Exactly my thoughts, too.
I never understood the notion of having planetary landings & FP walkabouts in this game.
It'll only squander dev ressources when they haven't even found the time to implement a "Sell All" button yet.
I do.
And I think its been mentioned many times that a totally separate team are working on Planetary landings and walking around stations. Do you really think its the same team working on the core game that are working on the walking avatars and planetary landings?
I have been on the negativity train for a long time and even I'm getting annoyed with it now. From this point forward I am going to be nothing but positive and give everyone at Frontier more credit than I have up until now.
It appears that Braben's vision for the game is huge. Too huge to deliver all at once. The downside is constant criticism at every little pint size feature they push out. Many of which can evolve and change if they don't work.
Powerplay may seem significant now but 12 months from now after a load more stuff has gone in - probably will just be a tiny backdrop among a multitude of features and opportunities for players.
I don't think this. The expansions, ok, beta test them on the PC, I am ok with that, but then release the content on all platforms at the same time, no more of this "Platform gets this before that other platform" stuff ... that only serves to divide the community, and we should be one community.Planetary landings and ship walking to come to PC first. I should jolly well think so too!! If they don't, then my last bit of faith in FD and ED will have died.
It seems that the real argument being made there is: "I don't want the devs to 'waste time' on things I'm not interested in." Fair enough. So I'm adding my voice to those who are looking forward to this immensely.

1. Solo and Open are still together
2. No Man's Sky comes out(No planetary landings yet)
3. After a long while SC comes out(No planetary landings yet)
4. Planetary landings, too bad nobody is around to actually land on stuff.
5. Solo and Open are still together
News cycle, product cycle and related client base attention focus. I.e. marketing. There is a balance to be had between continue the marketing and sales of the vanilla product that is still selling well versus the timing of initiation of a campaign for a fully fledged expansion too early.
Also, given FDEV marketing history it seems there is also an element of only telling about what can actually be delivered or is ready to be delivered.
Michael's next book will be called Elite: Therapy.

Nice review Granite, criticisms included.
nedeaalex - you know there is a thread where you can discuss open vs solo? No need to disguise it as a comment about when the next planned expansions will be.
I remember playing X-Wing and Tie Fighter when they first came out. For space combat they had the best missions ever. Freespace 1&2 came close.- The X-Wing and Tie-fighter games featured numerous npc only military and civilian ships that created a believable and immersive background for the player. ED needs this too.
While I welcome DB's comments, in the back of my mind I have to ask; how much reliability can I really place on them?
Much of the discord has been caused by the unequivocal separation from what was sold -Kickstarter/Dev Diaries/Etc- and what we currently have. People have been carrying FD for a long time with comments like 'wait until release'...hopes that never came true. These situations have been a joke on this forum since middle Beta, as anyone who's been here long enough will remember. 'Big Launch Surprise' turned out to be the BGS, that still doesn't work, etc, etc. Its no wonder people's faith has taken a hit.
If this is what it takes for us to end up with the ED we dreamed about, then I'm fine with that. But no comments from FD combined with past updates, suggest a different direction for the game. FD is entirely to blame for this discontent by failing to communicate properly, exaggerated marketting, plain old bullshot.
I'm still behind them tho and complaints/criticism is an important part of development. And I'm sure they're mature enough not to take internet ramble personally.

However, in those games you were part of a large NPC fleet. You were in a squad of that fleet that had primary, secondary and bonus objectives that gained you fleet progression points used for medals and promotion.
I cannot see how FD could fit something similar into ED as the latter is basically about a lone pilot having to trade etc to make money. Providing set piece battles as in X-Wing between Powerplay factions feels like an idea too far.
It would be great though!
Sitting at an open air starport on Merlin watching the ringed gas giant dipping below the horizon is sufficient reason as to why planetary landings need to be there for me. The lack of a Stardreamer is a pity though (but that is a sacrifice required for multiplayer).
As for moving around ships/space stations: I was pretty cynical about this but a combination of reading the books and some of the mooted features (boarding parties, infestations, etc) convinces me otherwise. What would be cool if you could EVA to a derelict ship and explore that.
Sell All? Try loading up a Panther clipper with 500 tons of robots and selling them in Sol![]()
