Hardware & Technical Computer Build to run Elite Dangerous

Have you checked to see if your laptop has more than one graphics chip? some have two and you can switch between the two, usually via the makers own program or app on the laptop. I have a built in intel gfx chip and also anadd on chip, a geforce one, generally for games the add on gfx is better than the built in one (intel). You can also set up profiles for games to say which gfx chip to use.

Just my 2c worth, you never know, you may have two gfx chips but didn't realise...

Thanks I'll check, I'm not too sure though, It was an expensive laptop back in the day, But that was nearly 4 years ago now, Crazy how time flies right? Would I be able to see all of the Chips just through the system properties?

Its sort of strange that my laptop can play skyrim pretty well but it wouldn't be able to play this game. Then again I don't really know how intense this game is graphics wise.

Maybe you need a new pc?

That is a distinct possibility, It's handled itself so far pretty well, But I guess it's starting to show it's age.

Hi there. Here's my rig

CPU: Intel core i7 5930K
Mobo: ASUS X99-Deluxe
Ram: 32gb Corsair Vengeance LPX
GPU: 2x ASUS GeForce GTX 980 STRIX
PSU: Corsair AX1200i
Cooling: Corsair H100i

If you don't have enough video RAM then you can't play the game, I'm sorry.
But like the others said, upgrading your laptop or buying a new game laptop or desktop is the best choice. With all the new hardware you can play every game you like. But don't buy a pc or laptop for 1000's of dollars/euro's. Because that's not necesarry. Around the 700/800 is just fine, and it will run ED with ease. Just look at the video RAM on the GPU, 3GB is enough.
In case you are planning to buy one, otherwise forget about what I said ; )

Will it run on my macbook pro using bootcamp and windows 7..

specs:
2.4GHz Intel core i5 (2 core)
8GB 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM
Intel HD Graphics 3000 512MB

???

In fact, 1Gb works fine for me, at least with Elite (Nvidia GTX560). All settings maxed bar shadows at medium, and no ambient occlusion lighting-thingy (sorry to get technical).

8Gb, i7 3770K overclocked to 4.2Ghz - runs Elite very well.

Yes 1GB is enough for ED but other games are starting to ask 3GB so it's just to prevent issues with other games. I don't think it's smart to upgrade purely for one game.

I run this game everything on ultra and I have Radeon r9 280 with 3GB video RAM. I have 8 GB RAM and the i5 4670 3.4 Ghz.
I haven't seen a reason to upgrade the i5 to i7 yet.

Yeah I've come to the realization that I should probably just get a new desktop, I've gone without one for a while now and I think it's about time to get a new one. Lucky tax return season is almost here.

Thanks for all the feed back, I look forward to meeting you guys in game soon

Yes because i specifically built my PC to only play Elite Dangerous and do nothing else.

Why on earth put 32GB of ram in it. Bet you'll not (rarely) even see a quarter being used?

I believe he was being sarcastic,,,,, :)

As to having 32 gigs of ram: For most computer programs 32 gigs of memory is way overkill.

Unless he is running Photoshop. When it comes to that, their is no such thing as too much memory.

I've got a Lenovo Y510p, too.
GPU: 2 x NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M (SLI)
CPU: Core I7-4700MQ 2.4GHz
RAM: 8GB

SLI does it's work perfectly i run 1080p, high preset, AA: smaa and get constant 45fps (limited by myself because of heat)
With just one GPU i can do 1080p, medium/high, AA: off and get perfectly fine 30-45fps

Conclusion: Except the known Y510p-heat issues it's perfectly capable of running ED.
(btw: re-applying thermopaste and using a coolingpad gets rid of these problems)

Offline mode.
