The problem is, it simply is not true. You can get the bigger ships with combat alone. The income is there. On the other side, you don't need an Anaconda or even a Python for combat and there is no set end game. The end game is what you want it to be. Fully kitting out an Eagle for combat might be my end game or it might be fitting out a Conda for mining. It is whatever you want it to be and you can get there however you want, more so now than ever.

There are missions that pay out just shy of 2 million when you are Elite ranked and they are typically for wanted ships in a higher quantity. Do these in a system thats controlled by a power that has bonuses to bounties and suddenly you a rolling in credits.

Heh first you say "its not true" and then you continue there's no "set endgame" and that you don't "NEED" an Anaconda to fight.

Never had the realization that games are not about NEED? And the end game has been very clearly defined by FD: get to ELITE rank in something or everything and "blaze your own trail in the most awesome ships" we've put together for you. Need? where did that ever come in. You should just be able to use any combat ship and make money. The more expensive the combat ship, the more money you should make from it. Sure is the same way with trading ships.

Not everyone wants to use their big ships to shoot ai around asteroids and not everyone plays to grind cash out.

I play as a pirate primarily and in 1.2 most of the time I was lucky to break even which was fine because I was having fun. Since the cargo drop nerf, repair and wear and tear costs bugs in 1.3 it's pointless to pirate in my asp as I wouldn't be close to breaking even. The repair costs for every interdiction along with wear and tear, ammo and any damage I might suffer from combat would be much more than even 20t of palladium.

I could trade in my conda but it would be even more work due to wear and tear and if I get interdicted and lose shields I'll have massive repair costs and have to sit in the station for 10 mins minimum waiting for my shields to recharge.

Everything about 1.3 is broken to me so I'm simply not playing until it gets fixed.

These are bugs, not intended game mechanics. Just because fd put mud on your plate and you like the taste of it it doesn't mean everyone else is going to eat the same meal.

Yeah by the sounds of it Pirating has been gimped, and that sucks. But you can still use an Anaconda to interdict bounties and make money. It's just when you have 4-5 people shooting you at once that it comes a bit... poorly, and that mostly happens on CZ's.

I have scores of millions in ready, liquid cash. My primary ship used is an Adder, followed by an exploration Cobra, and a T6 for trading locally. I have tried the Asp, both Diamondbacks, and the Vulture. Nice ships, but I enjoy smaller ship operations. My costs are far lower. I make money, not lose it to high operating and replacement costs, by keeping things small.

Someday, I might get a Vulture for combat, should the Power Play get out of hand in my fringe area. The Asp is too vulnerable.

I hear what you're saying, but I don't know what you're driving at with this? Do you mean to say that others should also focus on enjoying smaller ships? Or do you feel everybody should be able to choose and be successful in whatever ship they choose?

To get to Tycoon trading rank, you need to earn 385 million. It'll take you ages if you stick to small ships.

There seems to be this sentiment that if you managed to grind up to an expensive ship, you should have unlimited funds to overpay for repairs totally beyond what the insurance for a completely new one would be. Not to mention that the repairs should apparently outweigh any money you could earn on bounties...

I managed to make stupid amounts of cash trading in an Anaconda and T-9.

I managed to grind up to an expensive ship, in fact several of them. As you point out, you virtually have to get into a large ship if you want to get to Tycoon or Elite Trader.

As I saw 1.3 coming together I realized that as in previous release cycles it just made sense to cash out and go to ground to see how things developed. I dabbled in the beta a bit pre-release and decided that it would be a good time to just get out of Dodge and go exploring for a while as it looked like the bubble was going to be quite chaotic for some time to come.

I'm currently about 6k LY out and enjoying some sight seeing in an appropriately configured Asp with all my heavy iron parked and safely stowed. Reading the forums to try and get a feeling for what's going on isn't the same as being there and experiencing the problems first-hand, but from trying to stay current on the forums it's almost impossible to figure out what's working and what's not. One post claims repair costs are crazy, then another says it's been fixed, and then another says no it's not. Same story with rank progressions. Reading about Power Play only adds more conflicting and confusing information.

Out here in the outback, double detailed scans are still occurring, problems with first discovered tags have popped up, FD says no big issue, so even exploration isn't problem free.

The biggest problem I have is actually trying to figure out what's working and what isn't.

Maybe by the time i get to Sag A* I may just decide to keep going to the opposite side and never come back...

I'll be waiting for at least one clear and unambiguous indication that something worth doing is actually working before turning around, so I doubt I'll be home anytime soon.

It's probably already been addressed a thousand times, both in this thread and in others, but I'd like to make sure that you guys at FD are working to fix the RES wanted ship rank bug, and in fact just enemy ship ranks in general, or some workable alternative that still allows bounty hunters to make a decent amount of money. Would hate to see trading left as the only viable means of turning a profit.

Nice post. I just landed this morning after a Sag A roundtrip that began, pre Powerplay, with a Buckyball run, 22 days ago. I can tell you (having sold 22 million credits worth of exploration data) that Universal Cartographics are still in business. I can also tell you that the exploration CG at Lembava is ticking along nicely and that I'm currently due a further 15 million from a top 5% bonus payout. I can confirm that Jameson memorial still has a good supply of shields having hastily equipt one following a harrowing NPC interdiction and attack mere seconds after my arrival at the fringes of occupied space. Other than that, I've yet to discover what effect the rise of powers within the galaxy has had on the political landscape since my departure but ... I'm looking forward to finding out. Good luck in your travels and I hope you will find a reason to return to us in the not too distant future.

O7 commander!

Yes, that would be great. Makes buying single player games the better buy every time. If patches are worse than the previous set of bugs, you just re-install and avoid the patches.

Ah yes, memories of Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific. I installed the game up to version 1.4. Then I read all the v1.5 bug reports and major issues with that 'U-boat Missions' add-on, took the bonus 1.5 add-on disc and threw it in the bin - sticking with 1.4, and playing it even these days when I can occasionally drag myself out of Elite.

Still staring at this for ages... what can take so long?

still there:

just returned from the trip that was started after 1.3.05. got 3 or 4 such "0 cr." messages on selling exploration data.

They obviously have not fixed the bug which created the supposed Graphic only issue then.

Also why all the whining about the repair costs, Michael has already stated that they moved to server based calculations or some such with 1.3 and it has unexpected results that they are still attempting to trace.
They thought they had it fixed but had not so are still looking, that was after 1.3.0.4 and nothing has changed with 1.3.0.5

Great fine all well and good,
.
... BUT ... FIX THE COMMS.
.
All the rest is nice, but people are still having issues with one of the most important features of the game,
the ability to share and communicate with friends. It's pretty boring just grinding for that next upgrade without someone to work with as you track down a warlord or pirate in a ship just a bit too big for either of you to tackle on their own.
Release 1.2 had the comms sorted out! What have you broken? Sort it out pronto!

... Pleeeeeease !

Power for the cause, each big update has broken stuff that worked perfectly fine before hand, updates released with bugs found in Beta Testing included
then two weeks or so of hotfixes and patches to get back to working and stable, hopefully.

  • For very high faction reputations, changed decay to apply only to major factions instead of only minor factions

Repost from another thread:

Lack of info is the most frustrating and irritating in this dacay mechanic. We know how merits in PowerPlay decay and when, but there is very little info about reputation decay. I hope Michael or Edward or anyone from FD can answer a few questions below. It will help :)

rep_decay.png

1. When decay stops? Pls, see image above - a) at exact Friendly level, b) somewhere in between friendly and allied, c) at almost allied level

2. How much time does it take? Online and/or Offline? (it looks like it is online and offline)

3. Is it linear or faster to certain point and then slows down?

4. Can player slow it down or prevent it from happening somehow?

So...I've read some posts today and a few things really jumped at me as problems for people

Big ships too expensive to run in combat
Big ships not having missions to make combat or the mission worth while
Power play combat not paying enough 1 pp per kill regardless of ship size
Mining useless
Power play pointless for exploration
RES bounties nerfed

Why doesn't frontier utilize the current paths that people want to follow?

Big ships get big credit missions that only a big ship are allowed to take on as criteria such as going into the heart of enemy territory?

Mining in a enemy site where minerals are specific to area give more credits (like rares) plus power play points?

Exploration gives more credits when you go through enemy sites and power play points for it?

Combat power play points increase when you go further from your main base and so do the credits per power play point?

Bounties for taking out security in RES controlled by the enemy so you get bounty credits plus power play points

Or something similar but basically utilizes the profession people have chosen for Elite, pirates um not sure :)

I've come back from a 2 week vacation. I take it all my minor faction reps are also wrecked now and not just my three major ones?

How far does rep drop anyways? I did something (killed a pirate) and got a blue triangle up on empire, but still friendly. I thought we only dropped to barely not allied anymore?

Ive' always believed single player games were better anyways...
