Having Oddball and world of tanks come up in the same thread begs the question... Oddball, have you played it? Awesome game!

Hi M Pat.

No sorry, I don't play games very much apart from Wings Of Prey now and then. I've nearly finished designing a game for the Amiga though. Nothing special really, just an old coin-op conversion that I did during the school holidays.

woof woof! - That's my other dog impression.

I showed this to my daughters last night.

Their reactions:

The youngest. 11 years, likes fashion and make up:
Cool.

The oldest. 16 years, like Dr Who, plays World of Tanks and takes part in school sponsored robot building competitions:
Cooooool!

Me to youngest: what do you mean Cool? ITS ABOSULTELY AMAZING!
So you're saying we need to broaden appeal by including more fashion and makeup?

Noted.

Yes... put in some makeup and barbie commercials ingame, maybe even pink ships, im sure this will appeal more to the young and more fashionable fans amongst us :D

So long as you draw the line there and don't start thinking about plastering Justin Bieber or One Direction's faces all over the place... (a friend of mine is related to Harry Styles.... We all have at least one Claim to Shame surely?)

Well well well, I go on holiday and what happens?

This looks a little bit awesome.

Great job with the music too, especially the hint of origins in the middle section.

One thought that occurred to me that no-one picked up on is that the comms chatter sounded very similar to Call of Duty. Maybe it's the accent.

Hats off to all involved.

Is the TARDIS in the Mix?

My apologies, I'm just asking.
Professionally, I try to pull speech out of air conditioner noise several times a week, I notice these things.

the extended TARDIS materialize. a second before the segment I hear.

And the in system jump engine, I guess. :20 to :28

something like it is in there. kinda cheap if it is the system warp drive.

Will our ships be able to have going to be traveled/ing in time then?

(Did I get all the right tenses in there?)

Brian :)

For me the best bit is the first 20 seconds, the faster than light travel. I hope and pray that it's like that in the game, the feeling of speed and the subtle motion combined with the vastness of space... awesome stuff guys.

I'm gonna need a bigger processor!

Before I write anything else I just want to once again say that the latest video was mindblowing and I have lost count of how many times I've seen it by now!!

But... ;)

I really hope that FD "soon" starts to show of other aspects of the game because so far what we have seen is pretty much space combat. As we all know the latest video was awesome, but what excited me the most was the first scene when we started to get the sense of scale that this game will have. Every single video so far have basically shown ships shooting at each other in space:

Ships shooting at each other among asteroids.
Ships shooting at each other when attacking a convoy.
Ships shooting at a scavenger.
Ships shooting at another convoy showing of the damage model.
Ships shooting at capital ships.

As the developers themself have stated on this forum, combat is certainly an important part of the game, but is not any more important than the other types of gameplay that will be available. We who know the history of this game will know about this, but new players will not. All they have seen so far is more or less a pure space combat game, which IMO is heavily misrepresenting what this game is about.

I hope that FD later on dares to show of the "slower" and beautiful aspects of the game. I want to see a "2001 docking sequence" where the ships enter these huge magnificent stations. I want them to take us on a "tour of the galaxy" and show of how beautiful it is. Something in the same style like this video from Space Engine.

I get that showing of combat is easier right now considering that many of the other aspects of the game isn't at a level of development where it actually can be shown right now, but I just wanted to get it out there anyway. :)

You've doomed any chance of getting your request actioned by using the word 'soon'... bad move, it only encourages them ;)

You have a valid point although remember that a good chunk of discussion has already gone on in the DDF relating to trading, slaves and other non-combat related things. I suspect that most of these things will turn up later on in development as the game engine and dynamics of game-play are more tricky to develop and need to be dealt with before the less complex (in terms of development) portions of the game.

You think!?!?! :p

That's pretty much what I said, was it not? I just wanted to get it of my chest. ;)

BTW, the video just passed 100.000 views! Nice!

The only video from FD that has more views is the asteroid dogfight and I have a feeling it won't be able to hold on to that position much longer. :D

I agree with the Tinman, it's not all about combat...I do hope. Maybe I'm getting old and soft but I've been playing too many war-games, shooters and whatnot. When I think about it, surely 80-90% of all my gaming has been violent.
Oh dear, I think I will become a space tourist in this game...mostly. To quote Charles Bronson: "I'm not a man of violence...anymore". Or who am I kidding :D No, what I mean is that I hope you can pursue a somewhat peaceful career (or moments) in Elite too, and for it still to be fun.
