Thanks for all the fish

and it stays as said before many times, if you cant afford to lose the ship dont fly it :)

oh and 42 and an extra-large towel will get you anywhere in the galaxy *grin*

Honestly restarting in a sidy isnt that bad, ive done the Clear save start over thing a few times just cause im kinda OCD, sitting in a python now and knowing its getting nerfred soon whats the point, actually thinking of clearing save again even tho i have 90 mill assets and 10 mill in the bank.

P.S how the heck do you hit a nav beacon? i mean space is huge HHHUUUGGEEE.

Well I didn't think this would happen, or rather realize it could...

I've been playing since release. Had a bunch of time off work and managed to get a Clipper fairly tricked out. 2.1M re-buy cost. Been enjoying myself. Tonight I was on my way to drop off a cargo hold full of Palladium and had a quest to kill two pirates. I had about 3 million wrapped up in the palladium. So, as you can maybe imagine, against better judgement, i dropped into a nav point to smash two pirates. Pirates smashed, I was about to fire up the drive to head off and deliver my goods, when I hit what I can only assume was the nav beacon. It wasn't a ship. It looked very small in the single frame i witnessed before hitting it. Anyway, my ship was instantly destroyed. Clipper. 1.6million dollar c6 shied. 1.something million dollar power distro. Instantly destroyed.

So it seems I've lost everything. The screen I'm left at tells me the max loan available is 200k, and if I like I can have a free Sidewinder. I'm more sad about this than anything, but I can't accept losing the last month of progress. Enjoy the game for me. Happy hunting.

ciao for now

I have some bug with my ship or account now.
When something scrach me my ship explode. This happened a 3 times in this week. Everytime for my L9 with full cargo of slaves - about 3 x 12 mlns...
I flew slow, with 4 pips, with 100% good ship and slow flying asp make me into dust. On next two days L7....
I ticketed it, my coleague have this bug too and they fixed it.

But one thing - never never never fly without insurance. Too buggy here.

spiderman meme.jpg Oh dear...

Like I said in the other thread, FD needs to implement a toggled in-game warning about not having enough insurance coverage. This is happening way too often.

I keep seeing people mentioning Insurance coverage... Is there actually an ingame way to buy more??? I have Founder's insurance but it still only gives a 200k max loan if your ship is destroyed; or does this just mean that people should never fly without having enough extra credits to cover for the inevitable mishap. I see something mentioning Cargo Insurance in the Stats screen but have yet to find a way to actually buy it. I was in an Asp first time flying it had a cargo hold full of goods and upgraded 2 items on my asp and bought a couple of extra weapons, made my first jump to a new station, reached "destination" dropped from supercruise, boosted toward station (standard practice for me), deployed landing gear (also standard practice for me), requested permission to land ... . BOOM ship explodes, still 4k out no ships anywhere around me, full shields, no hull damage, no issues what-so-ever, this apparently is a known bug though and they are looking into it I have since been compensated for it. So if there is anywhere to buy "Extra" insurance somewhere share the secret! If you just need keep a "nest egg" as it were then please stop using the word "insurance".

I have an 84t asp with about 600k insurance and 20 m in the bank. Which mean i can afford to lose a typical trading load of about 1m and die about 12 times. And i still get nervous. And i want to get a T7 but i intend to wait for a while... Cakl me mr cautious

Thats....just being silly...your asp can carry 120 tons easily, which is vastly eclipsed by the 216 the L7 can easily carry.....you are delaying your credit earning potential by umm.....a lot...a lot a lot. Rebuy cost on my fully kitted trading L7 is 840k.

no, no way to buy extra insurance...no way to buy cargo insurance.

Your founders insurance is just making your rebuy cost a lot less then anyone who isnt a founder...i believe its 25% less plus your founders benefit of cheaper ships and easy systems from shinrarta.

Sorry no extra insurance.

However founders insurance makes a nice difference to the amount of credits you can save your ass with. Founders insurance is not really about saving credits, but more lessening the risk of not having enough credits on hand to pay out the insurance when accidents happen. That's the real benefit of founders insurance.

But really, the insurance system is not cleverly thought out. It's almost like it's a bug that the game only asks you to pay for it if you blow it up. IMO they should just change it to work like a normal insurance: You choose to pay in advance the minimum costs of the insurance so you have coverage if an accident happen. Or you choose not to pay in advance, because you are badass. Or don't got the credits.

Not here to tell OP what he now knows. Just want to say, I am very surprised you managed to get to the clipper without a few deaths.

Before I got this game, I watched quite a bit of youtube videos, I learned many things, one of them being insurance. The first time I got a brand-new Asp I rammed it in a station whilst trading without insurance. I find it surprising how so many people JUST get the full idea of insurance almost exclusively in the Asp. In fact I almost lost the 2nd Asp if I didn't sell components off just before a mission.

I don't really have much to say to OP, it would seem that you were unfortunate to not ram your asp when you has one, instead, you dodged the Asp and rammed the clipper, so right place wrong time. After losing that much I can only hope you will come back to ED, but in the meantime a nice break should help.

Almost forgot, the nav beacon should have been highlighted like a target in white brackets, like a container of something. Also the prox alarm should have gone off, were you boosting? Usually I am just able to dodge it after noticing it.

What we need is a system where you can go back to a previous state in the game just prior to when you die. The game could automatically remember what condition you, your ship and finances were at a given time, say leaving a space station. Perhaps we could call it 'a save', and to go back after you die could be called a 'reload'
I'll put a ticket in.

Thing is about this if you worked you way up slowly you would know about insurance. (I know n i played 3 days)

If you dont know about it you are still learning so how do you have million credits ships?

That said i feel sorry for you but see it as a fun challenge. You learnt and now use your skill to get another ship. This time check insurance.

I knew about insurance before I bought the game. It didn't stop me from losing my brand new Asp. And I even crashed a few ships before so I very well knew of insurance.

Either the Asp is cursed for the first buy or I'd say it is just easy to underestimate insurance, no matter how many big arrows point otherwise.

The problem isn't that we run without insurance, the problem is despite knowing of the consequences (or rarely, not knowing), we seem to be surprised when it actually happens (losing a ship permanently).

What I picked up from this thread is the objective part about nav beacons causing disproportionate damage (rather than the discussion about whether insurance is adequately communicated, and checked-for whenever cash is spent, which has been mentioned elsewhere (link) ).

That's a good idea. I know some game/physics APIs would have trouble with a small point suddenly landing in the middle of an object travelling at high speed, especially if it triggers elastic collision forces - it might 'flap' the simulation and enforce a disproportionate amount of damage.

I wonder if there's a tweak that can be done for colliding with the nav beacon?

Perhaps the nav beacon can be treated just like a non-fixed physical object, and can be moved, receive damage, and be destroyed. The controlling station would then impose a fine for damage or destruction, and the object is re-instated quietly later.

Oh i feel for the OP, first time i hit the nav beacon in beta, i was flying towards it and though it was a ship in the distance, the nav beacon became KOS and has been ever since.
