The Planetary landing and planetside missions discussion Thread

"Fix bugs, don't make more content".

Planetary landing is not content lol. Planetary landing is fluff, just like flying in space is fluff. What you can do while landign in the planet or flying in space is the content.

Get this on your thick heads, because there is a disturbing lack of mechanics and gameplay on space, if you think that on top adding a new void framework would add anything to the game you are delusional.

Sorry, but seeing this did just .. made me laugh ..

Sage words, Winston :D .. + rep by way of apology.

Of course, what we really want, is a full fix of all bugs AND more content ..

I'm trying to imply that you DON'T pay much attention to what has been said about a game so early in development.

Only this was for a Kickstarter - and what they say is the only thing you have to go on at that point. They sketch out their hope and you make a judgement on whether to support or not. So yes - I agree it's good advice to maintain some perspective on developer blurbs or publicity material in general. But it works in both directions.

I know that the Kickstarter campaign was surrounded with all the caveats that are clearly stated on every Kickstarter. The DDF wasn't a series of promises. And I can also maintain perspective on those who are accusing Frontier of criminal behaviour, invoking hyperbole and raging indignation.

What I'm saying is it isn't done yet. They said from the very beginning that it wouldn't be done yet. And so I'm disagreeing with those who have already decided that certain features have definitely been cut. Like I said, I'm going to wait and see.

Lying implies intent. I love you Alien, but I must humbly disagree with you here. I think they sincerely intended, when they started out, to deliver on the things in the DDF archive and build this living, breathing universe.

But something went wrong somewhere. Maybe they just couldn't? Maybe they need a bigger team? More experienced developers? Or maybe the engine they are using just can't manage it?

For whatever reason, those plans do seem to have been abandoned. I agree with you there. We need them to be honest about it if that's the case, and to be forthcoming and tell us. I'm REALLY tempted to ask a moderator to move this thread over here.
I welcome disagreement, that is what fuels debate and drives progress.

would rather get all the bugs fixed first then more content.

Of course yes, though I suspect they go hand in hand ..
new content adds bugs .. and it's a big huge universe,
I guess they have to take fixes, one at a time, and in order of severity.

Plus, I'm not arguing with a fuel rat .. what if I need rescue one day

It was January 2013 the kickstarter ended, so that's two and a half years to develop the expansions. In all that time they've said nothing about the expansions, it's us lot on here that keep going on about them. I'd love nothing more than for Michael to post anywhere on this forum, that the expansions will happen. I want to be proven wrong.

And I'm sorry but Frontier have lied to us. It's not a baseless accusation, it's a fact. They have also cut features from the game, see the DDF archive, those were Frontier's own proposals, and where are those features now?

Honestly, what do you mean, 'you want to be proven wrong'? You generally have to prove something is the way you say it is first before anyone else is required to refute you. Are you saying that you've decided those features have been cut and you're not going to change your mind until they tell you different? If so, go ahead. I'm really not sure you're going about getting more info the right way.

I'd like to see the rest of the DDA implemented first (IE finish the game to somewhere close to the original spec) before we see the paid for content like planetary landings.
Every time I go back and read that stuff I get all excited that some day we might have that game.

Planetary landing is useless if we don't have the FPS/walking around bit in place first.I don't care about landing on a planet surface if I'm stuck in my ship anyway.

I'd rather be able to fly and land anywhere on a planet than walk around. The FPS gameplay will enhance that stuff.

OK, if you think you know a better way of getting info, be my guest and get said info, I don't think you can ... prove me wrong :)

Planetary landings are content. The same as adding new station types, details like volcanoes, auroras, comets, people milling around stations, etc. Content means 'stuff'. A DLC pack for BF4 or whatever is new content, but the gameplay doesn't actually change.

I think you just mean 'things to do', and you're right. Do planetary landings necessarily give you a reason for going somewhere? No.

PowerPlay is a good framework but I want something more that encourages me to group up with a sizeable amount of other players and make a claim on the galaxy instead of this solo-proxy system that is PP.

Right, we need planetary landings.[/QUOTE]
Actually what we need is a truck load of bug fix's before any attempt is made for planetary landings, but I have to agree- planetary landings would be awesome!
