Yes, we are definitely a bunch of Captain Ahab's at the moment.

Although I prefer Kahn's Star Trek II version...

“He tasks me. He tasks me; and I shall have him. I’ll chase him ’round the moons of Nibia and ’round the Antares maelstrom and ’round Perdition’s flames before I give him up.”

Yep, that's us alright

Quick, everyone check Nibia, the Antares Maelstrom and Perdition's Flames....

Hmmm theese hoax videos what if their half thuths. Cant realy check myself cause im only on the phone until about mid week dangit..... Can we realy throw both of theese videos out of the window??? These are realy irritating me. I dont know for shure.. Annyone with a better analytical mind than mine out there?

Might have already been thought of, but have people actually used the advanced discovery scanner in all the systems mentioned such as around the areas mentioned in gal net?
-
I only ask because who would actually use one in a system that's popular and already appears to have been scanned (I mean the systems in the video for 1.2 for example as something may have been added there after 1.2)
-
I thought maybe it's been overlooked and may turn up something, I just can't imagine someone going through known space using one that's all

yeah, i have been pretty meticulous about scanning and examining planets. once i had a theory that because thargoids live in ammonia based envioments that might help us narrow a search. sadly this seems to be a dead end.

I did a few tests with a Black Box to see what the best was to capture the sound is.

Seems aligning it with the Cargo Scoop Cross Hairs is the way to go

440 meters and still Comprehensible quality

It actually works best to select the canister, switch to the debug cam & move close to it. That avoids the scoop sound the impact sound & most of your engine noise.

Also setting it to "Night" in your audio prefs really brings the sound out.

I think it may be worthwhile if people listed where they've searched and approximate how many hours they've searched there, and what signal sources appear most frequently. If nothing else it will help newcomers to the search on deciding whether they want to go try new locations instead of going over old ground already covered.

@ Arcanonn
Can you collate this kind of data into some sort of table with the total number of hours spent on each location, and add it to the first post?

Since Michael's hint my search data is this:

Soontill : 10 hours (eliminated Soontill Relics from the search as they emit no signal).

LHS 412 : 8 hours (following a loose lead from one of the books).

Timocani : 5 hours (following Redeye's info).

G 203-47 : 8 hours (going on the theory that high traffic NPC systems generate more signal sources to search).

California Sector HW-W C1-7 : 1 hour (I didn't stay long as not one source signal appeared - just felt like a dead end, but was worth checking just on the off-chance something was out there).

He Bo : 4 hours (seems to be more weak signal sources appearing here than any of my previous search areas).

What is the purpose of that thread?.

Other than combining all the data into one neat, and tidy post?
I've seen posts as recent as this morning of people saying that they just proved Soontill a hoax. Newcomers are going to have to read 69 pages of speculations mixed with very little fact. The post is designed to streamline exactly what we know. Not to mention I've personally dedicated hours to this thread as well as in game time. I think that if we keep the information simple and easy to understand we will have more people going in the right direction. Education is key, and I have dedication to follow leads and update every hour, 3 hours at the very least.

I've just noticed something that might be of use ( maybe not)
I was interdicting NPCs and noticed after interdicting an Elite rank ship it dropped a load of personal weapons before dying
-
I took a cargo scanner on my FDL to test this theory and interdicted some NPCs in anarchy systems and they mostly had rubbish, found an Elite a ASP and interdicted him, his cargo had only non lethal weapons and slaves
-
Maybe cargo scanning elite ships will yield a higher chance to find something rarer?
-
Im just throwing ideas out there that might be useful

That doesn't adress the problem that two threads will end up dividing the discussion. Now everyone will need to read two threads to follow the discussion. That is not an improvement.

+1 Thanks Derthek for your effort to make an abstract of this thread! Saved me 30 pages to go through since last time i checked :)
Btw. could it be possible there are bulletin board missions available featuring these artefacts?

Morning all. I've no problems with a side thread but I do understand that it would be best if we could keep things in once place.

I am crap at spread sheets, what I would like is a volunteer to make one on google docs or something and collate the data. To be frank I work full time and have a young family, when I started this thread I was just looking for some info to assist me in my own little search...............things have errr escalated somewhat since then :p

I am over the moon with what we are trying to do here and fail or succeed I think the large scale co-operation (including I gather the French are also with us) is just awesome. Maybe we find it, and/or maybe our actions will give some steer to the Dev Team over what would be cool to include in the future.

Soooo hands up anyone who wants to act as librarian for the search data, for me though in truth I'm feeling it’s just a rare spawn.......I could be totally wrong and it could be tied to a location so on that hand search data would be good, an certainly can't hurt!

Regarding the bulletin board idea, I had wondered if taking missions that involve Ancient Artefacts might increase your chance of getting WSS in general. But Honestly I cant see that being the case with out knowing how exactly missions effect spawn rate of sources. I do know that when I pick up a mission for, say, a black box, a WSS will conveniently spawn instantly containing several black boxes. As to if this has any effect on spawning a UA, i have no idea. and thanks! always appreciated.

Thats very kind of you, if you would create a spread sheet with some field in and post it I will put it on the main page with your details for people to send there search data to VIA PM. And that should do the job. :D
