Soontill Relics, the Regor Permit Sector and DB's cryptic hints....

If this relic is thargoid based, I wonder if it would be found near ammonia based planets? Maybe it's a seeding vessel that hunts out new planets? Maybe it's a terraforming device that turns nitrogen planets into ammonia? I'm going to spend a few hours trying to see if peregrina, he bo, lhs 412, and the systems that Redeye mentioned have anything in common as far as celestial bodies are concerned. Again if any one wants to group for SSS raids add me @ CMDR Dread Naught in game.

I just hopped to Leonard Nimoy station, looking for T7s. Didn't really find anything, but didn't have much time to search, either. I honestly believe the trailer is our biggest hint, and that we should follow it. It being randomly in some T9 with no history doesn't make sense for a game with such a rich story going on like Elite. A T7, which was shown in the video, who's named after Ishmael, the fulfillment of divine promise, seems more likely. Unfortunately, I've got business to attend to at the moment. I'll check back in when I return in the morning. Good luck, and hope my observations mean something!

and for the conspiracy there is a faction called Thargoids :)

Makes sense. FFE endings suggested the end of a war with Thargoids and 'species interchange'.
F: D have kinda re-booted the story and Thargoids are a thing of the past and forgotten.
Peregrina could still be relevant due to the 'plague' that is there and the Thargoid link with Alien Artefacts.
This Alien race could still be Thargoid but for the humans in 3301, this will be the 1st time they have learnt of them and now they are living in our dimension.

I'm starting to feel like Seaman Jones from The Hunt for Red October trying to listen for every off sound in space.

There is probably a class in Flight school.
Identified stellar objects by their emissions when synthesized by the ship.
I do like leaving the ship adrift somewhere and just listing to the background noise

Let's not kid ourselves, the Imperial and Federal governments and upper echelons know the Thargoids are a thing. You don't lose information like that in a technological age like ours over anything short of mass extinction. They've willingly allowed the Thargoids to become a boogie man story pilots tell eachother to discredit the threat and keep the public calm and composed. Chances are INRA still exists in some dormant capacity, or at the least cooperation agreements between the Feds and Imperials in the event of a Thargoid resurgence.

Michael implied in one of his videos that the Thargoid threat humanity faced (the one we nearly lost against) was merely an advanced scouting party, and that the real Thargoid threat will return wondering happened to their dudes. Dudettes. Whatever.

The Anarchic Faction in HE BO has the Outbreak State, I think the News Article could have just been in reference to that.

Do we know if it matters if we're in open vs solo? I'm off work and can finally go back to searching. Anyone need a good vulture pilot for some SSSs?

I just wanted to say that I find this all fascinating! I spent several hours in Timocani yesterday trying to follow Redeye's lead and didn't find anything, except pirate Mary Bell who quickly destroyed my ship. But I've since read a better description of what Redeye was doing and plan to farm WSS as soon as I can. Unfortunately I'm away from home this weekend, but love reading all the updates on here. I can't wait to get home and jump back into the search!

Redeye said he was playing in solo at the time. Sounds like it probably doesn't matter where you're playing in.

Spent the third night in Peregrina, but I'm pretty sure what we're looking for isn't necessarily there. There's no obvious points of interest (a la Voyagers). The moon mentioned in the galaxy map description isn't particularly interesting (terraformed, no detail scanner onboard to inspect it. Despite having been close to it, I haven't been shot on sight in other systems as the description claims). Neither outpost in the system has any special missions (that I've seen) nor any special contacts. The SSes have all been pretty standard. I spent ~3 hours trolling through all of them (scanning ships in SSS, hitting up every WSS & actually collecting the floating cargo, dropping into USS & the menageries there) with no artefacts of any kind.

I'm going to leave the system & head for greener pastures. My "home" system is Aulin, which is a single jump away from Leonard Nimoy. If Timocani (sp?) is on the way, I may try a couple days of hunting there on the way, unless someone directs me elsewhere.

An upshot to this is that scavenging WSSes is kinda relaxing (low stress, just scoop) & at least a small credit flow. Going to try experimenting with taking weak signal missions while hunting next.

On the AMA, DB specifically talked about "things" in the "deep" space, referring to something out from the civ space.
I think that Timocani, Peregrina LHS412 and other are not involved in the search

Apologies for the double post and replying to myself, but in the Wings trailer the person carrying the UA is named Ishamel... Which is close to Ishmael, and important religious figure (Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ishmael). Could be clues here. Key facts:

Ishmael translated:It is translated literally as "God has hearkened", suggesting that "a child so named was regarded as the fulfillment of a divine promise. David Braben and the dev team is the closest thing to divinity for E:D, they said somewhere that Thargoids would be in the game at launch in a Kickstarter comment, and they promised stuff for exploration.

"Genesis 16:7-16 describes the naming of Ishmael, and Yahweh's promise to Hagar concerning Ishmael and his descendants. This occurred at the well of Beer-lahai-roi, located in the desert region between Abraham’s settlement and Shur."

Could be important stuff here guys! Perhaps the name of the Well is a system name? Once again, good luck!

If connected to anything I'd say it was Moby . Obsessed with the hunt for something? Anyone? ;)

While that may be true, Redeye has been seemingly reliable with his story. There will deffinetly be other things out there but as far as UA goes I remain hopeful that farming WSS is the way to go.

Yes, we are definitely a bunch of Captain Ahab's at the moment.

Although I prefer Kahn's Star Trek II version...

“He tasks me. He tasks me; and I shall have him. I’ll chase him ’round the moons of Nibia and ’round the Antares maelstrom and ’round Perdition’s flames before I give him up.”

Yep, that's us alright
