Coriolis.io - A new ship builder and comparison tool

Only spent 5 minutes on it (I'm hard at work) but this looks superb!

Rep'd.

Edit:
Seems to not work on Chrome on my HTC One M8, the ship links just don't open (even with a long press and 'open in new tab'). No big deal for me but I thought you'd want to know.

OK I get that this new tool has more flexibility since it can run on portable devices such as phones, is that right? If so then that has got to be a good thing I guess. And of course the screen is designed differently too - a matter of taste I suppose. But what benefit, or how is it better, than ED shipyard? Don't get me wrong - great job and all that, but not sure that it is all that much better to be honest.

Neither of these tools is actually all that user friendly. Here's just a little example.

I want to choose a Life Support module. There are factors that affect my choice. Weight, power use, and duration in this case. Click the module box on the screen and I see a list of choices but no helpful information. I have to actually choose one and see how it affects everything. Then go and choose another one to see how that affects things and hopefully remember the previous one to decide whether it is better or worse. Then look down the bottom at the ship as a whole to see what the affect has been and this requires searching around to find the appropriate numbers. Just one example.

I want to be positive - I certainly applaud your efforts - but to me the tool is just another representation of what EDS does and doesn't present anything in terms of either a revolutionary or evolutionary step forwards. It's just the same info and mechanics, presented a little differently.

What would be good would be for a design to be done based around how it would actually be used. How does a user use it, hands on? Where are they looking? What info is needed to make choices and how (wnd where) can that be best presented in an intuitive and informationally replete manner? How could colour be better utilised? (it is a little mono-chromatic and an opportunity is therefore wasted). What about fonts, font size and weight variations, and so on. It could be so much more.

All great feedback, and I completely agree. But this most important thing I want to stress here is that this is a completely open source project, and this isn't even version 1.0. I want interested CMDRs to contribute code, ideas, designs, etc.

One of the features I want to implement (which is very tricky for tablet, and phones) is a 'show and highlight changes on hover' type feature (just like you see in the game itself), which would address the issue you mentioned. We'll get to it :)

The 'big' feature with Coriolis.io over EDshipyard (which is also awesome btw, Taleden did a wondeful job), is the comparisons, which I hope people will find useful.

Give it time and with some support of the E:D community it will be much more ;)

Thanks for the report!

Kudos. I like that all the builds can be exported as one and ported between browsers but, I do wish it just had a login facility.

Thanks for the hard work.

Yeah that is a feature going on the back log. Mostly just a hosting cost issue (database, security improvements, etc).

Hi,

Is there anyway to set power usage for modules at different priorities, or more basically switched on/switched off?

Power and Cost can be toggled on/off by clicking the component in each list. I'm going to improve the UI to make this more clear.

This looks pretty awesome. I haven't really played with it beyond clicking a few modules but the first thing that sprung to mind was that modules should be listed from E-A (getting better from left to right) rather than A-E. It's a tiny niggle but it felt more intuitive to look for the highest on the right-hand side. (This may have been mentioned already.)

That's funny, I think the opposite is better, but then again, I'm left-handed :p Might have to get a vote of consensus on this

Yup, same here on chrome on my Galaxy S3.

IMO it should stay as it is; I want the best equipment to be available first in all cases. This leads me to suggest that the other modules need to be class decreasing so that the best module is in the Top-Left slot.

Very nice!

Works smooth on Chrome, at least.

Feature request: could we drag-and-drop to move components into different slots? E.g. such as when dragging a rank 3 cargo bay extension module from rank4 slot to a rank3 slot

Yeah, fair enough. Easy to tweak!
