Community Event / Creation Frontier Comic

I have been spending some time preparing to create a Frontier Elite 2 comic following Jameson at the start where he receives his eagle fighter from the will and following him right up to the point where he commands his own starship. I plan to add a lot of the games elements in there, such as the federation,vs imperial, corporate and independent systems. Being involved in cargo, passenger, and smuggling runs, assasinations, military work and even bounty hunters.

I even tried to get in contact with David Braben and his team to pitch the idea to him/them to get legal permission to continue without getting caught up in copyright problems, yet the team haven't replied to me and i cant get hold of Braben anywhere.

That said I work as a freelance video editor 3D animator and special fx artist (check sig) so Creating 3D comics is something I enjoy doing. Below are concept images of what the comic may look like if I can get the official go ahead...

Nice work archamedes,:cool: hope you will consider going ahead with a Frontier version although if you are waiting for an official nod you may be waiting a long time.

Yes, so far I have noticed that, I just don't want to get caught up in some big copyright legal battle, without at least proving I made all efforts possible to contact the rightfull owners for permission go forward with the project first. I wouldn't be making it for financial gain, I remember seeing a post made By Braben himself saying that he welcomed Frontier fiction (mainly the stories) providing it wasn't for money making purposes, I can pretty much confirm that It wouldn't be for making money, but more to entertain those who want to see deeper into the frontier universe. I Do have one request, does anyone know what Jameson's first name is? i Know it starts with J is it John, James, or what?

Isn't The Outsiders characters name John Jameson? I'd assume it would be the same,

And the comic looks fantastic, would love to see that completed.

okay, I made you all a quick preview. The below image is the issue 1 cover (artwork borrowed and edited from here, hope thats not a problem.) and the panels on the right are a few samples of what is to come.

By the way, just who is the Jameson in First Encounters? The son of the FE2 Jameson?

I always found it a bit odd how carefully they set up the character at the beginning of the FE2 manual and didn't do the same in FFE.

When I saw the thread "Frontier Comic" I thought maybe it referred to someone suggesting E4 was coming out...

Seriously, brilliant graphics Archamedes. Thanks for keeping some enthusiasm, most of us who've been around these forums for a few years are just drifting away I think. The cancellation of Outsider and lack of any comment from Frontier makes me feel it's just dead.

thank you for saying that. My love for Frontier has never died, I play it just as much now as I did back in 92, I think the replayability of the game is legendary, it just proves that you don't need super high quality graphics for a game to work.

I sure hope my comic brings back some of the frontier spirit as I will be posting it on as many elite websites as possible. Plus it looks good for my portfolio of 3D work too.

Some nitpicking:

-Needs HUD and scanner that can be observed without taking your eyes from HUD.

-Needs different controls - a combat capable spacecraft would probably have two sticks (assuming traditional controls rather than stuff like hydrostatic tank with neural interface) that could be operated simultaneously (so built into armrests) plus pedals AND it would still need something extra (like hat on top of one of the sticks) to handle the remaining axis of freedom (2 degrees of freedom per stick, one handled by pedals, six total so one remaining).


...I like nitpicking. :cool:

Also, if Jameson's name isn't well established, John Jordan Jameson would be a proper tribute to you-know-who.
