FD really should have issued Steam codes to their existing player-base first, so that we could upload videos, guides and write reviews that explained what the game was and what you could do....

Because they didn't, the user rating on Steam is tanking because of people that have played it for a day and have no idea what to do...Though it may also be a rather harsh wake-up call for FD regarding the short-comings of their game and what they need to prioritize for future updates.

I live in the northeastern US, relatively close to a Steam update server. Slowest download I have seen from Steam? 10MB/s. Fastest I have seen in the E:D Launcher for updates/installs? 5MB/s. I'd also rather launch through steam (I don't mind logging in to ED, keeping FD able to ban people from Open is a good thing for everyone) as Steam will track my playtime so I can see how much time I actually am sinking into the game (for reference, I am currently at over 1350 hours in Euro Truck Simulator 2 since it hit Steam. Second place goes to Crusader Kings II with 540 hours).

TBH i haven't read all 16 pages so i will ask this..... u want an extra free key for steam that you could then sell/gift to anyone on steam? Surely you see the problem here?

In the past with games like this the key has been locked to a specific account, ie in order to create an ED account you would need to enter the steam key. If you already have an ED account and are changing over to the steam version that key has already been locked to your account.

YES!

I just saw that this game came out on Steam and all I have to say is that I would LOVE having this game in my library. I really hope they consider giving us this option as I had no idea Elite: Dangerous would be coming to Steam when I bought it some months back. It would also make convincing potential players into picking it up much easier if they see you playing it all the time.

Really awesome game. Please consider this!

I think that if you backed the game before launch like Beta two and prior I would almost say we are very much entitled to the steam key as we already purchased the game at a higher price point in the first place and if they released it on steam then we should get a key its fair.

I'd like one, if only so that steam updates the game automatically for me rather than firing up the launcher, seeing the upgrade button, and having to wait for a terminally slow download after which I no longer have time to play.

community manager said on a steam topic thats has a incredible amount of replies that if there was demand then they would consider it...

.... *scratches head* dunno about yous but im seeing a huge demand for it on both steam forums and here as well

This is a really dumb thread. Michael has shown many times how to add ED to Steam, if you have already bought the game, without need a key.

How could it be "dumb" since having a game activated on steam is very different compared to having a non-steam game in the list. Just look at the posts in this thread mentioning the advantages of having the game active on steam, so you could be enlightened on what's the difference.

I def want one.

I have a lot of friends who play elite as friends on my steam account, I'd like to know when they start the game, when I'm not on it.
I also ABSOLUTELY want the automatic update feature, SO MUCH.
Keeping track of my playtime in Elite could be nice, too but I really doubt it'd be correct as of now... Because I already have hundreds of hours in game lol.

This is a really dumb answer. You obviously don't know how steam works.
