It's common knowledge because it was one of the things a lot of people were excited for in the wings update. It was in one of the newsletters, the manual and the patch notes for wings.
And the average player reads none of those. Games nowadays need to be developed to still be accessible to players that never get any spare bit of information about the game and its mechanics beyond what is given in-game (and even then not all of it, because players tend to skip any and all dialog boxes).
Perhaps Frontier could add an holographic clippy that automatically deploys in this kind of emergency?
(And only half joking, BTW.)
This is the topic other people won't agree with, but traders are also at a disadvantage in open due to pirates and blockaders. Traders will be better off switching to solo to potentially aviod them. This one doesn't have an easy fix and idk how/if it can be resolved.
For traders, the most obvious is cargo insurance.
Ya know Jollyfingers it does always seem to end up like that. Even with the best intentions.
Let me put it another way: if there is even a slight chance I might be attacked by a player against my will, then I won't have a game to play at all, because that alone would make the game not worth playing anymore.
This is why I won't budge an inch about always being able to opt out of PvP, and by extension about being able to do all content with no PvP risk and without being under any disadvantage otherwise.
Caveat: one thing could change my opinion, and that would be to eliminate death penalties for PvP death. Then I could just ram my attacker, explode together, respawn, and resume playing as if the attack never happened. It's more or less what I did when playing WoW in a PvP realm. I don't think those that want more players out there for open PvP would appreciate it, though.
