Best of luck to you, mate :) A worthy goal indeed.

Thanks, although I must admit, I already gave up on my goal :) Because my calculations showed that I can't beat the record in an ASP and I found a star on the map within 10k LY distance to SOL which I really want to check out, possible candidate for one of the largest stars. I guess I will wait with the buckyball run until I got an anaconda.

Don't do the Buckyball Run just to try and win. It's great just joining in, Buckyballs are the most fun that I have playing Elite - and I enjoy lots of things in this game! :)

@morph113 - You don't need an Anaconda to race ... people have made it in SIDEWINDERS and EAGLES... You say you have an Asp? Go for it. Alot broke the record the first time around with an Asp... ie an Asp beat an Anaconda's time. You could do it too (of course a whole bunch of factors must align correctly and the moon must turn blue, but IT COULD HAPPEN!).

Maybe I'm doing something wrong (apart from spending load of time scanning stuff). I thought Sag A was supposed to be tourist central with a well worn path. I keep running into unexplored and barely explored systems and I'm not that far out. Seems I must have taken the road less travelled by. The only thing that makes think I'm still on the right track is each jump is towards the big bright bit.

I ran into a system with unexplored planets two FDL jumps from Sol a week ago.

I'm still on my way home. 11.8 kly done, 14 kly to go. Hull is at 79%, FSD is at 76%. So far I had 10 FSD failures and glass is broken. I hope I can make it to Sol. I should be more careful ... There is still a long way.

Going through my screenshots looking for what is worth uploading...

Fifth!!
5th!
This is a Travesty.. and if I wasn't so damn busy with IRL stuff, and my RSW duties I might actually make it back to the Civ-Bubble and go again.
I seriously need to get my time to under 15hrs

Bad enough I have an aggravating little upstart from GNN beating me. But 4 other T-6's as well.. IT'S AN OUTRAGE!!

I'm outraged as well.

I have to update your Guestbook Quote every time it happens. :D

Why did you think I re-named my Vulture to Suicide Bomber? :D

I'd be totally surprised if, after arriving at Sadge and after I hit the "explode now" button, I end up at 70 Virginis :p

But not before thinking "Hey, that's not right, it should send him back to Sol!" :D

Hi ElectricZ

I've had an idea, which is always a bit dangerous...

Can you give me a bit of detail about the 'Shotgun Shine'?

I know its a Type-7... But some idea of the... Er... Colour scheme might be nice. :)

Your message inbox is full too, by the way.

All your questions about the Shotgun Shine may be found here...

Behind the Ball

But if that's too much to go through, it's pretty much a gray box with a bunch of mismatched panels. She's actually not supposed to stand out in any way.

Yes, sorry. I had a little break before coming to the forums. :)

It's tradition that Bucky posts the times, but I couldn't help teasing.

Tease away. The no posting time thing is mainly for the short races to keep CMDRs from flooding the board with a bunch of taunts and challenges for the six runs each they make in a day. :p For BBRA* it's... less of an issue. :)

It's be a lot more explored if it were a straight line.... But there are so many ways that the route plotter can plot, so many directions you can go... People will be discovering new stuff there and back for years to come. Though it is heartbreaking to be in the middle of nowhere, light up an earthlike... and see "Discovered by CMDR TooSlowSucka" when you hover over it. :(

Try not to sneeze, and for pete's sake don't even think of cleaning your canopy!

You have to keep in mind the sheer number of systems. The further you head out, the chance of you randomly jumping into a system that has already been explored gets exponentially less and less, unless you are hitting popular tourist destinations, like nebulae and stuff.

annoyed with other threads next to the buckyball one, like why is griefing?
bored im dead?, code stole my kitten? welcome to the community events section nestled away from all those dreadful threads, long live community events!
I wonder if id have ever come here if it was here from the start.

Just to let people know, the guy killing people at Sag A* has claimed 5 kills now.

Don't glorify this loser with recognition. He doesn't deserve it.

I would never have known about the Buckyball Run if the threads had been here to start with. I have never once looked in this forum before.

The thread being moved is unfortunate; I suspect we'll get a whole lot fewer new Buckyballers now.

Im out there in the same situation.

I've had too turn back, being only about 8,000 ly out from the center.

Currently am 8,00 ly out from populated space.

My FSD needs a few tries to get going. glass is all cracked. Life support is at 60%....hatch is at 0%. Thrusters are holding well somewhere in the 70's %.

So am sharing your ....concerns.

Geez what the heck happened? Why the sudden movement of the thread?? I couldn't find it in the main forum and had to go to my OWN profile to see my OWN activity to click on the thread to come here....

Man this is like the top floor of a shopping mall - nobody ever goes up there, only regular customers.

Oh yeah in Asia, shopping malls are more than just 2 floors tall... here they are at least 6 to 8 storeys high, Hong Kong has malls that are even taller. I remember seeing 10 and 12 storey malls along their commercial district.

Some good (bad?) news though.. looks like my Vulture run might be much earlier than 29th.... I'm "forced" to go on vacation this week :)

ps: My Vulture is going out there in a combat configuration... maybe when I get there and Anuranium is still there I'll wing up and help for a few days... or until I get blown up.. whichever is sooner

I disagree, I too had the thought to play that "villain" but am unable to even get a T6 out there in one piece, so no hope of some fighter lol. A guy killing explorers at the "peak" is quite funny, it takes "normal" people weeks and weeks to get out there. I would be soooooo seed if that happened to me....

It's a great opportunity for a "hero" now isn't it?

If you feel bad for the "victims", why not try and find out who they are and send a gift basket or some cargo.

What's more, be thankful an organized group, like a green peace or a conservation authority hasn't blockaded Sag-A with KoS fighters.

Yep, looks like we've been consolidated... It's eerie in a way. Was just talking with Anuranium not an hour ago about how the BBR has been fortunate enough to stay in the General Discussion board. Then BAM! I come back in and find we've been whisked off to Community Events. You know what this means???

The board dudes are doing their jobs. We're not on the first floor anymore as F2 put it so appropriately, but then again we've never been "general discussion." The logic of the realignment is sound. But, by the same token, they might be gutting the golden calf. By relegating community generated content to the top floor, less people will see it and less will participate. It only remains to be seen if the community generated events suffer for it. In the mean time, business as usual! :D

Aside from the fact it's not funny for the guy who spent a month getting out there, losing countless hours of time and millions of credits of exploration data because he had the bad luck of being instanced with a jerk who had nothing better to do than wait for six hours at his computer for an unaware opponent to show up on his scanner... (deep breath, run on sentence) You're not talking about anything race related here, so kindly take it somewhere else. You're off topic. Buh bye.

Oh yeah, update to the big board in the near future as soon as it stops sparking.

::tap tap tap:: Is this thing on? Man this place is empty... Echo... echo... echo...

I always thought 'Community Events' was for real-life events like meet ups, pub crawls, cross country illegal races... Oh, wait...

I must admit I have been guilty of slightly off topic rambles in what should be a racing thread (cf. This post. Then again, you have to love recursion!)

Maybe we need our very own [BBR] topic prefix so we can all just filter out the chaff and focus on what's important - racing, talking about racing, drinking, then racing some more.

You left out the most important item - PSBs... Purple Space Babes.
Good point, FoxTwo, we could do a dual prefix [BBR][PSB]

It might just fall into 'talking about racing*' though.

*-'and Purple Space Babes'

My ideas are getting more Dangerous™ all the time, now I'm eyeing off my Derwents and Tamiyas as well as SketchUp.

Don't know if anybody out there is gonna see it, but here it is anyway...

Okay, so some pretty big news for the Buckyball, and I don't mean our new home in the Community Events subform of the Elite Dangerous Boards. So, uh, for anybody who might stumble down here and accidentally see it...

CMDR Raiko has set a positively amazing record for getting to Sagittarius A* in an Asp, taking just 10 hours, 37 minutes and 50 seconds to get there in the Nomad. That's just a minute and a half behind CMDR Anuranium's Anaconda Gjallarhorn which is currently on station at Sadge providing overwatch for explorers and racers at the center of the galaxy. Raiko's time was not only good enough to hang with the Big Snake in the race, but also to set a solid record for the Asp class that will likely stand for some time.

Speaking of class records, CMDR Jaryd Moonshadow's Hauler Haulin' A* smashed another record, setting the bar for Zorgon-Peterson's workhorse at 13 hours, 27 minutes, 14 seconds, knocking nearly four hours from the top time formerly held by CMDR Kulzar. Moonshadow also broke another record, having launched a full 35 days after declaring his intent to race, but this record is in jeopardy as both Ethelred and Nomake Wan are both standing by to take it from him. ;) Most importantly, Rankaze has earned the coveted Star Pip and bumper sticker! Congratulations, Rankaze!

Finally, the Buckyball welcomes CMDR Ryan Garret and his Asp Rubber Ducky to the race. Though the hologrammatic screen of the Ducky's configuration has not been sent, one can only hope that it is the vibrant yellow color befitting its name. Welcome aboard, Garret! Hopefully you haven't earned the title of the last entrant of the Buckyball A*...

So, uh... Here we are. Wherever here is. I hope the regulars to the thread find their way back, and uh... some new people decide to click on the community events forum as well. You know it's funny I was kinda worried about going on vacation for a couple weeks in the very near future, about keeping up with the board and all, but it might not actually be an issue now.

Umm... Thank you. Thank you... Thank you...
