went afk, all modules disabled, stuck in res with oxygen running out

Pessimists, naysayers and know-it-alls: begone!

To OP: Where are you? Are you interested in at least giving a small ounce of hope in still saving the ship? This will be a tough one, but it's better than just giving up.
I find your lack of smug Pessimism disturbing. But if you really pull this stunt, i will give standing ovation.

That helps me in that once I enter a station, I fly by the star really close on my way to my destination. During this time period I fill up a good portion of my fuel tank being 8 tons.

Why the hell is this game so little documented? There are so many small ways you can die it's just ridiculous. Once you buy the game you're thrown into a random station with no tutorial. The actual tutorial doesn't explain crap.

You honestly need a written manual that tells you every possible way you can die in the game while you are AFK?

If you hadn't been AFK you would have seen what happened. Instead you are blaming the game because you couldn't be bothered to exit to the game menu.

Sure it's frustrating but you were in a RES. Would you have complained if you'd returned to the insurance screen after being blown up by pirates?

Easy there, easy....

There is no cold, there's no asphyxiation, there's no fear.... It's only a nightmare... Close your eyes slowly....

Open your eyes again... See? You are back in your comfortable, warmy sidewinder... And the air tastes so sweet... All has been a bad dream.

I went afk after entering a high intensity RES with my Fer-De-Lance that has no cargo racks. It was an very empty RES. I killed 1-2 wanted small fries then stopped my engines and went afk. When I came back I saw that all my modules were disabled and oxygen was running out. I just entered the system and thus do not have a hostile reputation with an of the factions nor do I have any sort of bounty. After trying to power off then on modules, shutting down nonessential modules, retracting weapons, logging out then back in, I am stuck at the spot unable to move with 0:19 seconds of oxygen left. I am aware that in rare cases pirates will attack you regardless of whether you have cargo or not but the thing is I have 100% in hull and modules with no red contacts on radar. Not even security vessels.

I can't pay the insurance cost because I just had enough to buy this FDL, lost a type 9 afking after press launch in a station a while ago (most unfortunate way to lose 80 million), and spent a ton of credits just to pay the 10x more expensive hull repair bill.

Can someone tell me what in the Milky Way happened to me? Is it my fault or not? I do not want to log in right now because I will suffocate in 19 seconds.

Just to clarify:
- You lost a Fer-de-Lance because you went away from the keyboard leaving the ship in a risky location
- You went to a high intensity RES in an expensive ship that you knew you could not cover the re-buy on
- You couldn't cover the re-buy because you lost 80 million on a Type 9 (presumably to tangibly lose 80M it was also not insurance covered)
- The Type 9 was destroyed while afk after launching in a station

Well I guess accidents happen....

A similar thing happen to me in RL this week...

I went to work the other day in my uninsured Car and as it was a hot day i thought i'd leave the engine and aircon running all day, the office carpark was full so i left it in the street, obviously this meant leaving the keys in the ignition and it unlocked, but what the heck could happen. Imagine my surprise at 5pm to come out and find it a burnt out shell as it had overheated but luckily the theives had already made off with all the valuables so that was a small consolation, that at least someone was getting use out of my laptop and camera.

Luckily Sidewinder Vehicle Hire lent me a car to get home, they did joke with me when i gave them my name and said "You again!!" But they clearly respect me as they have put a picture of me at the top of their ID'ten'T Customer board in the main reception.

Even the wife laughed when I read this out :)

Well, well people. Calm down.
It's at least really funny to read or stands as a warning to newcomers.
If it's the truth, i give up.
If it's really the truth..... No it can't be!
Ps.:
This fuel rat thing sounds awesome. Nice immersive way to play the game.

I just read the first post of his earlier thread and well duh....I find it hard to believe people would make the same mistake twice.

Well that's quite lucky then. This guy didn't.

One AFK, one boost (I assume from the word launch) in station. Unless you count dying twice as being the same mistake then I think you are quite harsh.

Maybe instead of going AFK everywhere you could simply exit to the main menu if you don't intend on playing for a while.

Lol. This is awesome. The only way you could have screwed up more is shooting the cops, aiming at an asteroid and boosting, and then hitting ESC to get into the 'pause' menu.

No more chastising please. I think we'd had enough thanks :)

Anyone wanting to help the OP please communicate via PM, I'm going to retire this thread now. I myself have left quite a few dents in more than one Coriolis.

Thank you for participating.
