Please could you update the 1st post with pad sizes for the systems requiring permits, as I arrived at HIP 18609 for the Peregrina Permit in my 'conda and there were only outposts :(
Just a minor setback for me but if this is the case for any of the other systems, it would be nice to have the information in advance.

Shalzarr...

Sorry Shalzarr I'm at work and can't access that info, when I get home I have a family and my slim time is invested in searching. Feel free to PM the info though and I will add it if you like.

I am at work also, so maybe I should be working instead of reading lol. I am hoping to take part in the search over the bank holiday weekend, so I will send any updates / discoveries to you.

WSS (Weak Signal Sources) only ever contain a destroyed ship, and canisters of none-tradeable items (i.e items you cannot buy at a market) such as (but not limited to)

Rebel Transmissions
Black Box Recorders
Ancient Artefacts
Toxic Waste
etc etc.

Not quite true: while exploring I've hit many WSSs where there is a single small ship (cobra, sidewinder, etc), usually unshielded and just flying around. It made me wish I had a cargo scanner and weapons with me!

Last night and this morning I'd say I had more single, clean Haulers than canisters in WSSs. Normal commodity cargo.

That's interesting - I've not encountered that. Anyone else experienced this?

Ah, I can see many people have. :p

I was tempted to do that the other day, swap to model ovl files to another object, I think that is really legit :-O omg

I was actually surprised it matched the other video from that Hoax guy. I wasn't expecting that, since I was all over trying to get a better quality image out of that SSTV signal chase he put us on. But with the ability to do something like this, we're going to have to be even more skeptical of other videos with the right audio.

Now just need to find the real thing and get a good sound sample off it.

Looks like that last Reddit vid post may not have been a hoax (unless they did the same thing) Only the effects look different (Blue sparkles appear around it in the vid)

Dominathan, could you provide a bit more detail as to how you located that 3D model and what it's named? If it is in the game files, than the earlier post from r/elite mystery solver might be real, but it's far more likely he or she just did what you did in order to continue their tomfoolery. Also, if you're still on the thread Redeye, can you let us know if the unknown artefact containers you found looked liked that model when you scooped them, or did they look like every other cargo container?

The game model files are in C:\Program Files (x86)\Frontier\EDLaunch\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1001\Win32\Items\Models\CargoUnknownArtifact

The are 3 ovs model files and 1 ovl file (the names match the ones found in

C:\Program Files (x86)\Frontier\EDLaunch\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1001\Win32\Items\Models\CargoContainerToxic

So Im guessing they just swapped them over (I was tempted to do this myself but didn't want to spoil the supprise)

That is why the sound and item name is that of a toxic waste container.

I suspect anyone whos got some time now could try this and confirm

My thoughts exactly. This is how he did it, for sure. I hope I'm not getting in the realm of cheating with this, because I only intended this to help us. I did notice that the audio files for the artifact include a special file, an AUX. The only other ones that have those are the Voyager probes, and the NAV beacon (of all things). I wasn't successful in getting those to swap, but I'm actually kind of glad. The hunt is still on! :D

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1010\Win32\Items <- models and audio

Edit: They use the folder names to grab the items, so changing them is all it takes

It's interesting for certain!

I'd be cautious about swapping files over, that would certainly not be the intended way that FD expect us to solve this. That AUX bit is interesting though - voyager probes might emit that SSTV signal (has anyone tried that with those??) and the NAV beacons emit that morse signal...
