I tried against Derath, the only one I found. I failed.
Every other CMDRs seemd to be on SOLO because I waited hours and hours where they were supposed to be (the TOP 5 showed them moving, I concluded they were playing).

The bounties systems wasn't perfect. But it was here. Does this is a reason to just to put away this gameplay option ?

PS: Don't mess with me. I didn't hurt you... not yet.

That springs the question: how often are the Top 5 Bounties boards updated in game? I'm guessing it must be quite dynamic if they show their current location and it actually changes.

From watching them I'd guess it's every 15 mins to an hour as that's the speed other things update (top contributors on community goals for example).

They should only show cmdrs in open if you're in open or group if you're in group that are actually online at the time according to your game mode. You should only be shown players that you can actually track down to make pvp bounty hunting viable.

I think you misinterpreted my genuine question. My reason for asking, which perhaps I could have clarified better, was wondering if anyone has ever cashed in on a legitimate large in-game bounty (other than that video of Derath buying the farm); due to the fact that bounties are easy to pay off, or can be hidden in solo / group making them impossible to go after.

The majority of threads on here where people talk about making a reasonable living from BH as opposed to trading, refer to pve RES farming, not CMDR hunting.

Yeah, I think this would be welcomed and a really good change! There is no point in displaying Commanders that are currently playing in Solo or Group in Top 5 Bounties.

IIRC this current fix only applies to local bounties, not major factions - it's meant to stop smugglers with huge prices on their head exploiting illegal goods fines to rack up major fines that become bounties. So those aren't the criminals you're looking for anyway because they'd never let you shoot them down in the first place unless you paid them first.

So an actual murderous pirate who has MDKed his way to a big bounty (even if it's all in one system) will still have his big bounty and will still be fully claimable in one go (aside from the 1 mill local faction limit).

Honestly this in no way is going to affect any big paydays that you actually stood a chance in hell of claiming in the first place.

That shouldn't be the case as per the known issue in the op - when they try to claim the bounty they'll only get the million.

Michael

Still being sold. Maybe you need to do another pass on the server.

*UPDATE* maybe not... this person must leave fake feedback for themselves. They're apparently working on a solution... should be interesting to see how they workaround the limits.

I'd love to see their announcements out there.

Dear lazy cheaters.

We're sorry we cannot accommodate you with the credits your so rightly deserve via real cash (that in no way helps the developers) at this time. Though the market has spoken and you can't be with putting effort into your play, the developers have selfishly decided to limit just how many credits we noble entrepreneurs can offer you.

Rest assured we here at CreditCorp are working around the clock to find ways around these roadblocks. Until then, sit back, eat some more Cheetos, and pretend you give a rats ass about actually playing the game.

Sincerely

Hacky McDouchebag

P.S. Ayn Rand Rules

The outcome is potentially quite ironic.

I hope there are plans to remove the exploit money from the system, and some consequences for the gold sellers.

I can't recall anything like that.

Read Edward Lewis's 'server side update' (known issues) - first page this thread...

- - - Updated - - -

FIRST: It's exCiting
SECOND: Your lack of comprehension of what this fix brings it's really sad. I hope in real life you're more careful about what you say.

EDIT: It actually makes me think that you may have have had some gain from the mechanism and now your toy is broken.
But I've been wrong before.

Yeah I know what you mean..

I hope this is a temporary bandaid until you have this under control because 1m is a joke compared to the effort it takes to hunt down a pirate player who does not want to engage you.

From what I understood, one of the reasons the criminality changes were announced (amongst many others) was to curb the phenomenon referred to by many as "griefing". Sandro himself said that the purpose and the philosophy of the changes was to prevent players from staying in a single system and killing everything in sight, without any real repercussion. That players would be constrained to leave a system where they committed crimes (by accumulating a large bounty there, and by the danger of having to pay the fine for that bounty in the event of death).

If the biggest repercussion for criminal activity is a paltry 1 million credits, the criminality changes completely lose their purpose. Heck, I make a million credits in a single trade run right now.

Imagine that a player could just fly to Eravate, drop at Ackerman Market, gank every Steam player's starter Sidewinder (you know there's plenty), and if he ever gets killed by.. anything, it's just 1 million which he can make in 15 minutes of trading.

Teach me to make a million in 15 min please!

I really dont know why they just dont enable two games slots - one for a solo game and one for an open game with absolutely no translation allowed between the two. The player makes the decision before he starts the game and that's it. Players could still affect the open game whilst playing solo but anything you earn or buy is restricted to use in that mode only.

+1 from me. (Except of course that we'd also need a game slot for private group play. Things might get tricky there: Should we have one slot per group we're a member of?)

When you die, your escape capsule rescue / new clone should end up at the nearest station. That way criminals would be in danger of having to pay their bounty when tooling about in a jurisdiction where they are wanted. It makes no sense that you teleport back to the last place were you were docked. It just gives an easy escape from having to pay up.

+1 from me. Except that we need to somehow find a solution to the resulting problem that a pirate player may get stuck at a station with insufficient credits to pay his way out, while he still may have valuable assets stored at other stations. Maybe allowing to sell off a stored ship from any station in the galaxy might be a way to go. (And if you still don't have enough credits to pay your way out... well, you kind of lose and need to delete your commander and start from square one again.)

so the changes have been pretty much utterly worthless, been able to rack up 13m bounty in a few hours. ticket opened for the devs as a lot of stuff seems to be broken. Ticket #00000051071

i would say as long as you can get high fines for cargo the fine->bounty will be exploited. best to keep it as a fine that would need to be paid off in case of spawning in a station that belongs to faction which issued the fine.
bounties should be only given for killing NPCs and players. this might still be farmed but the time it would take would most likely put off the credit sellers.

Did you have someone kill you to see if the 13mil bounty turned in to a 1mil bounty on collection? They're supposed to keep the same display for the time being but only cash out at 1mil.

Not calling you out btw as I know you are a legit player and have watched your progress on the bounty boards with respect :)

nope, no one got me yet :D i would say the total bounty now would be 14mil (13 farmed + 1 the cut down post server change), but the player would most likely see the old bounty as well which was around 20-30m if i remember correctly. frankly i dont know how that would work out, my understanding is that for player whose bounties have been cut down to 1m would show the old bounty if taken down by another player but the player would only claim the amount of bounty which was gained post server changes.

As it's a server side change I think everyone will see the original bounty values even you until death where it will then be converted to 1mil. This means the bounty boards will still show all the old values as well.

This also means you could go on today and rack up a 100mil bounty and everyone would see it as such until you were actually killed and it was cashed in. The player who cashed it in would be the only one to see the change when they look at the bulletin board contacts panel.

BBs have been updated as well, yesterday they were showing bounties of 1m, today i jumped on the list once my fines turned into bounties. the only way to know is if a dev provides some info or someone to take me out to see how the system works. anyone wants to claim a bounty for free? :D
