ED XBO Beta available to XBox One Preview today

I downloaded the free trial what a joke you can only do the training missions you cant actually play the game and try it out. Unless that was a bug and you can.

I cant play the game with just a controller like the xbox controller. I need my joystick and keyboard.

And of course loadtime sucks compared to my computer

That's the same as the PC and alpha. Those missions are fun, and with the new AI should be a challenge.

E: D is pay to play on XBoxOne, but not on PC?

Am I the only one seeing a roadmap revealed here?

Why would anyone be happy to pay a monthly fee to play E: D on XBox, when it's subscription free on PC?

Please enlighten me. :)

Fly safe

Waht do you mean pay-to-play?

All I can see is they've introduced it under the "Game Preview", a.k.a. Early Access, in other words not finished game, so cheaper. That clearly makes a mockery of the fact they sold in on PC as a finished fullipriced title, instead of say on Steam's Early Access program, given the game is clearly far from content complete and every update makes major changes to gameplay and introduces new bugs we have to waste time testing.

Look at 0:45 in the CQC video, at the left panel: "SHIP NAME" - be nice if that wasn't just placeholder for "F63 Condor", wouldn't it?

Can you put this into context, please, for us dumb people?

Not being ironic. I don't have an XboxOne myself, but I was lead to understand that you have to pay a monthly subscription fee to play online on the XboxOne, no?

Silly sometimes, but never dumb. :)

I'm still confused.

Customers paying Microsoft to use XBox One, or customers paying FD to play Elite?

[edit]...

GD, you're now quoting yourself, and calling yourself by different names. Take your meds, man... quick!

ARGH... Where are they... :)

Ok, so xboxers are paying MS monthly to play E: D, while pc'ers do not? Not a problem/conundrum?

I see. I'm not exactlt up on how the new XBox Live service works, so I'd have to look it up...

But all I know right now is that this accurately reflects how I feel about Frontier:

So maybe it's a good time to go cool off before saying anything else.

Unless this forum's software does things standard forum software can't (it is, as far as I can tell, custom forum software), it's near impossible for a moderator or an admin to un-merge a thread. They'd have to know every post from the previous thread before it got merged, and then know who is replying to the other thread after it got merged.

It'd be easier to start a new thread on pay-to-play and ask them NOT to merge it ... doesn't mean they won't.

Thanks A. Will try again.

Ah, okay.

Not a problem or conundrum from my perspective. I pay the power company monthly to run my PC to play ED (and other stuff), an ISP monthly to give me ADSL to play ED (and other stuff), etc.

If I had some kind of lease agreement on hardware, I'd be paying them monthly for the PC itself to play ED (and other stuff), etc.

If I had XBO and online-whatever-it-is, sounds like I'd be paying MS monthly to play ED (and other stuff).

None of that seems to have anything to do with the developer/publisher of ED...

My understanding is that you cannot share instances between PC/Mac and the console version.

Well that's depressing. I was hoping that as it was on the Early Access Xbox program thing, that Frontier would be allowed to update often, rather than having to go through CERT every time. Having it be cross play would be so good :(

Not sure what the new rules for Xbox are regarding such games compared to the old rigid 360 "penalty fees for updates". Given how "online everything" these new consoles have struggled to be, it should be far more flexible now.

However, I don't think that's the reason that a cross-play model has not been implemented. I'm not sure what the reason is though, because I thought it would be inclusive. Perhaps the p2p netcode is the reason thay Xbox players cannot be share PC/Mac seesions? Because they will use a different online system that Microsoft provides for the Xbox.

It makes the whole online nature of this game even more pointless if the entire player base cannot interact. Yet having said that, the 32 player limit also makes it no as big a deal anyway, since we PC/Mac players can't simultansously play with all of our own playerbase anyway, and as such this is not an MMO like everyone keeps misunderstaning.
