Huzzah for Women Commanders - Interngalactic Women's Day

I'd like there to be days set for celebrating something to do with the game, since these are forums for the game, not "general life".

So something like:
- Explorer's Day
- Pirate & Bounty Hunter Day
- Elite Week
- Mostly Harmless Mondays
- Dangerous Day
- Miner's Month

Or my favourite:

- Intergalactic Day of Peace!
(No killing of unWanted / Civilians for 24 hours)

Gender equality only seems to be brought up when females are championed,

Whenever I see women referred to as "females" I can't help but read it in a Ferengi voice.

didn't see women protesting to pay the same amount of car Insurance a few years back when companies offered them cheaper rates just for being women.

Insurance for women used to be cheaper because statistically they're a lower risk than men behind the wheel. Whether or not it's a fair to make the distinction is a moot point now it's been outlawed, but it wasn't just some random piece of affirmative action.

Haha, disable everyone's weapons for the day, or just give everyone a single small pulse laser :D

I am female and have my character set as female too. I thought my name (which I have used in various games for over 15 years) also sounded female being based on the Magic Roundabout character, Florence; however, past in-game experience has shown that others don't necessarily think it is and more to do with either sheep or dental floss! I don't mind any other players knowing I am female and I'm proud of the fact I play this male-dominated game. :D

Women gamers have been on the recieving end of a lot of online harassment especially as of late. (Thank you #gamergate X( ) I think it's important to reach out to women gamers and show them that Elite: Dangerous will welcome them and grant them a safe, hate free place to spend their time.
On the receiving end of a lot of harassment as of late? Actually I would say that intergender relations in gaming have improved in a sense. Also stop spreading that nonsense that GG is about misogyny. I won't retort with the much too simplistic "ethics" response even though it's true, but it is DEFINITELY not about misogyny. Many of GG's targets of criticism are male journalists and the females that are targets of criticism are not targets because they are females. It is because of who they are as people. It's just that these females like to hide behind the term of "misogyny" to deflect criticism and to make calling them out an e-crime. GG has plenty of females who are very well-respected and they are properly allowed to voice their opinions.

Back on topic, I don't think we need to create a "safe space" for women to play this game. Not only would I already consider it a safe space, but this is incredibly patronizing and condescending. Women don't need the mens' help with the game. If they do need our help it's because they're new, or misinformed, or bad pilots or whatever- and not because they're female. And men have the same problems. I'm not going to go out of my way to harass a female simply because she is one, but by the same token I'm not going to go out of my way to make things "safe" and "inclusive". The universe is gender-nonspecific and women don't need us men holding their hand every step of the way. They are their own people and they deserve just as much respect and dignity as we do.

EDIT: Also, from my personal experience I have seen women become uncomfortable at men going out of their way to recognize their gender, as in "wow, a female gamer! So cool! Here have all my money." Sometimes females don't want to be thought of as "girl gamers". They just want to be thought of as "gamers", like the rest of us. It's not about who you are, it's about how you play. Treat everyone according to their actions. :)

Lol, you made me laugh hard with "ferengi voice"

Found this on another thread. An informal survey.

The only woman I see has a conference badge around her neck, so probably staff.

2.1% of my views on all Elite videos are female. While not official I can't imagine it'll be that far from the reality of the male/female gamer figures.
