its a sandbox game, you have you use your imagination and make your own fun with the tools the game provides.
That is the problem.
The game
doesn't provide
anything except a few ships and grindy professions/tasks/missions.
In the end, the only real goal here is to grind to the next step.
Be it a ship, a rank, a 'community goal' or whatever.
Please, spare me the usual
"muh tis no insturnt urction gurme u needz imurginaturn, duh", cause this excuse is not only
not true, it is also getting quite old and every time I read it, I have to sigh over the 'fans' ignorance.
I understand that for many people it is hard to give up their illusions that make them feel good.
But for me, personally,
the truth is what matters and the truth is, Elite is a
masterpiece when it comes to portraying soulless, empty and repetitive game play.
The immersion it
does offer (stunning visuals, fantastic audio, ...) is -
for me - quickly ruined by stupid game mechanics and features that are clearly tailored towards the console gamer crowd... simple and quick action, non-stop hand holding and zero consequences (except some 'specialists' fly and lose ships they can't afford - still my favorite.)
I hope 1.3 changes a lot, but I am almost certain, it won't.
the problem isn't a lack of ships or something, the core is simply unpolished and empty.
One of my favorite examples is that there are no faces in the game, literally.
You fly empty ships into empty stations, fight empty battleships or do missions for empty, non-existent factions.
And sorry to break it to some but... GalNET doesn't cut it here, not at all.
Of course, that is just my point of view/opinion.
