With all the technical difficulties you have had, plus the galactic instability of late, I have to say, I'm impressed. Timewise... it's not the best of times, but you are indeed the first to finish in a FDL!
I salute you!

I believe (not confirmed by EZ) that Galileo was chosen only because Anuranium did his 13 hour run with that as the starting point. BBRA* is basically re-creating Anuranium's epic 13 hour run.

I agree, however I dare not challenge Buckey or the race organizer on this one.

My personal hope is that given the rather minor nature of the rule violation (I mean, you can pretty much see Galileo from Daedalus :p), Morbad will receive the time-honoured Buckyball tradition of public humiliation, but the time standing. :D

:D The irony of a CMDR flying in a 26,000LY race, but too lazy to post a few words on a forum! ;)

Welcome to the Buckyball Run CMDR Serraphix! Fly safe CMDR!

Haha, thanks! I was unable to sign in, because I wasn't home by that time. But Chance kept buggin' me on phone. ;D

You are assuming "the majority of players" here to mean "players who have pledged to a faction", not truly "majority of the players".

EDIT:
I am of the opinion that there will be MORE players un-aligned to any faction than there will be for any of the factions :) Simply from the observation that Powerplay seems to interest those who are MMO-centric/PvP-centric in their interests. The rest of us (explorers mostly, some mercs and traders) probably have no interests whatsoever.

I am not pledged to any faction, have no plans to pledge to any of them, and none of the space is hostile to me :D I go where the money is, and my loyalty is valid until the end of the current contract :p

I'm not overly interested in PvP in ED, and I am pledged. Why? Because I want to have an impact on the state of the galaxy, even if it's a small one.

I suspect there are many others like me.

Good luck on your run, Commander!

I'm making my way home in the same ship, so I can tell you it's a good ship - as long as you don't mind spending a while scooping.

After some significant technical difficulties, I have finally made it to Sagittarius A*. Was originally planning on three day tour, but a failed flight computer, HUD, and space dementia brought on from my overloaded environmental systems being unable to filter all the fumes of scorched electronics extended this considerably.

Anyway...

CMDR Name: Backer

Congratulations on completing the challenge! Especially in a Fer-de-Lance! That's pretty hardcore!

And as you might have guessed, the Diamondback Scout Cookies has arrived at Sadge after a flight time of 14h 52m 30s, breaking my previous streak of nigh 24h flights.

All told, I had two emergency drops, two minor overheats, three sun fly-throughs, six server connection losses and far, far too much time on my hands whilst fuel scooping.

Congrats! Great time, that's really setting the bar for the class!

I hope that it doesn't matter, since it's still Sol-to-Sadge. I must admit that I found it quite hard to spot where it says Galileo in the rules. Early in the race I was wondering why everyone was setting off from Galileo as I would have probably chosen one of the stations orbiting Earth. I had to reread the rules more carefully to see where Galileo was specified. :)

Seconded. Given you spend no SC time in the starting system, I can't see it being a problem.

I had a bit of an easier time flying around last night, after the 1.3.02 update, I'm still in the core at the moment making my way 'galactic east', but as I'm a little away from the centre now I can actually spot local nebulae more easily so I'm travelling from planetary nebula to planetary nebula in a generally eastern direction towards a large nebula just outside the core.

I've not been bothering with 'magic-number' plotting, I've just selected a visible planetary nebula from about 100-200LY away and set a course for it, then once I get within 1 jump, I switch my destination to the star closest to the nebula to get some close up photos before entering to scan the system itself.

These 100-200LY plots have been plotting quite quickly - within 10 or 15 seconds. I also didn't experience any crashes last night. So there's definitely hope for anyone running with the current version - if you don't know your 'magic number' keep making shorter range plots until you find a distance that plots almost instantly - then multiply that range to get something close to 1000LY and see if it plots quickly.

When I actually make long range 972LY plots they work within 1 second, so definitely faster than it was in 1.2. If I keep making good progress I may be out of the core after tonight, depending how many nice systems to scan I stumble across, so this might be the last help I can offer until I make another run myself. :)

Has anyone considered a Buckyball Universal Cartographics run?

It's taking me almost as long to sell my exploration data as it took to get to Sadge. :(

@drakhyr My friend Serraphix(Also CMDR Serraphix) would like to be put on the list. He is running a Diamondback Scout which is named Vakarian. He's too lazy to post but I got him interested in it :p

Welcome Serraphix! I may not do another complete update to the Unofficial Big Board, unless there is a rush of new entries or finishers, as I believe ElectricZ is back this weekend. But I've captured your details and you'll be on the list I send over to EZ when he returns :)

That's my expectation too, though I don't have the final say. Morbad's time is my board, and I think we've largely covered the ritual humiliation :D

I sympathise! From my first run I spread selling the data across several systems, which did break it up a bit. Got five new system permits in the process :)

Well, I think the rules are pretty strict on that one... The humiliation has to occur when the miscreant's time is added to the official Big Board. I'm sure EZ will have us covered. :D

One benefit of doing the A* run: no NPCs around to do this!

And I thought jumping through suns was the worst that could happen on a jump!

Meanwhile, on the way back home, I've come across one of the side effects of doing the Sadge Run for the fourth time:
"'No new astronomical objects discovered'? I have no memory of this place."

Finally after propping up the bar in Galileo for the past couple of months my newly minted Explore-a-hauler has arrived and we set off yesterday.

Highlights so far have been 2 emergency crashes (being distracted by the Ship's cat both times) and accidentally turning off thrusters in frameshift.

It turns out frameshift is not controlled by the FSD as I imagined.

1,000 ly out, just another 23 sessions to go!

Good luck out there ethelred, just keep that cat away from the self destruct button!

P.S. so what actually happens if you turn off thrusters in frameshift?
