The system is Cemiess (-2,-2) but this "feature" only works on the Amiga and Atari ST versions, not the PC

IIRC they were actually illegal. You can only obtain them from the dodgy traders on the bulletin boards in that system.

The blackmarket contact is:-

Patrick's Exchange
Mackenzie Relay
Emerald
Cemiess (-2,-2)

Hope that helps Styggron :)

I still have my FE2 notebook from 1993

Thank you SO much for this. Going to play some FE2 when I get home. :):)

No probs...

Tiny Guide:-

Best to go with a medium/large fighter ship, I used an Asp with military drive (less cargo space required), shields and beam lasers etc, the Cemiess system is in anarchy so its highly likely you'll get attacked by pirates (normally around 2-4 times, sometimes 3 at once) and these guys don't muck around...

...once you get there, search the BBS for the contact in the previous post, sometimes he won't be there so just advance time until he is. Don't use any other contact as it will be a Police trap.

Sell everything from you ship, leaving yourself just the star drive, fuel and autopilot, you won't need anything else for the return journey, giving you the maximum cargo space to fill up with Gemstones, you'll get a bit of money by selling your equipment, but each cargo space is worth much more money empty ;)

You won't even need Atmospheric Shielding;)

Once you are full to the brim, set your destination system and launch hitting hyperspace as quickly as possible, 3 more jumps you'll be in Barnard's Star system, where you never get attacked and Radioactives (by-product of Military fuel) are not illegal (as they are in Sol).

Sell your Gemstones, re-buy your equipment, rinse repeat!

There are places where you get BBS buyers paying a premium for Gemstones, but they are a bit far away, you'll definitely need a well armed ship (loosing cargo space that could be for Gemstones).

It is possible to do this in a trader*... but it costs alot to arm it, harder to defend, of course you'll need to make more jumps and when you finished doing the trade runs you'll have staff to fire :(

*to me it didn't feel, uhmm... right! I preferred to think of it as a quick dash, daring, risky mission... rather than a legit trade run.

I seem to remember that I did it by working my way through progressively bigger and bigger and ships. That way, I only need a couple of extra crew members when I got the Panther.

Generally works, though you can still find yourself stuck with a bulletin board which offers no crew. One way round is to only upgrade your ship when you've seen enough crew advertising on the board.

Ok I now have an Asp Explorer with 1 crew member. I am trying to get that mission to take you to Van Maanens. The one you need a permit for. Generally in tutorials I always see "get your permit from Sol" yeah well, I never see the mission that asks me to take a parcel there ahhh well.

My Asp (ha!) can do the distance from Sol as it is 13.59 LY but getting from Van Maanens back to Barnards is a long trip.

The idea according to this guide. http://www.sharoma.com/frontierverse/trading.htm is to do SOL --> Van Maanens -- > Barnard's Star

Taking Luxury Goods from SOL to Van Maanens (where they are illegal!) then Fruit and Veg to Barnards and then the usual Robots to Sol.

Not quite as simple because you need to do big jumps so need a bigger ship or stop between which means you are away from the safe route of Sol/barnards which means you will get attacked which means just having an autopilot is not enough.

So before you do this get your cash up with the milkrun. I have 400,000 or so credits so far on milk runs and can carry 5 tons of fuel and 69 tons or cargo. All I have is an autopilot. Actually I'm pretty sure I only have a class 2 hyperdrive at the moment so I will have to swap for a class 3 to make the distance else stop along the way which I don't fancy. Milk run seems far more profitable and safe but it is getting time to venture out.

So to venture out I'll need a 1 mw beam later as well. Some other things might be nice as well but lets see how I go with just those.

Sooooooooo all I need now is wait for the bulletin board mission in Sol that wants me to take a parcel to VanMaanens. Of course I could go there without one too but I'd rather do it with.

I reckon Bernard's > Sol then jump to Ross 154 and then to Bernard's is a lucrative take on the galaxy's most famous milk run. Pick up animal skins on Merlin - u can sell them on the black market I think @ Bernard's and on occasion some guy wants to pay a pretty high prove for them - much like robots/computers in Sol

Righto chaps and chapesses I was lucky enough to find a complete Frontier : Elite 2 game in a local charity shop for £1. Now I obviously bought it despite my wife saying......"You already have that up on your shelf!", "That may be true said I but I can't not buy it can I?"

So I now have 2 games and the question is would anyone like one? This is the Amiga Version and it contains:

Large star chart, A2 size I think
The manual
The Gazatteer
Frontier Quick start guide
The form to fill out if you wanted a limited edition t-shirt
The Book of short stories "Stories of Life on the Frontier"
The two 3.5 inch floppy disks

All of the above is in pretty good condition.

If anyone wants this and lets be clear I'm giving it away for free, I'll even cover the postage, then PM me your name and address, first come first served.

Just to confirm that my extra copy of Frontier Elite 2 will be heading to a new home very shortly. Sorry if anyone else wanted it. :)

Also, there seems to a mouse release bug left over from the CD32 version. I keep shooting by accident or turning when I'm moving the mouse around with the right button off. :S

That was a real shame, the CD32 was the latest version of Frontier ever produced on any platform, I think, but if you used it with a normal Amiga, it tended to fire the laser the first time you selected something in a station, giving you a record.

I think it had greater capabilities regarding locking the autopilot on to ground planet-based targets ...or something.

I reckon Bernard's > Sol then jump to Ross 154 and then to Bernard's is a lucrative take on the galaxy's most famous milk run.

There's one massive downside to that route. Ross 154 is notorious for being jam-packed, being in the core systems - with only 1 starport and only 2 landing pads there.
