Modes The Solo vs Open vs Groups Thread - Part the Second [Now With Added Platforms].

EVERY game that has PvP and is balanced around it, will have a big PvP community. Even some PvE games like WoW (where you had to do PvE at least for leveling to do PvP later) with pretty weak balance overall still have a huge PvP community.
So people EXPECT it to have enough other people to play with. This is how it works, nobody will check out HOW MUCH PvP is actually possible - if its there, anyone would expect it withhin a decent time window of 5-10minutes if he wants.
It really doesnt matter if this is a pvp-oriented game or not, its a part of the gameplay and anyone who likes it expect to find opponents quickly, specially after release when so many people get the game.

And having a singleplayer-mode doesnt mean that is has to cripple the multiplayer part for it, its true for 99% of the current multiplayer games (most of them have a singleplayer part somewhere, heck even CS has "singleplayer" VS bots, but most people play in multiplayer just because playing with other people is fun).
You write so much about other games, and game design in general, that I don't think anyone here even knows exactly what it is that you are lobbying for...

So what is it? What is it you want Frontier to do?

as an aside, i love the way you kept te title, and ignored the description underneath!

My apologies - I didn't ignore it. Perhaps I should rephrase.

MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER

Experience unpredictable encounters with players from around the world in Elite: Dangerous’ vast massively multiplayer space. Indeed. There's over 500,000 players you can potentially meet, up to 32 in your instance at any given time. Fly alone or with friends in a connected galaxy where every pilot you face could become a trusted ally or your deadliest enemy. And even if you never meet any of them, all of them are interacting with the background sim in one way or another, which will in turn directly affect your experience - no matter which game mode they, or you, play in.

Is that a bit clearer now? Mods may want to delete my earlier response to avoid duplication.

[Never mind, got it, seen where you got that. Also states to "Fly alone" - so doesn't quite support Opens point of view ;) )

actually, i reckon it supports both sides of this threads arguments.

especially the part that mentions

'where every pilot you face could become a trusted ally or your deadliest enemy'

He did say, not so long back.... darned if I can find it now.
Something like he won't be happy until this is Unreal Tournament in space (I paraphrase)
Or if you prefer, he owns a club and wants baby seals. He is the Cruella Deville of ED I think ;)

i wasnt stating an opinion.

i copied part of the description from the front page of elitedangerous.com

maybe what you have done in your response,
is to write a more accurate description of the game.

Does not state they are humans.

I've had NPCs snitch locations of targets, NPCs have threatened me to not pursue a target. Had an NPC bounty hunter engage every target I did at a Nav once, it was almost like having an NPC wingman ;)

So, yea - at no point does it start, "person", "human" or "player" - says "pilot", which can be an NPC ;)

i admire your ability to bend without breaking.....

and marvel at the lengths you will go to, in order to invalidate someone elses point of view!

See you keep quoting different parts, but that is a great part: "with friends"

None of my friends use the forums, also none of my friends use Open either.
So why would I want to with folks who are not my friends? It says for me to "Fly alone or with friends" and that is exactly (to the letter) what I do when I play.

Doesn't state, pretend to be a baby seal and wait for someone with a club to "interact" with you ;)

(I must admit, you've surprised me. You've not resorted to unfounded accusations that FD tell lies like Jordan has or being insulting like Meme did. You and TheSpaceTexan have been really good to have this endless back and fourth with.)

i would hope that you dont see me as being a baby seal clubber.
thats just not the kinda person i am.

but if thats whats really behind all this.....

and if it is... i do understand....

would finding solutions to those problems make you feel more inclined to play in open?

(as it happens, even though my first impressions of you were not.... wholly positive,
you're alright when you're not in 'sparring mode' !)

i truly have no interest in spoiling anyones enjoyment, or taking anything away from anyone

Round a round a round we go where it stops nobody knows...

OK I'll be silly and bite (sigh), I just posted in another thread (yes there are other thread on this forum :0) about the issues of the game is being FD have tried to develop an every man game.

Long term I don't think it will work as single player and multiplayer generally are separate (or the game is focusing on one with a token other i.e. Battlefield, GTA etc) and definitely do not directly compete.

Now before everybody copies and pastes their reoccurring arguments (JOCKY!!) think of why this thread is so popular, plus the last one. I have played Battlefield + COD for year never seen anything like this, played GTA's never seen anything like this..

FD need to work out what type of game this is and put the other group out of their misery. Market it as one or the other not both as half the player base will be disappointed..

That is true, catering to both leaves a bitter taste in everyone's mouth, noone is left satisfied.

But that was a single player only game.. The issue isn't the game (that is another topic) but the fact FD are trying to scoop any potential players in buy telling them it is a MMO and a Single Player game.

Generally a game is either one or the other or primary one with the other tacked on.

selfless.

i want the game to do really well.

i'm a console gamer who is suffering having to play ED on a laptop.

i cant wait for ED to be released on xbox one.
i can sit back in my chair and look at a 40 inch screen.
i'll be able to wing up with my mates and talk to them as we play.

but the way the game is at the moment....

i already know that they will play for a while and get bored.
or they'll get murdered once too often and stop playing.

i want open mode to be the buzzing thriving galaxy its described as
but there's no way it will happen if things stay the way they are now.

its a big thing to have elite on a console.
we've had to suffer childish 'fast food' gaming for years.
ED is a more mature and sophisticated experience.

if it does well on the xbox one, we'll get more games of better quality.

if it fails we'll be stuck with the same old crap and it will have been an opportunity missed.

as it stands now, there arent that many good games on xbox one.
if there were hundreds to choose from, ED would be competing for peoples money
but the space is there. more people will buy and play it because of the limited choice
but if it fails, the disquiet will be amplified for exactly the same reasons.
