This one's not too bad. Started off with "What's the downside of playing in solo." You know it's only going to be a matter of time.
You're right. We have our very own local version of Eternal September.

Dead horse is dead. Beating it again, over and over, isn't going to make it do anything.
It obviously makes the meat more tender.
No please! Don't put songs in my head... <too late, here comes the eighties synth...>
You mean the "Is there any downside to Solo?" Thread? It's not there yet but give it time, give it time.![]()

I have noticed an odd similarity by the way.
I find the irrational fear of the solo players working actively to thwart the goals of the open player very like the irrational fear of the open players preying on the solo player if that player ever dares to wander into open.
The difference being that the solo player has actual examples of people being pillocks in open.

Thanks for the insults but you misunderstand again. People aren't getting upset because they are losing but because their is nothing they can do about it. Also some people find it fun to support another faction and it doesn't necessarily make them mentally imbalanced. Personally I find it fun to be able to go over and attack the people that are hitting my faction. It would be a lot harder for them to exploit the capital ship in that manner if random player enemies were coming in as well.
Also judging by the way you approach people with differing opinions I highly doubt you were ever like me.![]()

And you missunderstand me completely. I support factions I like too. I just don't stoop to drastically changing the core fundamental aspects of the game when people use a mechanic advantage against my chosen faction.
If you want to talk about changing the capital ship advantage and how to make it more engaging to prevent AFK camping it, I'm with you. But switching game modes because I choose to not associate with a bunch of people I don't want to play with is not the way to go about it.
I approach people with differing opinions differently depending on how they address themselves. Approach the matter with sense and show room to have your midn change, I respond in kind. Approach the subject as a close-minded jerk that's taking the game too seriously, I respond as I have. You struck me as the type who is taking this waaay too seriously and needed a splash of water thrown in his face with a bit of hyperbole. If this is not you, whatever. Just another random stranger on the internet that doesn't like me. No skin off my nose. Just another in a mass of faceless drones that won't change there mind for anything or open to the evolution of the genre.
And you are working against the open players even the ones who are working towards the same goals as your group?
I went out in open instead of mobius group last night because my friend only wants to play in open. Actually saw fewer other players and I went to Alioth, 78 Ursae Majoris (where there was a conflict zone recently) and Wolf 406 where I knew he could buy a vulture and many places in between (short jump range and no fuel scoop). Didn't see another soul.
I also think there are advantages to playing MP in Groups and Open as opposed to playing solo if your not a trader. You can make a LOT of money in a wing very quickly. It seems like the bounties are much higher in a wing. Even with two of you it takes no time at all to rack up 1m. 20 minutes in a RES with vultures and we were making 20k - 200k each in seconds. Plus stolen goods are worth quite a bit now on the black market. All those extra rebel transmissions, prototype tech, blueprints, consumer electronics etc are worth several thousand each. Even in a fighter with a small hold you can make good money each trip just picking up a few canisters.
Sure you can do some of that in Solo, but it's MUCH easier in one of the MP modes.
LOL Ok, so now the guys that play in Solo are the griefers?
This thread just keeps getting weirder and weirder.
Maybe that's why my ship blew up as I was docking a couple of weeks ago. A solo player griefed me! There ought to be a law or something!
My point was exactly that both sides have solo supporters. I can understand the sentiment of unseen factors' influence. Not sure about the factor 10 though.
But isn't the same effect caused by instancing? And while instancing is a thing, seperating solo won't solve that.
FD should make actions taken in open more effective towards influencing community goals than ones taken in solo or particularly private groups. If they estimate that fulfilling contested community goals is twice as hard in open than solo, than the open players' actions should count twice as much towards the goal. That way everyone can enjoy the game the way they want to without losing content and without players who care about the goals being punished for going open.

No, they're cheaters. Simple as that.
Look, I don't care about people playing the game solo. But community goals MUST be made Open only. It's like a soccer game, only some players are allowed to score goals on an empty field and that somehow counts.
<please don't>

I'm not even sure this is the answer, as this doesn't even apply to all community goals. It certainly applies to what is going on in Lugh, but not really the other goals.
