Soontill Relics, the Regor Permit Sector and DB's cryptic hints....

To the commander who has one in Peregrina....

would you be prepared to release it into orbit around the quarantined moon ?

If you mean me, I'm not at Peregrina anymore, I flew to Leonard Nimoy (and have logged off for the day).
In any case, I don't think ejecting it into orbit would really do anything as that doesn't really fit with the current game mechanics.
Essentially, I think it is either just a message or, if it does something, you need to hand it in somewhere like any other commodity for a mission.

Not sure where I should hand it in if I'm going to sell it on the black market.
Does anyone have an argued view of selling it at either Peregrina or Leonard Nimoy?

Has anyone checked Leonard Nimoy station in LHS 3006? Maybe see what happens if you sell the artifact there? Or drop it there and see if it produces any other sounds?

Considering the information about the UA was "spoon fed" to us in the 1.2 trailer, maybe the station is also somehow connected? Would be worth a check.

I didn't see anything out of the ordinary (i.e. interesting Bulletin Board posts) at Leonary Nimoy.
Considering selling it but don't want to waste it.

I'm pretty sure that we shouldn't need to do anything too elaborate to crack it. While we were searching people came up with dozens of theories about where it could be, and in the end it was just in a SSS convoy.

Has anyone tried

1. Blowing it up?

...

7.Checking on the galaxy map to see if previously permit locked systems are still permit locked(while carrying one)?

I don't think we need to start taking apart each decibel of the sound individually for it to make sense. I'll try and find one myself later and have a go at it.

For 1. When it blew up (due to decay) it seemed to just stay in one place, this is the 'spore cloud' in my video.

For 7., no new permits added to my list, Polaris and Regor sector systems still seem to be locked on the galactic map too.

Guys POlaris requires a permit, we should try andbring that thing there, i mean it's a big ass star in the middle of nowhere and it requires a permit...

I haven't brought one there, but the system is still locked for me (no 'route' button) so I don't expect I will get access.

Guys, the code is much longer than anyone has recorded (that I have heard), we need the whole thing.

What makes you think that?
It seemed to just repeat the whale-noise then message on a loop.
Do you think the message changes each loop?
Or are there different messages depending on some context?

I'm going to head off now, but would be interested in peoples thoughts on where I should sell this item on the black market.
Did everyone else just sell theirs at He Bo?

There are 2 tones (low and high) that come in a sequence that seems to repeat after a while. That implies 2 states, up-down, on-off, 1-0... binary code.

I considered converting to ASCII but that's a human invention. So I disregarded it.
Morse code is also a human invention. So I'm disregarding it.

Taking this a step further, there is no reason to use it in connection with coordinates, as these seem to be arbitrary. What is the distance from 0,0,0 to 0,0,1: is that a human measure, or is there a strong relation to an astrophysical phenomenon. So even with Sag.A* as the center, with numbers, we wouldn't know what multiplication you would need to translate it to human distances.

I think the more important thing to note is that they managed to successfully find one. cargo scanned it, record it and eventually, brought one home.

Fascinating thread all. Loving it very much. Just wondering if the numbers that are coming up may be part of the Fibonacci sequence? (not sure if that has been posted yet) Don't know much about where the calculations would lead with this line of reasoning. Just a thought.

Another idea (just tossing it here, I have unfortunately no time to investigate it more). What if these "binary" numbers are jump distances, let's expect from Sirius? It can make sense, if UA is some kind of distress beacon, it may say: "star in XX distance" (notes), then "jump" (honk), "another star in XX distance", etc. Maybe it is a nonsense, but it has some logic behind. ;)

I love this idea - it's like how a blindfolded kidnap victim can only say how long they traveled between stops (doubly so if it's an organic FSD as some people have wildly speculated.)
22, 5, 38, 25... these are all jumpable distances. I would like more precision, but let's open the galaxy map and start looking around.

QUESTION: Are we getting the same numbers from artefacts found in DIFFERENT systems? If so then I'd guess He-Bo is the starting system and we work backwards from there, otherwise it would be the system the artifact was found in. But that doesn't get us outside human space, so I guess it's neither. Hmm.

Binary is a universal format, but Light-Years are a human metric, so it would seem odd in-game for an alien device to use LY, but maybe it's trying to communicate to us and so it's translating, hence binary and LY.

My wife suggested this: if it sounds like a whale, maybe we should match the whale sounds to the sounds in Star Trek IV and because we know what the whales in the movie were saying, we also know what the UA is trying to tell us. Except I think in the movie they didn't understand the whales, so instead they took the whales forward in time to talk to an alien probe.

I've not read all the thread as things have galloped on a bit recently, the price offered on the blackmarkets isn't similar to the rare goods mechanic i.e. the further from the source the more expensive they get?

Ok new theory what if it is an alien tuning fork... what if either transporting it or by having it outside near you the usual background sounds of the galaxy change and you're able to pinpoint areas of space that are more relevant? I know the galactic core makes a sound. The are a leading up to that small galaxy outside the milky way sounds unique too.

Also the thing looks like a wasp hive withi incubation chambers attached to it. What if the main bulb is where the larvae are and those tubes at the other end are where they mature in full sized drones?

Possibilities are mind boggling.

Does it emit same sound in different systems? If it is a beacon, it should not.

If it is a remote infestation drone... Does it need appropriate location? Do we want it to gestate?

This seems plausible, main reason to focuing on sound is MB asked if we'd listened to it or not

I think this is a thing to also focus on. Game extras with the artifact showing Commanders taking it to a station. Perhaps that is a clue, and make sure we ARE listening

Ok Polaris is the North Star. First of all, did you notice how Sol, Achenar and Lave are Written on the galaxy map when you zoom out? Yeah that makes perfect sense, but why is Polaris too?

Polaris is believed to be the "Star which became a symbol for finding your way home safely"(maybe a passage to alien world). Also this : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Star_Trail_above_Beccles_-_geograph.org.uk_-_1855505.jpg
That is a timelapse, and yeah, the middle one, which never moves, is Polaris. It requires a permit, tho it is 500 Ly from Sol, and it is massive and nothing is near it. I suggest you get a UA in a system next to Polaris. Maybe it will let you pass, like a code bar it has to read ?

So like a walnut does it need to be cracked to get to the good parts?

Also as ANYONE taken one to He Bo? That is where it was supposed to go but no mention of that.

Mine is in He Bo right now. And I don't know what to do with it.
Thinking maybe I should spend some time in the cross platform beta until I know what to do next in the retail version.

Is there anything in the way they align themselves? Do they point to a specific point in the space?

Maybe they aren't making that noise themselves, could they be broadcasting it? Like giant speakers in space?
