Finally after propping up the bar in Galileo for the past couple of months my newly minted Explore-a-hauler has arrived and we set off yesterday.

Highlights so far have been 2 emergency crashes (being distracted by the Ship's cat both times) and accidentally turning off thrusters in frameshift.

It turns out frameshift is not controlled by the FSD as I imagined.

1,000 ly out, just another 23 sessions to go!

Good luck CMDR, and yes, you need your thrusters and FSD for supercruise - I think all long distance explorers learn that lesson the same way :)

I must be a slow learner, because I've had to learn that lesson twice!

Once turning off thrusters to "reduce heat", the second time I tried repairing the thrusters while in frame shift! Oops!

I know i wanted to start my run today, but unfortunately i can´t. So i will have to delay my start. Don´t know when i will have the time do make it, but hoping for a trip in the start of July.

Well, if our ships are using the Alcubierre Drive (which has been mentioned somewhere else), we are stationary while space is being moved around us. If that motion is only possible in a forward direction, we would still need the thrusters to pitch and roll our ships, so we could change the direction of travel in SC.

(PS. I don't claim to actually understand any of this ;))

I don't understand any of it either, but apparently this one does: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=106861

A small quote of chapter 1: "First things first: the FSD is *not* an Alcubierre Drive."

Again, I am just a racer... I have no understanding of these things, but it is interesting reading about it ;)

The Frame Shift Drive is not the Alcubierre drive. Otherwise it'd be called the Alcubierre Drive. But it isn't. It's called a Frame Shift Drive. It shifts frames, not Alcubierres :)

Indeed :D

he is right you know.png

What's an Alcubierre anyway?
How much do they sell for on the Commodities Market?
Would they make my ship any faster?

Thanks for the link. Very interesting. Hadn't seen that before.

Also thanks for realigning my distorted view of our favourite alternate reality :D

Looks like the galaxy has been fixed, so I will be taking a jaunt to Sag A* tomorrow. To avoid any administrative issues, as I technically started my last entry and aborted, here is my new entry to race

CMDR Rusticolus
Hauler
Running Bare

I'll be heading to Galileo soon and will be found in the bar till I launch tomorrow :)

EDIT: nearly forgot, I have my in-flight entertainment sorted :D

Well, looks like the Diamondback Scout Cookies has safely reached its final resting place at Galileo, Moon, Sol, right next to the hangars holding the Sidewinder Undesided and the Orca Orcan o' Whoop-Asp today. The new station attendant seems to be getting used to his job quite well, he's giving me the same look his predecessor did when I returned from Sadge the first time.

...though no one at Sadge actually wanted any Girl Diamondback Scout Cookies.
Looks I'm going to have to wait for 1.4 to see if there are any ships with worse jump range than an Orca or worse refuel times than the Scout.

Welcome home CMDR - see you at the bar if you are hanging around Galileo.

Good news I think for those CMDRs making a run this weekend. :)

I didn't get to play last night, so I'm still in the same place in the core - I jst had a check of the GalMap performance and it appears to be better than it's EVER been.

1) Magic numbers still plot in about 1 second.
2) Distances greater than 990LY appear to always plot really quickly, within normally within 5 seconds for me but always within 10-15 seconds.
3) Other distances vary, sometimes it still hangs up at 98-99% for at least a minute (I didn't bother waiting longer than that).

It's possible that the 990+ distances are still related to the magic number stuff, but I could never plot those quickly before, so hopefully it'll work for everyone and there will be no need for magic numbers!

It's also possible to select another star easily it a plot is stuck at 98%, so you're no longer trapped with the slow plot.

Fly Safe CMDRs! And good luck to you all. :)

Thanks for the update, this was my only concern so fingers crossed the map is working well for everyone :)

Safe? This is the Buckyball - I plan to fly HOT! :D

Oohhhh, that sounds very shiny indeed! Maybe someone can continue the tradition of beating my time just as I finish the video about it... :D
