News Announcement: Elite: Dangerous coming to Xbox One

Well, you're right. Every single decision of the dev team, as minor as it may seem, will have to be made with every platform in mind. There will be compromises. It is 100% inevitable.
The big question for me is more like... they have announced the XBone version now but how long have they internally already had it on their mind? How much of the current ED is already a game that has been made with consoles in mind? Has there been internal builds running on the Xbone (dev kit) for the longest time already?
If what I suspect is true, which is that Xbone has been planned from the start, then the current state of the PC version bodes well for the future as FD seem to respect the PC platform and PC gamers' specific needs. If, however, the Xbone version is a relatively new prospect, then the future has indeed become a lot more uncertain. Who knows what compromises and dumbing down will ensue to make both versions of the game more manageable for the FD team? I guess we will inevitably find out in the not too distant future. No real immediate need for putting on any helmets just yet ;) .

This is already the case for solo mode. Well maybe, Wings and Powerplay actually show less focus on solo, but at the same time anything they implement can't BREAK it.

Are there people here who really see the xbox as a powerful system? Are you playing on potatoes?

The Xbox is not a gaming PC, but many people here are running ED on older PCs that aren't that much better than the Xbox is now. The PS4 is better technically.

What I would like to see, if possible, are features implemented on the PC side that can't be on the Xbox for technical reasons (e.g. SMAA supersampling). Maybe even more in game features, but that could cause the Xbox owners to get upset. It will be interesting to see how FD handles this.

This is the first time I'm beginning to have doubts about the future of Elite. I really hope that the hardware limitations of XB won't affect the PC development stream. I do remember Mr. Braben talking about future-proofing Elite Dangerous, so it's kind of ambivalent feeling here on my side. I don't know what to think about this if I'm honest.

Don't worry about it as the way I see it I that the game is future proofed in that if you have the hardware to do x,y,z then it will be taken care of but if the xbox can only do x then that is all you will see. The development of the game will progress with all players able to fly a ship and do whatever they want to in order to affect the galaxy which you will see no matter what you are using, it I just that xbox players and pc (&mac) players will never meet face to face.
Our pc version may be superior to the xbox version but I do not expect them to start leaving out y or z abilities due to xbox inability because of three reasons 1. FD said that they are making the game they want, 2. FD said that it is being future proofed and a newer xbox version will come into being at some point which will benefit Elites capabilities and 3. I am gullible sorry, I mean, I have faith

DBOBE has categorically said it won't be dumbed down. So it won't be "Lite".

Maybe not dumbed down - but I don't think it'll push the graphical limits. More than likely it'll be the engine stuck on somewhere between Medium and High. Also patch cycles will have to be different (especially as each system will have different bugs)

How will you handle all issues due to game controllers once your expansions will be released ? Like the FPS module ?
How will you handle multiple interfaces ?
How how how ? .... I've so many questions but right now, I'm just disapointed to know that.

I don't get it... really

Since FD are still implementing the stuff which should have been released last year, I can't see PC and Mac's playing alongside Xbox One users anytime this century.

1080p and 60fps are the 2 things I can think of straight away lol.

CCP did it with Dust 514 on the PS3/4. That allows them to run a Call of Duty style first person shooter in the same universe as EVE Online, and even have the groundpounders interact with PC based space players to co-ordinate planetary bombardment. Space borne corporations can hire mercenary armies to help them conquer systems and take over planets...

I recall reading that the reason CCP went with PS3 rather than Xbox360, was Microsofts over controlling nature. At the time MS demanded all online avatars to be known as their Xbox login names. Also there were issues with matching the servers up too, which MS didn't want to allow, The game had to run one their servers not CCPs. This may have changed however.

Already stated that more or less in another thread. Cool, but only as long as this means we won't see some niceties like lowered graphics and such for the PC version. Otherwise, no deal for me - as much as i love the game.

I would hope that limitations remain hardware based. That way, the simple retort is, there are PCs on the market that can handle this stuff, so if you want it, pony up the cash. If they start limiting gameplay features, then we start running into a disparity that could end up badly.

What i get from this post "No we don't care about PC! Thanks for being out test bed, we are bringing the game to a closed platform. No NOT steam! We don't love you enough to do that. We are talking about bringing it to XBONE! You know, so THAT can hold back the PC VERSION, like every other console game port deals with. Be sure to support us by buying the game TWICE!"

Bravo, Frontier.

Only time will tell on this matter, besides whats the difference between an xbox player and a pc player using an x-box controller..... to you/me nothing so why even worry about it. Its only an image on your screen and how you control your ship.
