It only takes a few words from an experienced player to a newbie being blown up a lot in Open Play, and they're sorted. Like,

So there are many alternatives to "leaving the game" or "leaving Open Play".![]()
Well said, Elvis.
*** Your compilation of distilled tips for E : D n00bs ought to be turned into a sticky and put in forum for new players. ***
+1 Rep (I tried to give you rep, but the forum wouldn't let me)
One thing I'd add about a new CMDR joining a group is that the more established players are usually more than willing to give a helping hand to ease the grind of getting up to a decent ship (say to a Viper or Cobra from anything smaller) - There's also that bit of backup should a griefer be encountered in open play
In addition, FD would do very well to implement the suggestion that has repeatedly come up in this thread which is to spawn new CMDRs in a much wider variety of locations
As one who tends to prefer solo games and was one of those who was disappointed that FD backed away from delivering true offline mode, my 'tuppence-worth' is:
* As a new E : D player (but most certainly not new to Elite), I'd come across half the tactical solutions offered above and quickly worked out the other half
* When the first lot of griefers were routinely hanging around n00b spawn systems and popular Rares stations, I made the decision to implement the first long term solution above, which was a good thing
* I'm now glad there wasn't an offline mode to begin with, since I stumbled across and subsequently joined a group of like-minded players and thus implemented the second long term solution
As for that last point, I'm having a blast and haven't looked back. The E : D milky way is so much more lively when you're in a group making your own E : D story! - Wings release has enhanced the depth and enjoyability of gameplay vastly.
