Elite / Frontier Frontier Elite 2 - Amiga Version

Following the marked trade routes around the core systems (the pink lines) is quite a good way to start off and get your bearings. e.g Sol -> Barnard's Star->Arcturus

(I think these are turned off by default, but going to the map screen and pressing F9 a couple times should turn them on)

Arcturus is a jumping off point to a number of surrounding systems. You will need something to shoot back with, though you're unlikely to encounter large numbers of enemies.

Ideally you want to be going: industrial/mining system -> agri system -> industrial and so on

Just for the record, see the vid in my sig and remember to always use "engines off" mode and manual overrides when in combat (possible exception being fighting near planetary surfaces).

I am always on Engines off when I get attacked. That last one that attacked me though was a doozy as I said they sped up to strafe me.

On the subject of missions. The Zeaex system (3,-2) is a system whose ownership is disputed between the Federation and the Empire. You can often see both powers advertising on the bulletin boards, and it's not unknown for your target to be in the same system...

Moving down to (3,-3) Edethex is a Federal system very close to the Imperial core worlds.

here is the stats from my original Amiga game save, I then transferred the floppy disk to an adf file (suitable for AmigaForever/WinUAE).

I compiled a special edition of Frontier: Elite II for Amiga a couple of years ago, more info and download link here

might be work a look ;)

You must have been roleplaying a squeaky clean navy pilot to get so far with no federal record. No shady deals, no itchy trigger finger.

I've tried that special edition adf and I can't seem to get along with it. How do I get the navigation aid? Doesn't seem to be available in the shipyards.

Also, there seems to a mouse release bug left over from the CD32 version. I keep shooting by accident or turning when I'm moving the mouse around with the right button off. :S

Hi MacArthur. The ZZ1 should be available on worlds with the highest tech level. Try the Sol system or Achernar.

And yes with regards to the EAB special Edition, that is a bug that has proven to be tough to fix. I put out an appeal a good while ago for any coders out there to help and will do so again here.

If anyone out there can help track down the last remaining bugs (including the set speed bug), do please drop by EAB, thanks! :)

Ah, so the spaceports I've been visiting are too scummy and villainy. I'll have another look, (if they let me in).

The set speed bug isn't too bad but the mouse capture one really makes it unplayable for me. Not really worth it for the navigation aid unfortunately. :(

FINALLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I FINALLY got a Guardian's Permit to go to VanMaanen's star.....my goodness it took soooooooooooooo long. There was never a job listed on Sol or Barnards to go there but finally I'm there...........................

:):):):)

... to discover the place is a total rubbish bin :)

Anyone tried surfing on Sirus ?

Just wanted to ask if anyone has gone to Sirius B and tried to surf along the accretion path to Sirius A, ie going along for the ride.

Dangerous I know yes.

Just getting too close to Sirius B destroyed me several times.

I think I managed it, or perhaps around another white dwarf. The trick is not to get too close and just skim over the rings. Keep the time acceleration at somewhere medium you can course correct in time and not smack into the star.

Cheers DWorth.

Looks like you can't see the accretion materials between the two but Sirius B does have a ring......lets see how we go with it. I adore FE2.

I must admit whenever I played the Amiga version I couldn't help but use a few urm.. creative methods, to end up havin a cobra mark 3 with class 7 hyperdrive and large plasma accelerator. Never an issue with needing crew then lol.
I frequented Cemiess an awful lot back then

IIRC there was an exploit where if you clicked in the space below the Jettison Cargo button, the cargo would jettison, the amount of free space in your hold would increase by 1t, but the amount of cargo in your hold would remain the same. You could have ships with as much cargo space as you wanted, making it possible to have tiny ships with massive engines that could jump hundreds of light years.

Yup, that's the bug Lebrine used. The other one was taking on a passenger, then trying to buy a cheaper ship with the passenger aboard - you'd get to keep your ship, while pocketing the profit you'd have made on the sale. Think there was another cheat where you could just sit 10km away from a moon or asteroid, and just hit it with a beam laser while fast forwarding time, to quickly gain rank. Within a couple of hours of getting the game, I had the same kitout as Lebrine, and over a million credits in the bank, with the rank of Elite. The game was rather boring, so got fed up of it after a couple of days, and went back to playing Kick Off 2.

Picked it up again a few months later after seeing some science fiction film or another, avoided cheating... and the next six months or so were a blur.

Ahh yes i used that exploit Lebrine and Ubermick used. Got bored quick. Much more fun when i went back to trading and did it properly. Ahh the earlier message about Alpha Centauri - i remember proudly jumping there with a job, thinking it had crashed, before zooming to realise how massive the system was. Not sure i ever completed successfully. I might start a game tonight - still have Amiga 1200 060 to play on! :)

I used to enjoy exploiting that bug where gemstones and precious metals had a negative price in one system, so you were paid big bucks to haul them away.

Singlehandedly paid for a brand-new Imperial Courier.

Ah, the Cemiess system. I'm not sure whether it was an anomaly or not, but it was accounted for in the background fiction.
