ok i have to admit, there may be a problem

Weren't you trying to exploit the RES spawing systen to get favourable ships to slaughter? Sounds like you guys got your just deserves!

You could always drop him a few tonnes of palladium if he's seriously out of pocket since its pretty much your fault for leaving him anyway!

this is where you have it wrong Sandmann. you assume there's a "victim" in this circumstance.

'emotional blackmail' 'emotional intimidation' 'blaming the victim' these are all terms that should be reserved for very dire situations. Some dude's friend getting his free ship popped and whining about it on a message board is not one of those.

please, check yourself.

Some folks on here do, clearly, have some real life issues. If you think some meanie in a game is a reflection of how the world is... you may need some help.
Just a guess here but those here with real life issues (per you), coincidentally, do not share your views on the game and how it should be played? I too think a lot people in this thread have real life issues, however, since a mod warning I use <redacted> to describe those manifesting certain unnameable pathologies. However, I have a hunch that we think it's a different subset of players who <redacted> <redacted> <redacted>.

it's really not that hard if you have a friend or two (which this guy apparently has.)

no, you're probably a nice guy in real life. we need more of you in the real world.

this ain't the real world though. it's a game where you need to watch your back.

That is true, but, to have it where you can just attack far weaker ships without any real consequence is very unbalanced.

Look, if I go all psycho killer I expect retaliation. Getting a bounty and knowing that people will be trying to get me is part of the fun. But taking on a single ship that I obviously overpower, there is no fun in that.

Now a swarm of ships of lower grade, that might be a challenge.

A lot of folks I keep seeing claim, oh it is Elite Dangerous, expect that stuff in open.. Really? From this instance I would say those folks should be playing Wack-A-Mole. I bet they stop though if I put Tyson behind them with an aluminium bat and they will start screaming how unfair it is because they only have a sponge hammer. Because that is what they are doing, whacking new players in far less powerful ships. I will bet they are spawn campers in some games, and probably campers in others...

Just talked with one of my kids, and he says you guys are right and I am wrong, it's a game.... Excuse me while I have some humble pie....

watch out, folks... we're getting reasonable up in here!

Now you're attempting to imply that I have emotional issues because I dislike these tactics? Seriously?

The OP's friend was in a starter sidey that got popped by someone in a python. Sure it's legal coz they're in open, but that doesn't stop it being pathetic behaviour. It'll get addressed soon enough in the upcoming "crime special" from MB that we've been promised, till then groups are a better place for noobz to get their "space legs" before venturing out with the sharks.

I really don't mind if you want to continue attacking me for speaking out against pathetic behaviour like this... I'm a big boy and I can take it, and you really say more about yourself than anyone else by doing so.

yup... you sound completely settled in.

YES! This is why I play open. If I get set on by a bigger stronger player or players.....maybe I get killed...maybe I run for my life screaming like a little girl. Either way it's way more exciting than just bumping around grinding credits. I'll take excitement over boredom any day.

Yes, and this is why many of us happily play Solo...

you accused me of 'blaming the victim' and 'emotional blackmail'. two terms usually reserved for sexual assault or intimidation.

quit acting like you're being abused. it's not cute and you're not fooling anyone. it's a game. get better.

I figured out in 2000 that any multiplayer game with open/any-time PvP is going to be heavily populated by people whose sole purpose is to grief as many other people as possible. Then there will be another large population of griefer apologists who will defend their dev-given right to be griefer s.

Elite: Dangerous does nothing to disprove this.

I see a lot of people, on both sides of this discussion, going out of their way to insult eachother without actually using swearwords. One post positively stands out for me though (coincidence will have it that it's also one of the very, very few here that doesn't try to passive-agressively insult) :

Maybe he just didn't like the idea of noobs in sidewinders collecting huge bounties from ships they could in no way kill on their own. You are essentially powerleveling him by killing large bounty ships for him. Maybe he is against that.
If that were the case, would that change "the principle of it" for you?

Maybe he was roleplaying a member of the pirate faction in the system you were in. Or maybe he was roleplaying as a fed in an empire system, etc. There are plenty of reasons why one might want to kill a sidey sitting alone just outside a RES.

Maybe he just wanted your friend to learn a lesson, or maybe he wanted you to learn one, about how to better safeguard your friend when you are in space that could easily be hostile.

Or maybe it was just a random act of violence. Does it really matter? It certainly sounds fun. It had to have been exciting for you to try to save your friend from an actual real credible threat instead of an NPC, and I'm sure you will know how to prevent someone from doing this in the future (stick together)

It is certainly more fun and excitement then you can ever expect to have playing alone in easy mode. I certainly wouldn't want to make these types of encounters impossible or more difficult in open, they are the reason I only play there, the uncertainty of it is the fun..

+rep for that

Honestly, I've been playing regularly for a year now. I've had a grand total of two (2) occasions of people interdicting me for the lulz. Once I got my butt handed to me, the other time they managed to jump out with 5% hull.

To say this game is rife with griefers/gankers is disingenuous at best, and usually is said to cover the fact that you feel butthurt about losing a battle (with no insurance to cover the losses making it worse.)

Play in open, have fun, keep insurance handy, and get better. That's the mantra I've been using.

GTA Online has the passive mode, most other games have PVE servers etc.
ED has no way to play with others in the open universe, private groups don't count obviously, without being subjected to possible grief or PVP.

But then again its no fun to only be able to pick targets that can fight back...

Oh please. These terms don't only relate to sexual assault. They are very commonly used in any case where a stronger person attacks a weaker person the attempts to blame the weaker person for it. Are you seriously trying to say that a python attacking a noob in a sidey was anywhere near a fair fight or a pvp challenge? I accused you of it because that's exactly what you did

I called the behaviour pathetic, and I'll go further and call it cowardly. I suggested the OP take his friend to a group where he can learn the game in relative safety. You first accused me of "crying", then went on to imply that I had emotional problems. I'd call that an attack. Not being cute, I'm being accurate. If you don't like it, stop giving me ammunition.

Saying someone won a PvP encounter by killing a starter sidey in a python is like claiming to be a war hero because you once punched a kitten. No amount of "it's called elite DANGEROUS" or "get better noob" is going to make it seem any less pathetic.

You know what's even more pathetic? Whining about your friend losing a free sidewinder.

Alright, I've said my piece and I'm starting to get aggressive which isn't a good look.

I'll be in Empire space if anyone wants to take a crack at me. Cmdr Jughed Jones.

(come at me sandmann, we can settle it in space!) ;)

I know galaxy s6 is a nice phone but it's still not powerful enough to run ED, and they don't like me bringing my gaming rig to work. Oh and prowess at PvP doesn't make you right, that's just another form of attempted intimidation.
