Players losing it all and quitting - sure, their fault but not good for the game.

It's a computer game. As far as I am aware, ever since I've played games, sometimes you have to start again.

There *nothing* the devs can do to appease people like this. If they did the game wouldn't be worth playing. It's like buying a Rubik's cube all in one colour so the little darlings can never fail solving it.

Not sure I see what the problem is. Play the game. If you mess up start again. Am I missing something?

Yep.....

This kind of nonsense is nothing more then a reason why the game will fail in the end. At a minimum we need "Cargo insurance".

That depends on the point of view. I see your position as "nonsense" and can assure you not everything which "does not make sense to you" will "fail in the end".
What may happen is, that people with your view of the game will eventually leave it if they don't get what they demand. And guess what ? There will be still enough players left who have fun with the current implementation to make it an entertaining game. IMO you greatly overestimate the importance of your "player type" for this game. This is no "PvP only" game like all the others on the market, there are plenty of players who do not see a problem with the current insurance (as you can see when reading the threads carefully).
So you can tell yourself that the game will fail because of this if that helps you, but I clearly doubt that you are correct.

But I am quite sure, that they will be some kind of cargo insurance in the future since there is a label for it in the status screen on the system panel. So it is very likely that FD think of it as a good idea.

It's the entitlement crowd.

I suppose it all depends on whether you believe people genuinely will never play the game again. When people
Lose everything either by misadventure or stupidity, no doubt it pees them off, but I suspect they all come back a week later for another stab at it. I wouldn't read too much into people's first reaction when they are angry or frustrated.

Use the Station voice , " This is your mother you don't have your socks on to go outside and play" whoops I mean To the Ship on launch pad "whatever" you have no insurance"

erm us? thought I was talking to you. Is there more then one of you?
I have no idea what your talking about.. must be my age.
Where did I say I don't agree with you anyway , my point is that I was not talking to you in the first place but for some reason you put it upon yourself to give me your view which includes a statement to the credibility on what I am saying just because you didn't agree with, and then you go and ask others to agree with you , why? - you not able to manage a conversation on your own?

If you want to have a discussion with me - go for it but don't assume your ideas are better than mine just because you don't agree.
All I did is provide some harmless feedback like many others have and if other people don't agree that's absolutely fine with me but that does not give you the right to start talking down to people as if your point of view is superior , its not you have your views and I have mine. get over it.

Wow not entirely sure how your business succeeds with you not being able to keep clear who you are talking to. You may want to check back on your posts because actually your response was to someone else and I decided to let that other person know they weren't alone. I'm in my forties so I'm betting the age difference isn't as great as you'd like to assume. If the age is that much greater perhaps you should start taking Centrum Silver and eating more fish. ;)

My ideas are better because they are flexible. You're the inflexible one. Almost...stubborn.

Can't wait for next blase response "blah blah blah, people should just stop being idiots, growl go away and let me play single player"

For me the real ironic thing here is I was surprised how weak the death penalty is in this game, not the other way around.

5% rebuy cost? Oh noes!

So many people here would rather see this game dwindle down in population with "punishing actions" vs try to keep the game growing. WoW removed the punishing action of corpse running that EQ had and I would say that worked out really well for Blizzard and not so well for EQ. I forget though that everyone here wanted this game to be single-player instead so having a small pop would make it better for them.

I don't equate holding people's hands with having an extra reminder saying, "You have insufficient funds for insurance." Possibly better if there was a training mission "How Insurance Works" that put you in a python, have a notification that told you to look at your current funds of 20K, then another to look at your rebuy cost. Then told you to undock despite having a "WANTED" status and have a security ship immediately scan you and you get destroyed. You succeed the mission by choosing to give up the Python and be put back in your sidewinder.

Personally I liked seeing commanders flying around. Guess I'm a minority.
Personally I want less stupid and careless players flying around. If you are too inept to heed the warning already established (pressing 4 on the default setup clearly shows your status and rebuy cost), then you should have to face the consequences.

But that's just my take. Play smart, play longer. Play like some careless fool and you will face the consequences. There are no penalties, only consequences.

The most dangerous thing about ED is sitting too long & restarting after death ( AH! insurance ) or been foolish ( what's insurance doh!) and allowing DARWINISM to take it's course

REMEMBER the two words ELITE ....&.... DANGEROUS at the moment its more sheep & mothering

EDIT a side note the more you DIE , the higher your insurance is next time around ,, now that would be great !! ,, thinkers in space ,

I don't disagree with insurance or the cap on loans. However, it would be nice if the insurance would save your various ships that are pending payment. So like if you blew an Anaconda and didn't have enough to rebuy, you could pick the loaner Sidewinder to work your way back to your Anaconda's rebuy price. This way you are still penalized significantly by having to work your way back up to several million, but don't have to start from scratch and grind out the several hundred million.

And have the insurance "store" 2 ships so you can rebuy the one you're using to work up to the big rebuy, if you blow that one.

I disagree. It's great for the game. The average intelligence of the remainder will be higher. Think of it as evolution in action.

It appears I'm not the only one that feels this way.

Have some rep for this.

Late to the party, been away for a few days...

Elite Dangerous is cruel, it lives up to it's name, as you really can loose months' work in but one careless moment if you're not careful.
Things like lag and bugs doesn't help. There are good points made here on either "side"
.
I admit danger and concequence makes victories and achievements ingame feel all the more worth-while.
Still, the original poster has a -very- good point when fearing the game loosing Players permanently.
Arguments like "It's their fault, good riddance to them" and similar sound awfully elitist and lacking understanding.
.
No game benefits from loosing players, and potential investors in more ingame goodies / merchandise / potential expansions.
I think this is a good and important topic, one I'm happy was raised, and one that really should be explored.
I don't have the answers either, but I do imagine something should be done if the game is (or really does start to) bleed(ing) Players.

Customer: "Hi I need a loan to buy insurance for my spaceship, I need 190,000"
Loan Company: "No problem sir, at current rates our fee will be 20,000 of that, so a good day for us!"
Customer: "Oh, actually, can you make that 220,000 please? I need to insure an expensive module and as you say, you'll make even more mon..."
Loan Company: "NO WAY SIR GET OUT AND DO NOT COME BACK!"

Hi folks,

Over and over again we see players in the facebook group and here coming on to say that for whatever reason they we operating without the rebuy funds, something happened and whammo... back to square one. Most seem to quit thereafter.

Now it's very easy to take the lofy moral ground and say that it's their fault for taking the risk they did. But the long and short of it is, it's not good for the game. This game is designed for humans and we have to consider how they are, not how they should be.

If everyone was given a spaceship tomorrow, not everyone would survive in space. I have no problem with there being a certain level of preparation required to succeed. We have all suffered our bad beats and learned from them (or not). The game shouldn't be dumbed down to please the lowest common denominator. Where does that leave the rest of us?

Angry, space dwelling reavers, thats where!

The more difficulty and harsh reality brought to this game the more immersive it feels to me, making me invest into it and bring my friends to it. If the difficulty becomes trivial, they lose me. The feeling of immersion comes from that sense of risk.

My brother recently upgraded from his Python to a Type 9 and didn't leave enough money for insurance. I tore his ear off chewing him out over it. He should know better but it turns out Greed can get a powerful hold over people, causing them to do irrational things. I consider most bad beat stories to be attributed to greed - wanting that next ship when you can't afford it.

True , I came to this game from other space simulation like Orbiter , now that's HARD, and totally unforgiving , The players who remain after the 1st year, will know how to fly safe, the rest will go back to WOW COD or gardening. For me I want ED to be more dangerous. Each time I take off I want to be terrified ,of the big black expanse & what it may throw at me next

The problem is though (and please keep in mind I love this game) is that it pretty much is dumbed down already, it's not a complex game at all and it's so far removed from being Dangerous it isn't even funny.
What it is instead is cumbersome, inconvenient and obtuse.

I don't even want anything changed but lets not kid ourselves here.
