FD: Apparently Elite got noticed, not in a good way

[SNIP]
It only takes a few words from an experienced player to a newbie being blown up a lot in Open Play, and they're sorted. Like,
[SNIP]
So there are many alternatives to "leaving the game" or "leaving Open Play". :)

Well said, Elvis.
*** Your compilation of distilled tips for E : D n00bs ought to be turned into a sticky and put in forum for new players. ***

+1 Rep (I tried to give you rep, but the forum wouldn't let me)

One thing I'd add about a new CMDR joining a group is that the more established players are usually more than willing to give a helping hand to ease the grind of getting up to a decent ship (say to a Viper or Cobra from anything smaller) - There's also that bit of backup should a griefer be encountered in open play

In addition, FD would do very well to implement the suggestion that has repeatedly come up in this thread which is to spawn new CMDRs in a much wider variety of locations

As one who tends to prefer solo games and was one of those who was disappointed that FD backed away from delivering true offline mode, my 'tuppence-worth' is:
* As a new E : D player (but most certainly not new to Elite), I'd come across half the tactical solutions offered above and quickly worked out the other half
* When the first lot of griefers were routinely hanging around n00b spawn systems and popular Rares stations, I made the decision to implement the first long term solution above, which was a good thing
* I'm now glad there wasn't an offline mode to begin with, since I stumbled across and subsequently joined a group of like-minded players and thus implemented the second long term solution

As for that last point, I'm having a blast and haven't looked back. The E : D milky way is so much more lively when you're in a group making your own E : D story! - Wings release has enhanced the depth and enjoyability of gameplay vastly.

I'm not sure if FD may already be aware (I assume yes). But apparently your success has gotten noticed.
.
One of my old corp mates from EvE mentioned last night. Apparently a large group of players from multiple corps on EvE are deliberately targeting Elite, this was going on before to a limited degree but has apparently reached a much more serious and organized level since the Steam launch. The intent seems to be to run Elite into the ground before it can take off. The plan is apparently to target and grief the living crap out of people, new players specifically until people quit and the game dies off.
.
I'd imagine eventually they'll lose interest and give up, but from the sounds of things you'll have a very large group (by Elite standards) of players from outside of the Elite community targeting your player base.
.
Anyway, for what its worth.

So they are going to spend money to kill the game? #seemslegit

Besides, being a toon in EVE with tens of thousands of skill points means squat in ED. It just means they played the game long enough, not that they are experts at space sims. The mechanics of ED are not particularly complicated but the lack of a financial transfer option means each person will have to work their own way up to ships that can actually shoot something, and then learn how to do it well. I foresee a lot of easy meat coming my way :)))))

I'm betting some of those EVE players will like the more relaxed atmosphere of ED and stick around. I have played EVE for over three years.. Unfortunately most of my assets are in lowsec right next to nullsec and its a PITA to get expensive ships out without an escort. Also, two of my toons will get shot on sight if they enter high sec space...

Anyways. ED and EVE are very different games. I wish ED had some of the mechanics of EVE, but almost never miss the non-stop teeth-grinding seat-of-your-pants fighting, running, fleeting.

I played Eve for awhile, I know the type of idiot that would do this.... But really, spend money on a game just to kill it??

Sssoo.. A bunch of E: D noobies in sidewinders are going to achieve what, exactly? A single mid spec Vulture pilot who semi-knows how to manage systems will deal with them in a few minutes... It'd take them a few weeks at least before they become a viable threat to anyone bar themselves...

Z...

I love the irony of their little scheme. Buying the game in order to kill the game. I guess they put the "moron" into the "oxymoron" right there, lol

Omnia rumores veri sunt

What a long thread which opened, "Apparently my friend heard that..." or something to that effect.\

*edit*
Not that I question the OP's honesty, just that hearsay is hearsay

Think of it this way - in a week or two they'll either have the equipment and skills to put up a serious challenge for other players, or more likely they'll just lose interest and move on. Either way, it's not a bad thing.

If they're really dedicated, they can help Mobius' recruitment drive peak beyond the current player base of EvE. Wouldn't that be hilarious. ;)

Good thing Elite is not Eve and has the Solo button :) If we should be worried, it is about people asking to make Elite another Eve.

i wouldn't mind having more and way bigger ships for me to play with, including carriers that i could use as mobile bases. also, mining in Eve is way better imo and the possibility to build my own station with some tools in it to craft stuff there would be cool in Elite, too (ok, building complexes like in X³TC would be even better ^^)

I'd love to see it in a single-play game, but "online" means you would have to defend that stuff 24x7. No, thanks! (unless this stuff can disappear into Solo with you, then OK :) )

well, it shouldn't be attackable. or maybe the stations would have turrets like all the other stations and outposts. but yeah, just taking it with me into my own solo game or into a private group would be fine too :)

I'd build a station at Sag A*, and we'd have blackjack and hookers.

So much about the premise of the OP doesn't make sense. For that reason, I don't believe there's any truth in it, but if there is then as many others have already stated, it can only be a good thing - more money for FD, thanks very much.

As I said in another thread....

Simply implement fugitive status for murders (ie. destroying ships within controlled, non-anarchy space) thus preventing the murderers or griefers from docking at any stations associated with the faction that issues the bounty and fugitive status.

This way they can grief one player, then they can't land anywhere for refuelling and rearming. If they want to spend 50-60$ doing a few griefing hits and then spend hours finding a safe haven... then go for it.

But, this is a good incentive for Frontier to take a hard look at the currently pointless murder bounty the game has.

Implement Fugitive status like old Elite, now rather than later.
