This picture is from about 11000 LY away. I was starting to think something was wrong. Shouldn't I be heading towards teh middle of the bright bit? The actual "Milky Way":

And from about 6000LY I was sure there was a problem. I looked at my coordinates and I was about 1100 LY above Sag A* (and Sol).

I thought that cost me time by travelling up in the wrong direction, then having to correct it, but it diverted me from the main galactic plane, and reduced the number of system for the route plotter to use.

Right now while I'm in the center its taking forever to plot only 40ly.

Yeah, getting out of the main galactic plane makes a huge difference in plotting times. I went up some, but not enough - that was one of the mistakes I made.

My time was pretty good... but if I was to do it again sometime, I know I could do better with the lessons I learned from this run.

EDIT: ARGH. I can't do it. I can't self-destruct her after she carried me faithfully so far through so much danger. I'm gonna have to fly her home. Why am I so sentimental over something in a video game? ...and why did I know this was going to happen?

Why did you think I re-named my Vulture to Suicide Bomber? :D

I'd be totally surprised if, after arriving at Sadge and after I hit the "explode now" button, I end up at 70 Virginis :p

Yeah. I was doomed as soon as I named this one. Naming her gave her an identity. A personality.

And then I had her for a month before the run, too.

So now I'm stuck with her. Of course, I'm sure someone will beat my new Hauler record eventually, and then I'll need her again. So... could be worse.

I just had a trial run with my Vulture.... overall I'd say it's almost the same as if I were doing the run in the Cobra. Route plots were about the same, except maybe the Vulture had an extra jump or 2 along the way to Sadge.

Surprisingly I never had to "stop for gas" at all... every scoopable star can be "skimmed"... ie by the time I am faced the right way for the next jump, the tank would already be filled. That's probably a good thing about an 8-ton tank and a C5 scoop (yeah I don't even need an A-rated scoop).

So I'm expecting a 25 to 30-hour trip if I were to do it in a single sitting. Knowing myself, that probably won't happen :D

Just signing up for the Buckyball Run. I'm doing my run in an ASP and I aim to beat the record time, but i will probably end up at the end of the list anyway, wish me luck :)

Hi ElectricZ

I've had an idea, which is always a bit dangerous...

Can you give me a bit of detail about the 'Shotgun Shine'?

I know its a Type-7... But some idea of the... Er... Colour scheme might be nice. :)

Your message inbox is full too, by the way.

Also, I'll be setting out in my Orca tomorrow, if I can find a good fuel scoop.

Good luck, you would need to do 2900LY per hour to get under 9 hours. I'd swap your Asp for a Type 8.

Wish I took my Orca, what sort of jump range are you getting on it?

I'm currently about 11500Ly from Sol, and should be around the half-way point in number of jumps.

Haven't been doing much exploring on the way out despite having pinged about a thousand systems so far. Still, I've made a few detours when bored of endless hyperspace tunnels....

Heheh, nice job! I suspect there might be something else it's under as well. Was wondering when that'd happen :D
Thanks, I had a pretty good run and finished with the time that I hoped for (but didn't necessarily expect to get).

There's still room for improvement in an Asp, I had a bit of a nightmare for two legs across the final "between arms" area, because normal plotting stopped working, but my magic number (and my theory about whole numbers) didn't work. I lost a few minutes trying to find a different number, but once I was in the core the denser systems meant my original number worked. :)

I also still had both explorer scanners to make sure my ship was exactly the same range as last time.

I won't be making another run unless I can afford a faster ship than an Asp, and I don't think I'll have a Conda any time soon.

Well you said you were departing at 0:00 and it was nearly 13:00 when you posted :)
Yes, sorry. I had a little break before coming to the forums. :)

It's tradition that Bucky posts the times, but I couldn't help teasing.

I'm only just uploading my screenshots now.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong (apart from spending load of time scanning stuff). I thought Sag A was supposed to be tourist central with a well worn path. I keep running into unexplored and barely explored systems and I'm not that far out. Seems I must have taken the road less travelled by. The only thing that makes think I'm still on the right track is each jump is towards the big bright bit.

Best of luck to you, mate :) A worthy goal indeed.
