Personally i would be just happy enough if Braben will post a word.

just a single word about Elite and its future.

IIRC some one on twitter asked that question and the answer was a "YES".
what most people want is a date or year or indeed which decade that we might see the game.:D:D

Good suggestion ^_^

But yes, it would be great if Mr Braben could drop by the forum now and then, even if it's just to say hello :) Oh, and Callum, did he get a chance to look at that video of Pioneer yet? It would mean alot to the devs if he could share his thoughts about it. ;) More video here http://www.spacesimcentral.com/post9006.html#p9006

Now I've got a link to a video I'll send it across - can't guarentee anything as he is an extremely busy man, which is also why you don't see him around the forum much of late.

I don't think it's ever been a question of if with E4 but when.

I know it was looked at 10 years ago, but it was decided that current technology (at the time) was not capable of what David wanted to do with the game. Now, as technology (in my opinion) is up to tthe task we can only hope the lads at Frontier are seriously looking at getting their heads together and producing the game that will be a worthy successor.

It has been mentioned on here thet the Outsider game engine could be used for E4, which hopefully will make the developement process a bit quicker as the mechanics will already be there. I'm also hoping that work has already started in some way.

And as we're all going to Bananascopes house and Turwitt bringing the Slaves, I'll being the Luxury Goods and Alcohol as long as Turwitt keeps one of those Slave Girls for me. :D

The DEAL! Oktoberfest!

The original Elite celebrated it's launch at Thorpe Park... we'll have to see how we can top that :)

Here comes my deal: you release ELITE IV NEXT WEEK and I will sponsor you all a weekend at the Munich Oktoberfest that starts this Sunday!

You are all welcome - unlimited Weißbier and Weißwurst!

PS: don't forget to bring the slaves and narcotics though!

C'mon Frontier. You know that's an offer you can't refuse! :D

I was thinking about how Microsoft's new Kinect could work in the new Elite game.

Turn 10 are saying that with the camera, you be able to use your head to look around the dashboard whilst driving in the new Forza game. But Kinect also has voice recognition. I can imagine it's implementation in Elite IV - "Computer set a course for Earth." or "Computer, set up orbit around Jupiter". (This assumes you've bought the autopilot).

Well virtual cockpits would be nice but I expect it will depend on how many ship they have in the game, although they could just do 10 or so and leave the rest for the mod community to do.
I like to see some interaction with merchants or job patrons where you actions or tone of voice would determine the outcome of the transaction ie infuriate the merchant by arguing to much about the price of the good and he will just cut you off.
Could also be use to determine if a NPC is telling the truth instead of all that eye brow wriggling min game nonsense they have in oblivion, or just give then a good slap.
If it can recognize where your hand is pointing then you could say scan ship and just point to the target on screen or indeed target ship.

I use a TrackIR 5 for all my sim flying and some racing games - that could easily translate to a nice cockpit/head movement implimentation... and it costs about the same as the Kinect (i.e. too much to make it anything other than a luxury item).

A lot will depend on weather Kinect/Move take off and if any one can come up with the killer app for it, but I think this tecnology is here to stay and the next gen of console should see it as a built in standard.
I see Argos is selling it for £250 which is the same price I paid for a PS1 back in 97 and no doubt there will be price war between microsoft and sony which will drive the price down.

That will be with a console as well - the unit costs £124 with Kinect Adventures. There is of course also Kinectimals from Frontier but I don't think I'm willing to pay £124 for the Kinect and then £30-£40 to fondle a small fuzzy thing (I can do that for free...:p)

EDIT: Actually after watching some stuff about Kinectimals on Youtube, it's actually a genuinely clever game that I wouldn't mind having a look at - but not for £30-£40...

Mr Braben doing the demo here I believe:

Very true if you not doing a trade in or buying it for the first time, but I think Rgmarett question is more hypothetical although if Elite 4 fails to appear this generation then it will probably support Kinect/move on the next gen of consoles.

Be very wary of knot holes and lurking squirrels.:D:D

That game with 3D TV and POV tracking would be a head trip.

Hummm 3D :)
That Kinectimals interface would be great with the starmap being able to rotate and zoom in and out not sure how you would be able to control the ship.Maybe a sphere in the centre like a virtual trackball controller to control the ships direction and orientation
