One other thing to consider, that really has not been mentioned is the fact that over the last 2 years any attempt at Frontier even hinting at DDF members having an advantage in game has been shot down in flames by the majority of the DDF.
I can honestly say that if Frontier suddenly announced that the DDF were to have some massive god like powers in game that would give them an advantage it would be rejected by the vast majority of DDF members.
It's very possible that Frontier have thought "Hmmm they don't even want a minor advantage, maybe we need to rethink what god mode is".
They are still thinking...and the latest thread is them doing exactly this.

* If you are a shareholder in a business, you have a voice, although how much depends on your % of shares. In ED terms, those who backed early on are a bit like shareholders. They invested in the game to a higher level than the average player.

I would tend to disagree with this. Some of the loudest voices of criticism of FD in the Refund group are from the very earliest backers. They feel their loyalty in funding, and acceptance of early risk which allowed the game to be made, was swept aside once commercial pressure came to bear. Often DDF members are the most vocal about their mistrust of FD nowadays.

Certainly they state that the DDF's supposed ongoing input into the game is not happening. I actually had DDF membership but never bothered to use it, and now I am refunded I obviously don't have access so I am of course hearing somewhat secondhand info here, but the theme is a repeated one, so I tend to give it some weight. Now, that's not to say it's most of the DDFers or early backers who are unhappy, people who are not happy tend to make the most noise anyway, that's just the way it goes in life. But certainly being an early backer (as I was) is no ticket to feeling FD rewarded your investments of time and money correctly (quite literally in the case of the outstanding KS rewards).

I don't think it was actually required.
The people who backed to the DDF level consisted entirely of people who grew up playing the Elite series. Almost all the DDF have been waiting for Elite 4 for 15+ years! Waiting...eagerly waiting...and waiting...then YAY! The day came.
They didn't back to that level to get God Like Powers. God like powers was just an added bonus essentially.
After a while it became apparent the DDF didn't want in game advantages...what were Frontier supposed to do?

If they're given godlike powers to determine where to expand - what do we expect the outcome to be?

If they're not, will they mind? Will we?

The best godlike power I think would be "free choice" - whether to play in open/pg/solo or even at all ;-) The ultimate power.

Not complaining about it myself (I am NOT DDF) what you are saying is that DDF want a good game more than they want to be powerful jerks in a bad game. Grown up attitude, more needed around here

I would like to hope that is what ALL of us want.... even the people who disagree with what I think makes a good game (aka the people who are wrong! )

I am not in the DDF - I considered it but decided I could not stretch quite that far - but to be fair, reading most of the proposals in the DDFA, so long as that is the approximate path FD take gamewise I think most people, or most of the people who accept the core values of what Elite is, will be happy. I guess it comes down to the logistics of whether it is feasible or not given any possible budget / technical constraints.
