There already is a 15 second logout timeout.

This is not enough, it can take more than 15 seconds to deplete the shields alone on a larger ship.
What should happen is that if you logout the the game should take control of your ship and treat it as an NPC, If you try to log back on you should have to wait/watch whilst the combat unfolds before you can get control of your ship back again.
This subject had a thorough floggin' already. There's no need to kick the carcass any more. Try a search and get in that conversation. There's many opinions for you to peruse there.
Combat logging is the natural extension of random Interdictions by PK's. I don;t know why people feel entitled to pop someone. If they are so chicken, just write them off and move on. Fairness isn't a given in a Cutthroat Galaxy. You can't decide to grant a kill to anyone without causing more problems than Logging is. Simply... get over it.

This one? https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=101379 I mentioned that one because it's a few threads below this one. The OP clearly wanted a poll to decide on his idea though. He's just misunderstood and is entitled to his entitlements.
FD cannot claim to include multiplayer piracy or bounty hunting while this is possible. The logging timer only needs to apply to PvP, and the odds of someone legitimately disconnecting during a PvP encounter is very low.
I'm sorry but if this is intended to remain a possibility, then there might as well be no PvP at all, as in players cannot damage other players. It would suck, but atleast FD would be making an actual decision about it.

What happens during a chess tournament when one player decides he is too sick to finish a game? Well the game is on a timer, so to put it off until later would be unfair to the other player. Do they stop the game and start over? No, he forfeits, I.E. he loses.
These comments are exactly like the Rage Quitters who go off when they feel slighted. Get a grip, and play on.
It's still silly. Just working up the natives to try and coerce FD into giving them the carrot straight away. I've said it many times.... The Galaxy Doesn't Care, and neither should FD.

PvP is part of the game certainly, but it in not 'The' game. Get over it. They are cowards, and this is a game. Play on, making a scene over this stuff is childish. There is no promise you get to pop anyone you can Interdict. You just have to buck up and play on. This is silliness.
FD claims to have an open world where you can do what you like, including PvP, but not exclusive to PvP. I have seen no promises to make the PK happy. In fact, the Boss has said that he wants the game mechanics to punish player killers, well at least discourage it. What does that tell you? PvP guys are the most whiny, and foolish crowd I come across in my playing experience. PvP bring out the worst in people, and brings in the worst of the people. You take it as a right to pop a simple players ship, and them you wonder why they avoid the whole thing. If you want competitive PvP, attack other PvPer's. When you think you Deserve something, take a step back and have a fresh look. It'll do you some good.

I am thoroughly convinced that both of you are against a timer because both of you like to log off during combat.
Did you not notice that the poll is against people who rage quit by pulling their connection or closing elite when they're losing?

Trying to maintain a moral stance in favour of an exploit is ludicrous. If you are against a timer, then admit that you do log off, otherwise this really doesn't effect "you" at all.
