The Planetary landing and planetside missions discussion Thread

When the creations are as bland and unoriginal (IMHO) as Powerplay and especially CQC (really, deathmatch, team deathmatch and CTF - that's what their "creativity" came up with?) then it's a comment not entirely without merit.
I've read a lot of comments stating that CQC is pointless and dumb but it seems like a really sensible idea to me. So all those people that just fly around looking for players to kill will have a nice easy way to find people to fight who want to fight in an easier way than just flying around looking for someone to kill. So those people won't be just killing people in open for the sake of it, or at least a fair number of them won't. Thus those people complaining about people just killing them for no reason now have something that will limit this behaviour so it looks to me like CQC is a great idea even though I doubt I'll use it. Perhaps this has been commented on but I haven't read it anywhere yet.

Frontier cant win ...

If they say we are getting this and that, and they dont deliver = Forum rage
If they dont say anything = Forum rage
If they deliever what said they would , but not to everyone's expectation = Forum rage

Basically if you make a game like this and involve the community in it at a early stage, at some point you will get forum rage ..

Damned if they do .. Damned if they dont ..

I know how they can win, delete the forums :)

People who want open PvP are not at all the same crowd that uses CQC.

Dude. I heard the interview taking place. My face is on the interview page! LOL
It's amazing how things get misquoted. :p

Its amazing how incompetent you people are. Do you realise the damage your statement can cause? Either officially deny the facts in the interview or don't. But what you are doing right now is doing more harm than good.

If I actually worked for Frontier, I would respond to that.

I am just a fan like everyone else here, I am just level headed enough to understand that the internet is full of half truths.

Do you mean about the error of saying 3rd person walking around? That's actually been corrected in the article.

The 3rd person thing WAS misquoted:

"This piece originally said that "third-person walk-around-the-ship mode" was one of the upcoming features. This was a mistake by the author, who is suffering from E3-induced psychosis. No point-of-view was specified and what we know of the walk-around-the-ship mode remains consistent with the descriptions in the Elite: Dangerous design discussion forum. The piece has been updated and we regret the error."

So yeah, saying that things get misquoted is pretty damn accurate.

I am pro plant landings , but there must be a point to doing so. like mining, advanced scanning for explores, small bases built by players , variety of land scapes etc

The 3rd person stuff has been corrected in the interview hours ago.

Also I was reacting to this statement:

Funny. I've been hanging around with David for the last few days, I didn't hear him confirm any of this? :p

Which implies nothing in the article was actually confirmed by braben.

So was that an error by the journalist or something that was said by mistake?
Take your time to think about that answer. I was there, I know the truth...

It was an error by the journalist, as he admitted shortly after he published the piece.

Apologies—I'd have to go pull my audio recording to check exactly what David said, but I don't believe he said first or third or anything specific other than walking-around-the-ship mode. I had to write that piece up literally crammed onto the edge of a sofa in Frontier's E3 meeting room while the clock ticked down to my next meeting, and E3 has me a little loopy. I'll edit the article real quick.Edit - I've changed the piece to remove "third-person," since David didn't specify a POV.
Again, sorry, guys—it's E3 and my brain is oatmeal.

That is what he said 14hours ago.

Well... honestly, I'm mostly happy because of 'he re-confirmed that planetary landings were coming'. So the 1st person/3rd person thing isn't that big of a deal to me?
