I hate Cobras.

I don't get the name-calling between Solo and Open players. Though I was surprised/skeptical when FD announced there would be no division between the two, my experience of the game since then has been perfectly fine. When I couldn't get a space at an outpost, i'd switch to Solo and dock. If a warzone is being blockaded by too many players and I need to get a mission finished, I go to Solo to do it.

Mostly I want the extra excitement of Open so that's where I sit, and if battle is joined then let the dice fall where they may. Just because we need to balance the game with PvP in mind, doesn't mean the game needs to be designed purely to give PvPers a target-rich enviroment. Congrats to the OP for adapting to this threat.

Repped for dealing with pirates in a logical way rather than plug pulling or calling greifer.
^This
For what its worth he did call them rabid dogs, which equates them to a sick and damaged animal with no capability of rational thought or anything beyond a compulsion towards random violence.

Not sure if that is better or worse, but it seems apropos. ;)
Best to put them out of our err I mean their misery.
No. I mean our.

Why would you call someone names for not wanting to deal with pvp? Cant they play the way they want to and you play the way you want to with out being a looser.

Just typical bully behavior attempting to shame people out into Open with petty insults, nothing new, its the whole reason the pew pew crew invented the carebear moniker. Probably mostly too young and naive to realize that bravery, fear and cowardice don't come into play in video games. You want to prove how brave and tough you are? Join the military, be a firefighter, or a law enforcement officer. Fear and bravery arent anywhere in the equation in a video game, its just about what each individual finds fun.

We don't make you play in solo. Cowardice does.

...and now I have the mental image of when airplanes first came out for carrying cargo, and people no longer had to transport EVERYTHING across the oceans with ships, of some pirates sitting there watching the planes fly safely overhead, and yelling "COWARDS!!!!" at them. :-D

Wait a minute...

First you go "rabid dog" on players who are actually trying to play piracy in the way people like yourself are complaining that people don't play piracy.

Then you proceed to complain about "rabid dogs" who do to you what you do to inexperienced or rookie pirates.

Why isn't there a picture of you in the dictionary next to 'hypocrite' ?

Internet never ceases to be funny I guess.

There's a reason why "pirates" and "murders" are two separate words with different meanings. I've yet to see any Somalian pirates mug passing frigates by BLOWING THE SHIP UP and scoop the cargo because they know that would probably lead to a war. Unfortunately such consequences doesn't exist in E: D.

Besides, I used "rabid dogs" as an analogy because they don't seem to understand the time and effort going into a ship big as Type-9, just like how rabid dogs could not comprehend human, or even healthy dogs. I've seen pirates who would beat you to 10% and then ask you to drop cargo, because they know otherwise the prey would go for another route or simply quit game to save cargo. Those rabid dogs they won't. They just open up and...wait a minute, are you one of them? Did I offend you? Oh I'm sorry! Poor baby, I'll leave you plenty of mines and missiles for treat if I ever run into you.... :)

Agreed. I've said it before and I'll probably keep saying it... The Cobra is overpowered when compared to other ships in it's class, most notably, the Viper.

Cobra is clearly a class above Viper. A multi purpose craft like Asp (which in turn is one tier above Cobra) compared to a fighter with similar firepower and maneuverability but less capacity/versatility. After all, it costs like three times the amount to get A class components to Cobra compared to Viper.

I know, right?! For a ship weighting 1000 tons, T9's shield is barely stronger than a Viper and the hull is made of paper!

And Viper has more shields than Cobra.

Not true anymore - whether you submit or not, cooldown is half a minute or so.
Oh, how i wish that to be true...
Last night my cooldown for submitting was literally 10 secs. That's changed??
Last night, submitting to NPC was still giving a 10 second cooldown.

My only problem with the Cobra is it's quite clearly the dev favourite and it's treated as such. Anything else is a tradeoff - rather than being excellent at one thing, it's mostly good at everything. That being said, fighting them isn't a no-win situation.
...
I think that is fine. The Cobra is relatively easy to get into, and upkeep is cheap enough to stay into. It can do most things decently well. It can trade, including rares. It can hunt bounties and pirate. It can explore. It is intended for casual players to be able to enjoy all aspects of the game without having to play 20 hours a week.

Why is irrelevant, unless you're Agatha Christie.
It is relevant. I'm not flying a T9 to blow ships up, I'm there to make profit. However, my ship got blown up by a Cobra pirate before and now I'm taking my turn to blow them up - I was the one interdicting them, btw.

The satisfaction is from vengeance, not from blood thirst. Unfortunately poor Valan here doesn't seem to comprehend the concept of context.

Well he wasnt really talking about pirates, he was talking about ""rabid dogs", because they would open fire on sight and would not stop until you explode.", and again would you consider being called a rabid dog less of an insult than griefer? That just seems strange to me. Griefer is just a silly made up word that people who were sick of being called carebears came up with.

I'm pretty sure that the term "griefer" is much older than "carebear". I first heard the term Carebear used back in the 90's when playing everquest and the PvP'ers refered to people on the PVE servers as carebears. It later morphed into a term for anybody who wasn't a "hardcore".. "make the game unplyable to all but 12 year olds on summer vacation" type player. It keeps evolving... Griefer on the other hand has always been used to describe anybody whose enjoyment of a game revolves around ruining the game experience for other players... and that goes back long before Everquest.

I understand they are going to fix that. It was never intended for that purpose.

how was it not intended for that purpose? The whole concept of "submitting" is that you both make a graceful exit out of supercruise rather than having one pull the other forcefully out, which results in "normal" cooldown vs. "emergency stop" cooldown. I hope they don't change that... to me it works right now exactly how it should.

People were complaining that System Authority Vessels were pulling people out of SC to do smuggling checks, and that this: 1. Damaged the hull, 2. Meant that after the scan, which took seconds, you had to wait 40s for the FSD cool down to get on your way.

Submission was never intended as an anti-piracy move. You were meant to fight it.

They suggested that they might allow the interdictor to run on after a pull out for 40 seconds, disrupting the marks ability to engage FSD, whilst Police will disengage once the scan is finished. However, that might take some time to do... so down the line...

It is irrational unless it is the same guy who blew you up. To him you're a rabid dog. That is the point. People have different motivations. Your judgement of their reason is no more valid or invalid than their reason for doing what they did in the first place.

This is a game it has a set of rules. If you play within the rules then it is valid. It is irrational to transpose real world values into the a virtual world where the consequences aren't the same.

You often see the word psychopath banded about regarding PvPers. I've met some of these people in RL and they're harmless nice people. I've met carebears that will punch you in the face if you look at them wrong in a pub.

Two separate worlds one is real one isn't attaching strong emotions to something that isn't real is unhealthy. It is a game losing is part of it, enjoy it or don't. If you don't, don't play it.

You've used the term work in terms of playing a game. Why would you work at a game. You should enjoy it. If you don't what the hell are you doing? Losing a ship is a chance for more enjoyment.
