If you watch the video it does a kind of spore explosion
Also every time the Artifact gets to the sound that sounds like ''whales'' the 2 sides of the head glow and as mentioned already certain iconography glows alongside the rear of it or what could be described as the ''seed pod'' end of the Artifact. When the sound loops around again and then the whale sounds start again the same parts of the Artifact start glowing again in rhythm with the ''whale sounds''.
Congratulations to CMR Wishblend for discovery, and congratulations too for CMR Red Wizard as he has a large amount of Palladium to pick up to help him in his future ship choices or just to spend on Alien ear grubs or beer.

I noticed when I first saw it, it lights up and dims every once and a while, and every time it lights up is when you hear the "fog horn" type sound.

I personally think it's one of their organic FSDs, notice the distortions around it.

I'm thinking the same thing, notice how the distortion effect is the same as the one you get when you jump to supercruise...

Sorry for the multitude of posts...just thinking aloud...

If I AM going to "drop" one of the set of numbers because I only need three, then I'd drop the second one, because it only has 5 digits instead of 6...so that seems like the odd one out...

That leaves me with either:
484, 1444, 625
or:
1681, 625, 1444

Anyone up for exploring?

Any idea where this is on the galaxy map?

By the way, I've taken the audio in my second clip, and tried converting using all the 7-bit codes Wikipedia knows about (ASCII, CCIR476/ITA2 - both orientations - and ITA4) and it yields nothing useful or intelligible in any way.

I can't help thinking we're missing something really obvious here.

I think you guys are making this more complicated than it is. Frontier dropped perfect hints in the 1.2 trailer and no one even noticed. Now that we have the unknown artefact and it's making audio you want to try and decode it. They said listen to it. It looks and sounds alien. I'm pretty sure that's all there is to it.
I think the theory is that this Unknown artifact is suppose to lead us to a non human celestial object out there Braben was talking about in the Q&A.

Like there is no code, but just funny sound.

To the commander who has one in Peregrina....

would you be prepared to release it into orbit around the quarantined moon ?

I think the theory is that this Unknown artifact is suppose to lead us to a non human celestial object out there Braben was talking about in the Q&A.

Indeed - and that was semi-validated by MB with his "Have you tried listening to it?" comment when people were trying to figure out what they were for.

Looking at it another way...they clearly put quite a bit of dev effort into building the models and audio for these things, and I can't imagine they'd do that for something inconsequential. Also, the audio is *very* regular in its composition; too much so to be random.

Dang, the more I listen to it, the more I think that this whale sound is some kind of signal indicating the beginning of a broadcast, as it is always followed by those "insectoid" sounds... Maybe we should concentrate on those insectoid sounds instead of trying to find a meaning to the whole loop ?

I think we should also do little-endian but that seems to lead to even more meaningless numbers.

Haven't tried little-endian, but if anybody is planning on going exploring, here it is in octal rather than decimal:

010110 - 26
00101 - 5
100110 - 46
011001 - 31

or

101001 - 51
11010 - 32
011001 - 31
100110 - 46

(although, on second thought, there would seem to be little logic in converting it to base 8 and then applying that to human base 10 coordinates...)

Logical solutions time again chaps - it 'sounds' like it's breathing, and the singing could be communication - distress, or a beacon of some sort - whatever it is, I'd say it's alive.
