They (CIG) really do need to add a way to earn $UEC, in-game, in Arena Commander, soon. Not saying ships should necessarily be available to buy with $UEC at this point, but weapons and equipment should, IMHO.

Daniel Wilks from PC Powerplay posted on the Star Citizen reddit following the drama caused by their freelancer journalist Bennett:
"Hi guys - I'm going to take responsibility for the Scam Citizen issue. The issue went to print during the handover from John Gillooly and myself as editors and I let it slip through. I will be printing a retraction in the next issue that goes to print (238, on sale March 19).
What Bennett obviously intended as a joke doesn't come across that way in print and I apologise again.
Cheers
Daniel Wilks"

Well, personally I've pretty much given up even following what's happening with Star Citizen. Maybe when they release something that's actually worth playing I'll try it again.

They are, actually. And you'll be able to melt purchased Voyager Direct items to regain credit.

AC can be plenty fun already, at least to me and some of my SC pals. We do weekly meetups when we can swing it.
And if AC isn't of interest yet then the social and FPS modules are out around March.
I just wanted to pop in here.
Im somewhat disillusioned with the current pace of ED as an alpha day one player Im finding that the development here is not heading in the direction nor the speed I expected it to.
Anyways...
I backed SC at the 16 million point and I havent booted it up since AC release. Which i was disappointed with at the time.
However just today i updated to the current build and I am really impressed with the progress. The flight model and options for control customising have made massive jumps. I had a really great time for the last few hours just playing about with the drone sim. The flight model improvements have made it far more intuitive and FUN!
Please Deliver RSI! ED will be dead in 2 years.
Most Voyager Direct store equipment werent even implemented properly until October / November. They were not ready. That store was very neglected and was collecting dust. Only a very small user base ever used the VD store.

Personally, I'm actually quite disappointed or "mad" if you will that CIG has basically been charging everyone before and since AC release for people to use new weapons/equipment. I mean hell, 8 months ago when AC came out CIG promised us a way to earn credits in AC to buy stuff, said "coming soon"...yet they charged people for 8+ months. I mean I donated in hundreds sure, but them charging people to use stuff in AC left a sour taste in my mouth. I mean here is a game that does not even have a PU alpha out and they of all things charge people real money to use new equipment in the test module. I don't care that if you purchase it now it can be used in the future PU release, a competent, hell even a none competent company can easily distinguish equipment that is going to be PU and AC only. It's no wonder that every forum where there is discussion on SC it gets critizised for basically P2W, which is what it is now and of course monetizing every aspect of development.
The thing is here, CIG from start has been giving publishers bad lip because of how they treat gamers and games in general, dumbing down content, DLC's and you name it. Yet they go ahead and do something like charge people real life money to TEST equipment in AC. Yeah, they promised a way to earn "credits" for testing purposes, but that was 8 months ago. The funny part here is, people trash other companies left and right for charging money for anything, yet CIG gets the "Golden Approval" because somehow just because they don't have a publisher, already sitting at 3x their asking budget of $23 million (From December 2013) and all of a sudden its ok...because you know..."they need it"...
I'm just kind of excited that this year we will at least get to see how the game will truly play and if it will be fun because a lot of the different parts will start to come together and of course the PU Alpha will be coming out. We get to see exactly what type of gameplay there will be, what features they promised will either be cut or be made into the game and etc. Not to mention a lot of the little details and features will be making it into the game. Right now everything is pretty much raw, even the flight model/mechanics. Heck, even the very basics, the controls are still not finished/balanced properly.

Hmm. I'm preparing myself for disappointment, so that if SC actually turns out to be any good, I'll be very happy. I made the mistake of putting ED up on a pedestal (sort of like you're doing with SC) so when it was finally released, it would never have been everything I wanted it to be. I'm pragmatic, and have come to terms with what we have and what's to come, but I do get this feeling that a lot of people are setting themselves up for disappointment with SC however it turns out.Support it or not you should prepare yourself to be amazed.

I am all for funding CIG, but charging people money to test or use equipment in a game that is not even in Alpha is purely classless and screams a money grab. Hell, charging people in itself to use equipment is an extreme low in the gaming industry. Yeah, they promised us a way to "earn credits" to buy these items, but that was well over 8 months ago, in the mean time they were more than happy to get $15-20 from people per item bought in the VD store.
If anything I am way more grounded on how SC will turn out. Yeah I gave them in the hundreds but that was early on in 2012, CIG was more grounded themselves then. Now there are huge promises made by CR, you have SQ 42 single player, MMO, FPS, dogfighting, and multi-crew ships, five completely different styles or should I say 5 games in 1. There are countless studios out there that have existed for decades worked as teams for decades and budgets much larger than CIG's. A lot of them have failed delivering a single fun game type, let alone multiple. Yet we have a brand new studio, with a mix of veterans and new blood promising the world and then some.
What we have now is basically a single game type that is still super raw and tons of missing features. If anything 2015 and early 2016 will be a huge tell weather or not CIG is actually able to deliver on those promises, let alone a fun game. Because we will finally get to see how those different play styles interact, what features make it into the game and which ones are cut. They've talked a lot on complexities but this year will show if they are able to deliver or not. Especially on that 64 bit push.
Why is that a "money grab"? All the items will be available ingame for free. Research & Development costs money, so everyone who contributes can choose digital items as a little thank you.
You know, you can play everything with a $20 Aurora Starter edition, that is occasionally on sale.
The gaming industry is underperforming badly in the past decade, for several reasons, but foremost the lack of R&D and the ignorance of current hardware and software technologies. However R&D takes time and money and currently the gaming industry needs to bridge a roughly 10 year development gap that they are now in compared to consumer hardware and other parts of the software industry.
Currently, there is an alpha version of the combat module out as well as a hangar. Both are only two small portions of the final game.
That "64bit push" is one of the things that are long overdue. Crytek ported their engine to 64bit in 2004. But they didn't do everything, e.g. the double precision issue. Now CIG has to do it for them. Just compare Crysis 2 and 3 to their first iteration, things have gone so down the drain..
In the end, delivering on their promises is not utopian, because the technology exists and there are professionals within the industry (not necessarily in gaming) who are skilled with it. It's merely a matter of finding them and putting them to work. A small step for a software company, a huge step for the gaming industry.
