the ship in the video is inside a galaxy. We also know that the game is set in one galaxy alone (our Milky Way) so the object we are moving towards is a star.

[EDIT]

Having just watched the video again (for the 15th time), I've noticed something really strange. When the ship moves towards the assumed star with gas around it, there are no static stars at all. There are plenty wizzing past the ship (could be particles though) but you would normally see many static stars too that would gradually become fainter the nearer you get to the object star. I looked and looked but couldn't see any. Its a really strange system!

I spose they would be the usual "orientation particles" Which I find quite handy in spacey games.

Brian :)

Yes, you could be right there. They do give a sense of speed and direction.
I'm not going to study the video any more because the more I do, the stuff that I find just raises more questions.

In all honesty, the video's purpose is to show off the excellent music and it does a fantastic job. I don't think we should read too much into the visual detail of the film footage at this stage.

Just amazing...

Amazing. I already watched it for ....I actually lost count.... Eagerly waiting for the alpha, beta and final game. I just can't wait!!! Just amazing. This clip took me back to the 80's when i used to imagine such scenes as i looked at a wire frame graphics filled screen on my BBC Model B. Give us more of these mouth watering clips!!!... and thank you!!! BTW... loved the track as well!!!

I showed this to my daughters last night.

Their reactions:

The youngest. 11 years, likes fashion and make up:
Cool.

The oldest. 16 years, like Dr Who, plays World of Tanks and takes part in school sponsored robot building competitions:
Cooooool!

Me to youngest: what do you mean Cool? ITS ABSOULTELY AMAZING!
