E3 2015 speculations for Elite

What happened to Planetary landings and walking around? It feels like the people who funded the kickstarter have long been forgotten. The game lacks content, it needs life and stuff to do that has meaning. I am disappointed in the direction that the game is heading and certainly what is coming out at present has absolutely zero connection to Elite or the kickstarter.

We'll still get those things but it takes time and money to develop. Frontier needs funding to make that stuff you know. I think CQC belongs in Elite and Powerplay too (needs improvement). All that can be improved.

Why can't Frontier be a little more honest about the roadmap, I get they want to make big announcements but in reality they are just getting peoples hackles up.

We don't get a roadmap, because development priorities change.

Since we're speculating, i think they will announce a brand new (non elite related) game at E3.
They hinted as much, and the cash influx from ED makes it possible to broaden their catalogue.

That's the new Coaster Park Tycoon game.

Hi Guys,

Let me add to the speculations here just becasue I know David love reading them. Just for fan I read bunch of staf and connected few dots and here is what I think (hope for). The first paid expansion will be to get out of your seat, walk around your ship, maybe do some EVA, board other people ships, get walk around the stations and land on small objects like asteroids and and walk around them. No planetray landing. But never mind, if I'm at last half right this will expand hugely the game play area and add whole anoter depth and porsibilities to it. The each station is a quite big city on its own...

My first comment on this sort of suggestion is, "...and do what?"

Unless you can actually do something resulting in interesting/beneficial gameplay experience then surely it will quickly lose its novelty? ie: Yes by all means walk around a space station, but after ten minutes you'll still be doing it because?

We can speculate still a few months before to know the next major expansions. David said. After all, the speculation is one of the main characteristics of these enjoyable forums

Very much this ^. The game is pretty but at the moment it's also pretty empty. I really wish Frontier would stop for a minute and look at what they have and how it could be improved. Sort the missions out for a start. Frontier (Elite 2) had better missions and that game is ancient! Give explorers something to explore for, make it interesting and engaging and for god sakes sort out the double scanning! Maybe if Frontier fixed the bugs and gave us a full and angaging PC game people would care a lot less about what the Xboners are getting.

It's not just about broadening their catalogue, it's about spreading risk. Frontier are moving from being a software consultancy firm - producing 3rd party titles - to developing and self-publishing games themselves. Relying solely on a single income stream would be short-sighted at best. Frontier have a lot of expertise in rollercoaster games, so it makes perfect sense for them to develop their own game in that genre. Profit from that will go into development of future games, including going back into ED.

Exactly. I was hoping for bartering, picking up personal missions, meeting tier twos etc.

I was hoping they'd show something new for the PC and Mac players. Like a new ship or something that we'll get in the near future.

What are you smoking, they've been working on the Planetary Expansion for months now. It will come out first by the end of this year or early next year. Ambulation (walking around) will be after that.

Really? Cos I've not seen any confirmation of which element would be next, nor a timeline. Can you link me to where you've gotten that info?

Yep... I really hoped Powerplay would give deeper/tiered missions, but alas no.

We certainly do need general space (flight) made more interesting - ie: Just random things happening and things to encounter, and we definately need more to witness and discover and encounter while exploring. I've been pleading and hoping for this for basically six months - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=95448

Just caught up with this CQC thing. Interesting.

So the XBox One players actually get the "Dangerous" part of Elite, all the while we've been playing the Space Grinder Tycoon. :D

Honestly, the latest bullshot is nice to watch, but if the arena combat thing does come to PC, it might be the only thing that brings me back to the game anytime soon.

It's basically everything good about the game, the best parts, all in one dedicated mode, without all the time-sinks and grinding.

No, he just raising money for the project, and we all know console users have an attention span of a fart in a bubble bath...

No, we don't "all" know that. That's just your incredibly narrow stereotype, usually referred to as "PC master race syndrome".

Well I would not say that. It is a bit early and this is a mere speculation but you can expect loosing your ship in the arena being cheap to repair compared to what happens currently in war zones. So I won't call it Dangerous. It is exactly the contrary as you may end up loosing your ship but not credits.
Anyway I don't mind: the cost of PvP is currently so high that it had to be addressed in my opinion.

Fair point. I'm wondering if it might be like a career mode that arcade car racing games have? If you win, there's big prize money to offset costs of competing?

I could not tell but that could be nice. I also hope we will have some gambling involved. ED could become one of the first game with people getting fiend for gambling scam, and pirates could start a new life: threatening participants to ensure they don't win next game :D

I don't remember FE2's missions being any better individually than those we have at the moment. Take a apckage from point A to point B, take passengers from point A to point B. Go to system X and assassinate person Y (okay, you did follow those people through hyperspace, and that would be a neat addition and give a good sue for Wake Scanners), photograph this facility, destory this facility.

Aside from the fact that some TYPES of missions are not currently in ED, they were much the same cookie cutter scripted stuff that we have now, right...?

The issue is one of trust and the breaking of. We had a vague roadmap of: Full Release then expansions for the PC. The expansions first off were walking around and planetary landings. Now what did we get, well the first few expansions were stuff that should have been in the game from the start. Suddenly out of nowhere we got Community Goals and then even more bizarrely and out of left field Powerplay popped up. Now we find some form of Call of duty in space shoot 'em up thing is being released. What happened to Planetary landings and walking around? Why can't Frontier be a little more honest about the roadmap, I get they want to make big announcements but in reality they are just getting peoples hackles up. Don't forget though, the expansions we've had so far is free content. It might not be the free content we were hoping for (stuff that's part of the low-hanging fruit on the DDA-stuff). The other content, walking around ships, planetary landings etc were ALWAYS paid for content. They're two completely different branches of expansion. One is expanding the core game, one is additional paid-for features.

Hi,

I know that E3 2015 has only just started, but what if the announcement of Elite GQG on the Xbox is the only thing to come out of E3

Are others expecting more news on forth coming features/gameplay for the PC, or do you think that was the biggie?

I don't know for sure but going on Keresh's excitement on the recent Twitch video it looks like there will be more. Hard to tell though.

They should give PC and Mac players something new to look foward to. Like the Federal Corvette or Imperial Cutter. Cause we won't get CQC till the holidays (November, December).

It is hard to expect even him to go SQEEEEEEEEEEE about a feature on a different platform that we will not get to play for 6 months. So I have hope, but not necessarily expectation. However, the stuff I want them to do (which is largely to 'complete' the core game and fix the bugs) is never going to be announced at a show like this. So if there is an announcement there will be bad news (not doing that core stuff) to go with the good news (if, indeed, the feature is good news - the last several have not been for me).

Could be he's just happy to be there.
