What do you think DB meant by this?

I think 1.5%, i.e. 6bn stars is most unlikely : Assuming each explorers doing 60 days exploration trips, 3hours a day, using 2 minutes per systems (which is for pass-through)*

*(most explorers will use more time)

you would need 1,1M explorers => certainly not the case '^^

I would be surprised if more than 0.02% of the galaxy has been explored.

Given that about 800,000 systems had been visited at the last estimate back in about February, and given the established exploration habits of the average Commander as described on the forums, one could estimate that figure to be about 3 million systems now at the very most - or an absolutely massive, er, 0.00075% of the Galaxy.

Elite has a history of fluff - the fabled generation ship which never existed for instance.

I would take this with a red giant sized lump of salt.

Now that's what I want to see in this game: a massive lump of salt the size of a red giant star. Fdevs, make it happen. :D

Have not read whole thread but....
What happened to the comets. I remember DB saying back in Beta that they were in, just were not switched on. Anyone seen one yet?

well whats the point of comet? do u travel in supercruise and crash into it to save a planet?

I think you might be on to something. It's a perfect lie, too... because there is no possibility for us to check whether he says the truth. We can't visit and explore all 400 billion star systems to see whether we find something. And by the time someone finds something he can still say "well it has been there since 1.2".

Any hackers here who can check the game files or client for info?
It was alluded to earlier in this thread, but no, aside from the mention of a Thargoid faction in the game files, there's nothing.
Hence my opinion that this is a massive snipe hunt, today.

The voyager probe was never announced, someone just found it out there in space. I think it's highly unlikely that that's everything seen and done. A USS in the SOL system is pretty low-hanging fruit. Not hard to imagine that there's branches that aren't so low.

Mr. Braben specifically spoke about "deep" space. He also said that whatever there is to discover, it's here since 1.2.

Given that, if something has been placed, it's probably been placed near a landmark of some kind (Sag A*, Annihilator, Thor's Eye, Nebula, Forbidden Permit System).

Mh, heard that there are forbidden sectors, is that right? What happens if you try to jump to one?

I was reading a little bit. And I have a little idea, but need to check it. Bwahaha until then I will look like silly looney junkie who drunk and smoked too much :D

edit: there was also mention in some of patch notes roughly saying "added something into universe" but I can't find it. Anyone can remember?

I do remember it. I wandered off to explore the vicinity of Polaris, didn't find anything. I'm now in the middle of the Pleiades to see if there's something worth seeing, except those no faction NPCs.

I guess this might be related, or might not. Perhaps it's a breadcrumb, on a very long trail? Perhaps it's nothing? I will leave that up to you guys to decide. Graphical glitch, or something else?:

Is everybody sure it's the Thargoids?

Because .......

I've read/skimmed this thread and got a couple of things to mention.

Last week I was near a planetary nebula 19,500ly from Sol. I'd travelled the 170,000 ls to the secondary star to scan the objects there. When I finished scanning the last body, I started doing spins to record video and images. When I switched back to the cockpit from debug camera, there was a USS 90,000 ls back in the direction I'd come from. It didn't have a description, but it did have an icon like a digital sound wave. I jumped to SC but it disappeared from right in front of me after about 2 minutes (I'd travelled about 1000ls).

Someone suggested revisiting systems that were previously SPR. I logged 18 systems just below the Crescent Nebula that were Permit Required when I visited in January. I checked the Galaxy Map this evening and they're not saying Permit Required. That doesn't mean that they're not locked off. I tried to jump into a couple of these systems at the time, but the client crashed to menu with a transaction server error.

Here's the list of systems in Crescent Nebula that were inaccessible in January. I'm currently 26 Kylies away so if someone is closer, feel free to check them out.
