Yes, I thought that it seemed rather obvious who i was. If you look on page 6 you will see a screenshot of my right control panel in-ship displaying my CMDR name and current balance. If i die i will be at no loss regarding money and as i have already made it clear i wish to get back home to civilastion

We both want the same thing - cant you just self destruct and save me 2 days of travel?

Firstly, OP sorry to hear of this.

Thanks for the heads up on the <snip> Commander who chose to carry out this needless spineless attack.

Will keep any eye out for that flower ;) , or very possibly continue on my trip out in either a Private Group or Solo.

Regards

Should be a science station there or something - with a security force. If its reachable in 13 hours then its feasible to have a station there.

I have loved the idea of a scientific research base around Source 2, and maybe even a nav beacon "picnic spot" around Sagittarius A* itself.

It is true that Sagittarius A* has no authority governing it at the moment, so no laws to break, and no presence to enforce it.

Yet paradoxically, I feel it should need no enforcement by a single power, as given its currently understood role in the history of the Galaxy, it may well be the most significant single object in the galaxy. It should belong to everybody, a place for everybody to meet together and visit in peace, without permits, without prejudice, without malice.

Perhaps, with more people visiting the system now, it is time for the current human governments everywhere to recognise Sagittarius A* as a system in its own right and grant it Universal Protected Status due to its historical, natural and astronomical value? Specifically, in its role as neutral ground. It can then follow that any such attempts to defile the system with killings of innocent pilots result in a severe penalty: say, a prolonged Wanted period across ALL civilised human space?

Any thoughts? Something worthy of an official in-game petition?

Yes, well worthy of Sag A* being Sacrosanct ground so to speak

I disagree with permit locking on the basis of rank or status, though. It would not be fair on people wanting to see it for themselves. I wouldn't mind having visitors' permits that can be bought nearby and rescinded for any transgression of the laws as part of the punishment.

I like to think of the system as being like a nature reserve in that respect: behave, and you will be welcomed; but break the country code and prepare to be shunned into submission.

dont get me wrong, I said it was the only alternative I could think of... it's not the option I prefer lol.

That said, the idea of requiring some kind of deposit to gain entry could be good. Set at a fair level, maybe 1m?, return it when a player peacefully leaves the system, minus a 10% admin fee. If a player commits a crime, the deposit is lost, if a player is destroyed, their rebuy is covered by the pool of "admin fee's" at the core.

Just to let you know that after completing BuckyBall 7 last night I logged back into Sag A* and got attacked and killed by a CMDR for no apparent reason other than their pleasure. Unfortunately I was just enjoying the view and didn't even notice them until they had interdicted me. I believe, due the to rules of the forum, I am not allowed to name and shame the person responsible (I do have screenshots).

For me this is absolutely disgraceful behaviour. I've spent 3 days, visiting over 1000 systems, and now all the hard work is gone, so some swine can kill an unarmed explorer. I was really looking forward to the return trip and being able to take more time to visit the unusual and amazing things in the FD Galaxy.

I'm not a proponent of stopping griefing, but I would love to be able to
1) name and shame publically. If this was RL behaviour public condemnation would be a deterrent.
2) I'd love to be able to put a 5m CR bounty on this player's head.

Anyway, other travellers to Sag A be careful.

I had the same problem when returning to my home sytem unfortunatly for him i had reflective armour((reducing heat damage when to near to a sun)wich made his weapons use less and advanced hull integritey and 1 small mislle banks i rammed the dropship when his shields where down i destroyd him with a couple of misles .

Am I missing something? It's you're own fault dude.

Directed at me I take it. I don't know if you bothered with my OP. Apart from my, I would hope entirely understandable displeasure at losing 30m CR of exploration data (another 1000 jumps to earn that back, sigh), my only points are
1) be warned if you are also travelling to Sag A.
2) I wish there were better in game tools for making the consequences match the actions. For example, would Universal Cartographics take kindly to psychopaths killing explorers with valuable data? Wouldn't they put bounties out to discourage this behaviour? Shouldn't I be able to do that myself? (probably not because it would be abused by some)

For me killing others for personal benefit is acceptable. Killing others for lulz and notoriety is not. I'd like better in game mechanics to try and deal with the latter.

Yeah sounds more enjoyable then waiting around to pick off another explorer. That is unlikely now considering how much this whole thing has blown up and i got to admit i didn't plan on any sort of reaction this big. Lets hope one more little explorer wonders here that hasn't actually read this threat yet. I would like one more kill before the Calvary comes to finish me off :)

With the right sort of profit margins, it would make a good source of income for any station out there selling permits. Sagittarius A* can truly become a workable Tourism economy. :D

Nothing to see here, no crime was commited here as there is no law out there except that which you bring along with your railguns.

"Laws change, depending on who is making them, but justice is justice." - Odo, Deep Space Nine

This was the killing of an innocent.

What constitutes as Justice relies heavily on your set of morals and your culture, and is therefore very relative. The only absolute thing about justice is that it is 'what is right', and what is right isn't absolute.

As for whether the killing of an 'innocent' trully took place, all we have are the word of some nobody who, for all we know, fumbled into a star and to avoid the shame and maybe get back into the race they were taking part in, probably paid this CMDR Rhododendron to take the blame.
For all we know this could be a ploy by the decadent pigs to send the navy and claim Sag A* for the Federation under the pretense of making it safe again.

You need to link to the post, I'm not on the standard 10 posts per page.

Just got back from Sag A and never going back.

Personally, I wouldn't kill you, as that seems to be what you want.

I did and I agree with you for the most part. Killing for notoriety is a "Thing" though......

Pretty much most other peoples reactions are OTT imo. Yeah it's a big loss for you.....but you knew the risks.

Well that adds some interest to the story i must say, A little far-fetched but enjoyable to read none the less. I can assure you though CMDR DoubleSkulls did die and i was the killer. Now i await my death!

Hope no one gives you the satisfaction. Just blows your engines. :)

Sorry about what happened to you, but I am very much against naming and shaming. It would open a can of worms.
I am on the other hand a proponent of stopping griefing, if that was possible, so I am a bit nonplussed about your view on that.

What constitutes as Justice relies heavily on your set of morals and your culture, and is therefore very relative. The only absolute thing about justice is that it is 'what is right', and what is right isn't absolute.

Which is why I now propose something be done about it for what I feel is the greater benefit of all players: see later posts.

What is right to you?

As for whether the killing of an 'innocent' trully took place, all we have are the word of some nobody who, for all we know, fumbled into a star and to avoid the shame and maybe get back into the race they were taking part in, probably paid this CMDR Rhododendron to take the blame.

Interesting theory. Do you have proof of this?

Besides, regardless of who did what to whom, my proposal stands.
