What do you think DB meant by this?

What we SHOULD have asked, with hindsight is whether there are non stellar objects in game already that no one has seen yet or discovered?

I think we should start looking for ship graveyards, probes still en route from Sol to the nearest few stars and similar.

To the question "When will there be non-celestial things to discover in deep space?" (Posted by SlackR), David Braben (Chairman & Founder) answered "There already are... ;-)".

and to "I did say "deep" space... Those probes are still in the sol system so I'm hoping he meant other things to find!", David did confirm "Yes. Other things...[...]has been there since Wings...".

Damn, I have never heard anything about that!
Has anybody of you, Commanders, already discovered/encountered such things? If you have and for some reason believe their locations should remain a secret (please don't tell me these are in Unidentified Signal Sources you may sometimes find... :), I believe the community would appreciate to get a few hints as of how/where to search for them!

PS: I am posting here since I believe David will not provide more details in the thread, specific to powerPlay, where these were originally mentioned.

It is intriguing... DB did suggest that Thargoids would be in the game during KS, 'if we can find them'..

I like to think there's something pretty awesome in some system several dozen "explorers" have honked through but not actually explored. That'd be quite amusing. :)

If you browse the game files, somewhere under the factions "overlays" there's a Thargoid faction......

There are (as already discovered) - a couple of models for ancient probes and then there are a few things I can't make head nor tail of - will keep hunting out there in space in case I come across it. Did I hear a rumour from Drew that his book had a hint in it?

Ancient Probes are Voyager 1 & 2 No?

Drew's book theories can be found here

Its like searching for a needle in million haystacks - its going to take a while. I would hazard a guess that it will be a destroyed Thargoid ship or artifact of Thargoid origin but finding it wont make any difference to anything. It's a teaser that is all.

And yes of course Thargoids are coming. It wouldnt be an Elite game without them would it? Are they already here - that is the actual question. I suspect not, when they actually arrive we will know it pretty quickly.

Every persistent multiplayer online game that I've played, since 1995 that has made a claim like this "oh, yes, it's mysterious, you just have to find it" has been false, in my experience.

Unless the developers are specific, it's marketing/lies/hype/vaporware. They think or say what they think might be coming in the future, but it's not in the game right now. Steve Danuser & the Froglok debacle? I'm looking at you. ;)

So, I'll be the first to throw down the gauntlet: I don't believe him. At all. IMO: He's either twisting words to sound clever, or alluding to a future feature that will need to be patched in to be active. It's not active today, at this moment.

I think you might be on to something. It's a perfect lie, too... because there is no possibility for us to check whether he says the truth. We can't visit and explore all 400 billion star systems to see whether we find something. And by the time someone finds something he can still say "well it has been there since 1.2".

Any hackers here who can check the game files or client for info?

6 billion already?

I think 1.5%, i.e. 6bn stars is most unlikely : Assuming each explorers doing 60 days exploration trips, 3hours a day, using 2 minutes per systems (which is for pass-through)*

*(most explorers will use more time)

you would need 1,1M explorers => certainly not the case '^^

I would be surprised if more than 0.02% of the galaxy has been explored.
