Haven't you just answered your own question? Seems like it's relatively obvious given the description of the target.

Well yes and no. I spent a lot of time on the beta getting to the stage where I can determine what's likely to get me into hot water. Other people will not have had that opportunity to research it and so we get the "hurr durr game is bad I did an assassination mission and got a bounty placed on my own head" type of posts.

A little more transparency would resolve the confusion that a lot of players are experiencing.

If they can't be bothered to read the text then I'm not sure that anything is going to help. There are enough icons around to give you a hint already.

any ETA on when it is likely to go down for the update (more importatnly for me, actually, when it is likely to be back up!).

The wife is out with her mates for a few hrs, so i will have 2 or 3 hrs to get my teeth into Elite tonight.
(this only partly makes up for my jealousy that she is going for a Thai meal!!!)

Don't you just hate it when you get a few hours clear to play uninterrupted, and then the "Servers will be down in x minutes" message pops up to absolutely and completely micturate on your parade, figuratively speaking.

On the other hand, a Thai meal sounds nice tonight...

Tell me about it... Well, s/hours/minutes/, but I have to grab what I can.

My theory about the demo button on the Steam launcher: they are about to release the rest of the game - we've been playing the demo until now :D.

got the update downloaded but still no server access as of yet :s

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your patience while the servers are down today... (should be back up at approximately 16.30PM BST)

Since there are Frontier personnell present right now, maybe I can get one question answered to which I haven't found a real solution, so far:
How are people who haven't bought the game, yet, supposed to find the demo, when there's no download of the launcher available for unregistered people? And no, a link to hosting.zaonce.net isn't gonna cut it... A demo needs to be able to be found without wading through a game's forum to be any useful. ;)
You can buy the game on Steam, and if it doesn't work well, or if you don't like the game, you can get a refund. You need to have played the game under two hours for this to be possible. The launcher of the game counts as play time, mind you.

Note: you can only do this with the Steam version. The version sold directly by Frontier on their site can NOT be refunded for such a reason as "I don't like the game" or "it runs slow." At least I don't think it can. Someone here will probably correct me if I'm wrong.

They've not been deliberately 'nerfed' but they are more variable. There is an issue with the high and low intensity ones not scaling their difficuly correctly which is being looked into.

Michael

Hi Michael,

Can you comment on the RES issue where the ships you encounter in an instance are very limited and repetitive/predictable? For example, if you see a wanted Imperial Clipper, you'll keep seeing an unlikely number of wanted Imperial Clippers. Usually there are only 3-4 wanted ship types that keep getting recycled, instead of dynamically spawning ships from the whole range of possibilities.

This also leads to the unintended gameplay of "resetting" the instance by reconnecting or leaving/re-entering in order to "reroll" the ship list in hopes of getting bigger ships. It's very non-intuitive and anti-immersive.
