My thoughts exactly. This is how he did it, for sure. I hope I'm not getting in the realm of cheating with this, because I only intended this to help us. I did notice that the audio files for the artifact include a special file, an AUX. The only other ones that have those are the Voyager probes, and the NAV beacon (of all things). I wasn't successful in getting those to swap, but I'm actually kind of glad. The hunt is still on! :D

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1010\Win32\Items <- models and audio

Edit: They use the folder names to grab the items, so changing them is all it takes

If at first you don't succeed... HACK IT!!! - No don't, this is way more fun.

To seed planets with... WHAT? :D

Thargoids!

Where's that planet that has been deemed "off limits" due to "plague" - could it be the beginning of an invasion? I think we need to double check.

It's interesting for certain!

I'd be cautious about swapping files over, that would certainly not be the intended way that FD expect us to solve this. That AUX bit is interesting though - voyager probes might emit that SSTV signal (has anyone tried that with those??) and the NAV beacons emit that morse signal...

It's creative, but not the approved method.

I must admit I am a little uncomfortable with the method of this discovery and wish someone had just found one for our first look at it.

However! As the audio was not revealed it hasn't ruined the hunt. I would ask that people DONT go figuring a way to listen to the audio (even if thats possible).

I have no idea how this was done as it is way beyond my ability but we should not take it further.

I would also hope that the moderators/Frontier team look kindly on this "incident", as it provides no in game advantage to anyone whatsoever (it's not like we could spot one from a distance!), at very worst it's an unauthorised spoiler.

Perhaps some level of encrypting game files might be a good idea though guys to avoid something bigger being leaked, if that's even possible. :)

Ninjed (sort of) by Michael.....Nice to know you're still reading this lol ;)

To be fair I say its like Big Foot and then someone posts a 2 minute interview with Big Foot telling his life story. Go figure ;)

I took my Python into many Signal Sources and specifically also Strong Signal Sources - but apart from being able to snatch AI Relics straight from the noses of 3 Anacondas :D I didn't find what folks were looking for.

Specifically checked a freeman Faction System (Commodities Market identical to that an unfettered Faction) that also has a black market - but outside of making quite some smuggling cash and alot of bounties from attacking Pirates - nothing.

That thing IMHO must be both
- very rare spawn
- tied to specific Systems (i.e. GALnet candidates).

The many unknowns of that search are really quite frustrating. Knowing you could basically be in the right spot - but still miss it over many days isn't a very motivating factor :p

Ok. So, I haven't been to the voyager probes, but if we were to make the assumption that these canisters are treated logically the same way as the voyager probes, then they would have the same discovery mechanic.

so, how did we find the probes - they are in a specific system (Sol), at a specific distance, and (if I remember correctly) they appear on the scanner as a USS but with a different description?

this then ties in with Michaels and Davids' hints at 'something out there that is non-celestial'.

I have doubt abot this:
1: the model is named "CargoUnknownArtifact" so it is a sort of cargo scoopable object, not like the probe.
2: It is for sure an item because it has a price.

It is not definitively something like a probe.

I totally agree. I'm sorry that I spoiled reveal of this, I didn't think of it that way. I was tired of getting fooled by these hoaxes and just wanted to see what it looked like. I was really hesitant on posting it, but thought you guys would like to see it, too.

Michael, you guys are so amazing. Please keep making things like this. I can't stop thinking about this! It's too exciting!!! :D Thank you for everything!

I'd agree that it's bit disappointing to see it this way, but it is what it is. Hopefully one of us can find it in game before someone else is able to obtain the audio directly from the files, because to do so would be quite the cheat (assuming the audio leads to something). All that aside, I really am curious to hear what Redeye has to say, since the object's so distinctive looking I can't imagine he'd have just sold the ones he found, or at least wouldn't remember the differing appearance.

Even with everything I said above, I honestly don't think there are many of us who would say anything other than "thank you", to be honest we needed a glimmer of hope it was getting to feel like a lost cause ;)

Oh and also may I be the first to say "IN YOUR FACE NAY SAYERS AND NON BELIEVERS!" LOL

That's a joke btw.........well....mostly ;)

But it hasn't turned up in any Signal Sources as far as we know - apart from Redeye's claim. but we've all found 'Ancient Artefacts' in Signal Sources.

I'd say there can be only one of these things, like the voyager probes - which are fixed and in logical positions.

Wow this thread has moved on. It only had 6 pages last night

I have just got back from spending hours looking round the surrounding systems to Peregrina. I got a cargo scanner and went back to scan that huge Peregrina military fleet in the adjoining system. The T9's had nothing of interest in it but it does look like that the system is gearing up for a dust up with someone. I will keep scanning WSS around the area and working towards a permit.

I did see some bloke called Tangy Red Smurf docking at Kessler station though ;)
